@Rebecca - Yes, we are powerful beyond measure, and that CAN be scary - when we really think about what we are capable of!

@Jenny - Jenny, I'm glad you enjoyed this. The domino effect is so true, we can pass on good or bad. And being confident is part of that also. It can be hard for me to overcome the idea of me being special too. But I am, and you are too! Remember that always...

This is so true, I can admit that I think it may be part of my problem in being confident. How am I special? Do I deserve to be secure in who I am when so many others are not? It's a hard thing for me to overcome, but I think I am working on it, at least I hope I am.

When I began reading the post, I disagreed with it. I was afraid of being inadequate and not of being too powerful. I have never thought myself as powerful. As I continued reading it started to strike a chord with me and I started to understand it better. To me it means that if I take control of myself and do the best I can, others will see it and follow with their own actions therefore creating a domino effect.

Wonderful post, thanks!

i've read this passage before by marianne williamson and i've never forgotten it. it resonated with me because she spoke precisely to the fear that resides inside of me, inside many of us. "we are powerful beyond measure and it is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us." when i read that i thought it to be right on the mark. very wise woman.

@Urban Panther - I love that point you make! When done for the right reasons, the "light" of others is both powerful and uplifting.

@Jennifer - Yes! We are all unique and special! And when we use the great gifts God has given to us to our fullest ability, we become a light for ourselves and for others! Thanks, Jennifer, you've said it so well...

@Davina - That's what is so powerful for me, the sharing and community - and the new ways we have at looking at something from so many different angles! And, I agree about what Urban Panther said - it really was a new way for looking at this for me too.

@Dave - Hey, cheerier -- that rings a bell!! You sound like my wife -- she's been extra "cheerful" (and letting me know it!) since my last post!

@Rachel - Your welcome.

Hi Lance. I've always loved this quote. Thanks for sharing it and creating the opportunity for us to share our insights. This brought out a lot of new ideas. I especially liked what Urban Panther said, "...I feel insecure, or at least uncomfortable, around people who don’t embrace the light inside themselves." I'd never considered that before.

Who are we not to shine??!! God made us all very unique and special with so many talents. When we work to use those for Him we will shine beyond what we could ever imagine! Isn't it great how that when we do shine we give others permission to do the same!

Thank you Lance for this reminder.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

Interestingly, I feel insecure, or at least uncomfortable, around people who don't embrace the light inside themselves. People who truly embrace their own light-- out of love and respect for their talents, not arrogance--are the most adept at making other people feel comfortable and secure.

@Glen - This is a great one! Now, I have to see Coach Carter - I've watched many of the inspirational sports movies that have been made, but never saw this one.

@Tara - Wow, what a great gift to give! It just looks so peaceful up in the sky in a balloon. I want to do that someday too!

@Robin - Your welcome!

@Stacey/CreateaBalance - That's the part that I really like - that it helps to shed some of the doubt, and encourages us to be great! And that sounds like an awesome way to live our life!

@Mark - Thanks!

@Rarestone - Our fears and doubts, too often, cast a shadow on the true potential we have. We all can be great, in our own unique way, if we just believe it!

@Tammy - I'm not sure it's an aging thing...I think, in a way, we all struggle at times to accept ourselves, and to be the best we can be. I think it's a journey for us to get to where we desire to be. And part of that process is accepting who we are and determining what it is that makes us complete. You are not alone.

@Ariel - Right, I don't think we can ever hear this message too much. It's so powerful if you let it really sink in.

Oh me...I just made a post today about accepting a compliment. This post does hit home. Acceptance of ourselves is required for us to be complete. If we are not complete then we cannot teach our children to be complete. I do sometimes struggle with this. I guess it is the aging thing. I don't know.

Thank you for the reminder today. I needed this. Hey...I am heading back over to StumbleIt in a bit. Maybe I can get somewhere today.

Lance, beautiful quote there. It certainly went to the core of my heart and to depth of my soul. It is so true, we can do so much more we just need to overcome our fears. And of course, encouraging posts like this one give us the strength and the knowledge to do so. Thank you for being an inspiration.
