This is a truly profound question that you were asked. Out of all the music you had ever heard, it may have been daunting to choose what you believed to be the most appropriate sondtrack for your life. I wonder if you ever considered the theme from the film, 2001: A Space Odyessey? You may get a kick out of this post from Daniel's Den where he details his top 10 movie theme songs of all time: http://danielbalc.wordpress.com/2008/11/18/my-top-ten-movie-theme-songs/

Robin, thank you so much for writing what you have here. It validates that doing this is the right thing for me to be doing. And, know also that your words continually lift me up and give me hope.

Wow, I love the "Anyway" video. The "perseverance" brought me to tears. I needed that today. It's truly amazing how one person (like you) being positive and up lifiting can turn another person's (mine) day around. I think that is one of the most powerful and wonderful truths on the planet. Thank you for being part of that truth!

Grace - That really is a feel-good song by Louis Armstrong isn't it! "Time in a Bottle" - bittersweet, maybe...time...it flys by so fast sometimes... Thanks for the addition here Grace.

What a great question. When I am feeling down, that Louis Armstrong song always picks me up. What about Time in a Bottle? Bittersweet, but right now that's where I am. G.

@Tammy - I love your addition - "You've Got a Friend" - that song says a lot - and does describe you very well Tammy! And, thanks for sharing the video you've made - what a very nice way to put to music events from your children's lives (and hey, I recognize that first song!!).

@Rummuser - Excellent choice - I just watched a video of it, and am reminded of what those words mean, thank you for sharing that here!

@Mitch - Steal away, this has been a ton of fun hearing what people have chosen!! And, thinking on a Sunday afternoon....yeah, I'm for skipping that too!

@Meleah - I did enjoy very much Meleah, thanks again for sharing these here - you've really put a lot of thought and time into these - and I believe they speak volumes for the passion you have in you.

@Kelly - I love that song -- "What a Wonderful World". The "Stand by Me" rendition I really liked because of the artists singing it -- U2 and Bruce Springsteen - a couple of my favorites. So, I checked out your (very extensive) list of music of your life! Wow - you've really got quite a list! And...we do have many of the same tastes - U2, Queen, Beatles, The Doors, KISS -- to name a few. Many excellent songs - and several new to me songs (especially the Australian-based bands). Anyway, Kelly, I think we could hang together and enjoy the same music very easily!

Okay, will try again. "What a wonderful world always makes me cry", I love it so much. And "Stand By Me" is an awesome song. I have many songs which define events and periods of my life. When I hear these songs I am immediately transported back in time and often when I think of the past or someone I once knew, a song will be associated with that person or that time.

I wrote about this 6 months ago in a post, titled http://she-power.com/2008/04/28/what-is-the-music-of-your-life/

Check it out. Tell me if we have any of the same tastes.

Man, what a great idea this is. I know I'm going to "steal" it and do something like it for my blog, and of course give you attribution for it. But I'm going to have to think about it some; I have no real idea what three songs would describe my life, so I might have to go a slightly different direction. Wow, thinking on a Sunday afternoon; that's not right!

I would have to say James Taylor and "You've Got a Friend." I love people and I feel as though I am a good listener.

Since I am on the bottom of the comment section and I am not looking for hits from something I posted long ago....here is a video that I made for Dylan's class after a field trip this past school year. I have another blog that I keep each year for his class that I share with the children. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n77XYHR8cBY. You can relate to this because you have children.

@MizFit - The rest IS still unwritten... I don't know that it's odd, but this is an interesting thought you've had about how the words to music affect us. And it really shows the deep meaning music can have for us. Thanks for sharing this here MizFit.

@Evita - Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed them Evita! Yes, music is powerful and can be also a very spiritual medium to "connect" us. Thanks for sharing that thought. And, if you do come up with a soundtrack that fits your life, please do share Evita!

@Monica - The "Stand by Me" song was the first one that came to mind for me. I love that song too, especially the version above by U2 and Bruce Springsteen. Bursting into song and dance Monica - sounds like an awesome idea - but why do I feel like I would hold back from doing this? Fear? Probably so - fear of not looking "normal" - and goes to show that I need to work on this... Mood - yes that does really play into the choices we make - thanks for sharing three of yours here. From your choices, I really get the belief you do live your life on your terms - and if that's right, that's an awesome thing...

Great idea, great songs. I love "Stand by Me." I've always been a fan of the "theme song" concept, probably because I'm an unabashedly big fan of musicals (I also think it'd be cool if people spontaneously burst into song and dance). My "theme song" really depends on my mood. The ones that spring to mind at the moment are...

EyeTV - "Just The Way It Is"
Tears For Fears - "Mad World"
James Taylor - "Fire and Rain"

Lance - those are such beautiful choices. I was familiar with the first two and I love them dearly too as they resonate greatly with me, but I have never heard of "Anyway" by Martina. It was so beautiful too!

What a great idea too, to see how music and songs represent us. I love that because music to me is such a spiritually transforming medium and I use it in my life daily. Hmmm, I wonder what songs I would pick...will have to reflect on that and perhaps one day I will share my soundtrack of life!
