@Brandi - This is such a wonderful story - and the first I'd heard of it when I saw this video. That this is in your own backyard - wow - even more powerful. So close to home! And a great example of true brotherhood. Thank you Brandi.

@Miruspeg - There is so much emotion in this video - tears can come easily. The words we heard - how powerful moving they were! And what a great thing you're doing, Peggy, at the school you help out at. Thank you for sharing part of your story, my friend...

@Kelly - This video does really open our hearts up. I found it to be a powerfully moving experience watching it (several times). Wow, you've said this so well, Kelly. Your writing here about changing lives - that is a gift to me - thank you for writing such heart-felt words.

@Mike - A great point Mike - sometimes we get so wrapped up in wins and losses - we lose sight of the bigger picture - camaraderie, working together, true sportsmanship, etc, etc. Thanks for sharing that thought.

Lance that power of an idea carried forward, great stuff. It's always surprising how sports become so competitive and really even destroying of many people. This video shows how sports are meant to be played, meant to impact others and the effects it can have on all involved regardless of that meaningless win that is usually so dominant.

Lance, I almost didn't watch this because I thought it was going to be some stereotypical football "Go, go, go. You can do it" clip. But wow, that was beautiful. Totally choked me up and set me in an open hearted mood for the day. I'm going to share this video around because everyone needs to see it. We don't have to do anything big to change someone's life, and we are all responsible for lifting our fellow human beings. It's not the job of the person next to you. It's all of our jobs. We don't have to aspire to be Gandhi, charity doesn't just involve money, and the best thing you can ever give someone is love, consideration and respect for their humanity. People who feel respected and included and valued do great things and want to be better than they were before. It's a simple truth, and it's within all of our power to give someone that acceptance and respect.

Thank you. This post was a gift.

I don't cry easily Lance but as I was watching this video tears were rolling down my face.
It must have been the words those people were speaking.
I am a great believer in the ripple effect.

I volunteer at a disadvantaged school one day a week and we believe in the slogan "Each one Teach one". The kids respect us and we respect them and slowly these kids learn right from wrong and walk tall when they go out into the world.

Thank you Lance for opening up my heart.
Hugs

Lance-I loved this story when I read it....several times. And I teared up every time I read it. I hadn't seen the video about it-thank you for sharing.

this story is especially wonderful to me as I live in grapevine and I am thrilled to see such a pure example of what true brotherhood and fellowship and love really are right in my own backyard.

@Miz - This was a new Seuss quote to me - and I loved it as soon as I read it! It'll be an awesome addition to your body, MizTattooLady! And you need not say more...that says a lot about you right there - and it's all very awesome - just like you always have been!

@Andrew - Sometimes a second chance is all we need to really get back on track. Especially when the first chance we've had may not have been the most ideal situation to have been in. And I'm guessing that for most, if not all, of these boys - they came from a childhood where they were destined to a life of trouble. This may have been there first real moment of caring...

@Mark Salinas - You too, Mark - have a GREAT Valentine's day!

@Liara - Yes, winning is a state of mind - and having caring people in our corner can really help to uplift that state of mind we have. Great point Liara!

@Robin - Hi Robin. That's a great addition to this discussion - when we're healthy physically and emotionally (and probably more so emotionally) - we are better equipped to recognize and help others. And, in so doing, I think we also continue to become more healthy ourselves, like a great circle to be on!

@Evita - Even if you don't enjoy the game of football, this video is still so inspiring. It's so much more about life possibilites than it is about football. And, in seeing what a difference one person (the coach in this case) can make - I do believe that inspires us to know that we CAN make a difference as well. Small steps to us can be huge to someone else. And, the Dr. Dyer quote sums it up so nicely - it really is how we look at things. Looking at them and seeing the bad or the negative, begets the same. Seeing the possibility in everything - that makes the possibilities so much more attainable. And that is a very uplifting message - and one that can serve us well. Let's keep applying that Evita - you, me, everyone who reads this. And see the miracles happen before us! Wonderful, as always Evita, thanks so much for your heartfelt comments.

@Giovanna - We are all the same. We've all been knocked down at one time or another - maybe not knocked down as much as these boys had been - still, though, to a degree, we can all relate. And know that having someone sticking up for us, being in our corner, can make all the difference! Thanks much Giovanna!

Hi Lance
What ring the loudest in me was when they say, "For the first time ever, someone was in there corner, and that is all that matter." No matter who we are, we all need someone in our corner sometime. We are all the same.
Thank you for this.

Wow Lance, three things I have to share here:

First, wow that video was amazing, I am not a big fan of football so I wasn't sure what to expect and then I found I actually had real tears in my eyes (needless to say I was very pleasantly surprised)

Two, it never surprises me how much difference one person can make!

And Three you started off this post with one of my most favorite and life changing quotes from Dr. Dyer. It is a miracle when we apply this wisdom and see what happens in our life!

Hi there Lance - I really believe that all healthy people (healthy physically and emotionally) instinctively help other people and the earth whenever it is called for. I look to being the best I can be, because I know this is what helps others most, in the long run. Cheers!

It was certainly a very moving story and it represented a wonderful initiative from the coach.

Everyone deserves a second chance.

@Kathy|Virtual Impax - And that can be so difficult - especially being aware of the situation. Your heart was in the right place Kathy, even if you weren't in the physical cheering section of the team without much cheering.

@Jennifer - Hi again Jennifer, thanks for stopping back in! The key here is the word "allow" - when we "allow" God in to our hearts - and "allow" Him to direct us - great things can happen - many of them one small step at a time. We are those instruments of good - whether we making a large impact on many, or a small impact on one. It all matters...

@Cricket - Hi Tammy. Yes, I know you're at sporting events as much as we are here! It's like a home away from home, isnt' it! The emotions in this video run high, and you're so right - that what we see here on a football field applies just as much to our everyday lives. Just like what you did at Christmas Tammy! Maybe it's really just shifted your "normal" to a new dimension. And, not to sound like I'm just copying you - what you've done here - that is wonderful - and that's also just like YOU!

@Lori - There is so much emotion in what transpires in this football game - in such wonderful ways. Simple acts can mean the difference between despair and pure joy! It doesn't take much...

@Femalebrains - This a very cool idea. And I think if we do look at this from an optimistic angle - there is so much good being done, and being received. How much will it really help, once these boys get back into noral life behind bars? I like to think that some of them will remember this - and will remember that someone cared. And that will be enough for them to believe. Will it help all of them? Although I can't say for sure, I would guess that the answer is no. Still, even if one of these boys is affected enough by this that he turns his life around - then it has been all worth it, and then some...

@Liara - Teams play together as a team. In the case of this video, the audience that joined the opposing sidelines really became part of that team for the night. And together - they won. Maybe not winning the game. But winning in life - for once - they left with their head held high...

@BJ Keltz - Hi BJ! Yes, spread this - that's one way right there that you can spread good. This coach and the fans he recruited - amazing individuals working together that night!

@Jannie - I think that's exactly it Jannie. This moment may be a turning point in their lives - and even if it is for only one of them - it has been worth it. These boys won that night - they won in their hearts - because they were given hope. Something few, if any, of them have really seen in their lives. And that's all so powerful!
