@Robin Easton - Robin, this is so wonderful! And how you've said it just really is what makes me come even more alive in what can be - irregardless of what's already on our "artwork". Each day is a day to become the masterpiece we are inside! And now, you've inspired me. And about that post....hmmm....I'll think about that - you've got my wheels spinning. Thank you so much, as always, for such a heartfelt and honest response.

@Jared - Thanks so much for sharing the story of part of your family. I'm especially moved by your mother, and how she says "draw what you see, not what you think it should look like." If we could all allow ourselves to do this, to not get hung up what we "think" something should look like - what a free expression of our souls! Thanks so much for stopping back here. And I agree, Robin has really added to the conversation here (she always does, her words are spoken with so much heart and soul in them).

@Robin Easton - Hi again Robin! And thank you for stopping back too! Your words, once again, add so much meaning. Thank you, my friend, for all you give of yourself...

This is filled with life what you have written here and I am honored and encouraged by your kind words. Also blown away by your blog. Beautiful work. You piece about learning your Dad's love language is astounding. Brilliant! And one so many people should read. Essential reading. When we can see beyond our expectations and realize each being expresses love in different ways...then we REALLY find abundant love everywhere. But for as long as we hang onto "I want love THIS way and if I don't get it THIS way then they aren't giving it me, we will end up very lonely in score keeping. Thank you for such depth of insight. I can see why you and Lance would hit it off.

@Robin,
What a great addition to the comments.

"Anyway, my point being that a serious committed artist doesn’t stop painting just because they happen to put the wrong color in the painting. They simply paint over it or somehow incorporate it into the whole in a new way."

Both my mother and sister are professional artist... I can't draw a straight line without the use of software. But I do write music however. I've seen my mothers style change over the years, and I've witnessed what you talk about; a painting that starts out was one thing ends up as something totally different and more beautiful then what was originally imagined. Hmm, sort of like my life and how it has turned out since I turned it over to a power greater than myself.

My mother teaches art therapy, mostly to Alzheimer's patients, and believes everyone can be an artist. She always tells me "draw what you see, not what you think it should look like."

And as you mentioned, even our worst days can teach us something. I like to remind myself that I can start my day over anytime I like. Just stop, pray, get present, and ask for guidance.

<abbr><em>Jared´s last blog post..<a href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/SpiritualZen/~3/Kn6bSiJmv2E/" rel="nofollow">Learning my fathers love language</a></em></abbr>

I'm sure late in getting to this one. LOL!!! You know, I was so excited when I saw this quote because it is something I believe SO strongly. If we can really look at our lives, EVERY day, as a work of art it starts to change how we perceive ourselves and life. Even if things go wrong that day, we can still embrace that. All artists learn, make mistakes, trial and error, change a color, a texture, an angle, the painting is forever evolving. (Now see? This would be a post that YOU would write so well. Comparing life to painting a picture. It's the type of writing that you excel at.)

Anyway, my point being that a serious committed artist doesn't stop painting just because they happen to put the wrong color in the painting. They simply paint over it or somehow incorporate it into the whole in a new way.

It's easy for us all to do that with our great and beautiful days, but we tend to discard our rougher days when we don't need to. They too can be part of the painting or tapestry, etc. In fact IF we embrace them they add a depth to the work that would otherwise be missing. So I say, embrace it all. Like my husband says at least once or more week, "It's ALL life."

Wow, you sure inspired me dear Lance. Thank you so so so much. Hugs to you and thank you for your beautiful heartfelt response on my last comment here. Touched me deeply. You always do. Hugs, Robin

Hi Jared,
When you really let that thought sink in - deeply - the thought that we're all dying - it is so powerful. And it can also be so difficult to grasp - this idea that, like someone who has just been diagnosed with some incurable disease - we are all dying. When we reframe that for ourselves - the whole time thing makes it difficult. It's one thing to know you have six months or a year or two years even, left to live. When you have no idea how long your time on earth will be - grasping each day as such an important day is difficult. So - I think this fits very well Jared. Are we creating that masterpiece of our life with the thought that our time here on earth is limited?

And - thanks much for sharing your own thoughts on your masterpiece creation - awesome!

I am a work of art and a spiritual warrior. Each day I dawn a brush and sword to create and battle towards achieving the best possible me I can be. To love, to live, to experience everything I can in this day. Hmmm, that's pretty cool... I just started writing and that's what came.

When I first read this quote, I thought of something I read a few years ago. Not sure if it applies to this quote or everyone's comments, but I felt I was to share it here...

"My friend Joe Mathews shared a poignant story with me recently. His best friend's wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given a short time to live. Joe said he watched in awe as Dan and his wife, Christine, began to live each day with tremendous clarity and love. When it was nearly the end Joe finally got up the courage to ask Christine the question: "What does it feel like to live each day knowing you are dying?" She raised herself up on one arm, and then asked him, "Joe, what does it feel like to live each day pretending that you are not?"

@FatFighterTV - Hi Sahar. We all have moment of getting distracted. Similar to creating that great painting - the artists have to take breaks to keep their inspiration there. As long as we're working on it...it's being developed! And it will be a masterpiece if we really put our heart into what we're creating within...

@Liara - Yes, I think we all have that soul energy - and awakening it - wow, what a masterpiece this can lead to. And if we can share this with others - how much greater this is. Just like beautiful art - it's best when others can see her beauty as well. Just like us - when we allow ourselves to shine, this helps others to find that within themselves also.

@Nadia - Hi Nadia. No apologies needed! It's great to have you here, whenever you can make it. Yes, we can decide what goes on that canvas, especially if we are fully aware of ourselves and connected to our inner spirit. ...and the world opens up to us...

@Tabitha - Beauty starts by what's inside, and how we let that shine. Each of us has that - we just have to open our hearts to seeing it - and then letting it out. Taibtha, you are living it...

@Patricia - Hi Patricia. And this just shows that all things, great or small - can be the Mona Lisa of our life. What a great example - the birdhouse can be likened to a small part of us that we work on. You are a masterpiece Patricia! And...great news on Tipper!

@Patricia – Hi Patricia. And this just shows that all things, great or small – can be the Mona Lisa of our life. What a great example – the birdhouse can be likened to a small part of us that we work on. You are a masterpiece Patricia! And…great news on Tipper!

I am applying new paint to my husband's fanciful birdhouse as a birthday gift and I pretend that I am a painter doing a Mona Lisa for the bird's delight.

I am a piece of work all right! I am all too mindfully aware.

(Just for FYI - did you see that Deep Friar's dog was found? Tipper ran away during a thunderstorm and 30 days later a farmer found her - very thin but OK- thought that was good news )

I pray I am living this very way. I love the thought of seeing each single second as a work of art. If we truly paid attention we'd see beauty beyond our imagination.

Hi Lance,

Apologies on the delay in getting here. These last two days have been busy but a happy busy. :)

As usual, I loved the quote! It is so true. Our lives are a canvas and it is up to us to decide how we want that canvas to look. :)

We are more powerful than we know. The world is open to whatever we have to offer and we start that process by creating a life that is truly reflective of who we really are.

Hope all is awesome, my friend! Keep Smiling! :)

A person exists to recognize there is more to life than ordinary, perceived routines. Soul energy within every person is in the process of awakening. The degree to which a person awakens is proportional to the degree to which that person accepts the truth, those things the ego mind resists at all cost. Identity is unrelated to physical existence. Conditioned beliefs and attachments keep you brainwashed until you detach and sense beyond them. The trigger is to recognize certain things are imbalanced, not experienced and accepted as they are. Rest assured, anything done by a confused or misled self does not reflect the real you. Guilt and shame are misplaced. Awakening means a willingness to deteach from illusions of grief and misunderstandings. Learning from every experience without judgment is part of the never-ending, unseen process. Sharing with others helps each person awaken more fully, even now.
