@Rose – Hi Rose. No, sometimes it’s not easy to be happy. The important thing, I think, is that we always remember we have a choice. So, yes there’ll be moments that aren’t happy, especially if we’re in a less-than-ideal position. And maybe that’s the time to look for something else, that brings us more in line with what matters to us.

@Jennifer – Hi Jennifer. Well…that’s a great point. If we’re in a position that is bringing us much unhappiness, then we’re probably not where we should be. And sometimes, finding something different can be easy. And then we should. Other times, it might take a while, be financially difficult, or be a challenge for any number of reasons. And that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to move into something more aligned with who we are – we should. It could be, though, that this could take time, too. And in that time, we can still choose how to respond to our current environment. So, I don’t think you’re way off at all, Jennifer. In fact, I think this is exactly what we should do when we’re not feeling aligned with where we’re at. These are great thoughts, and thoughts worth spreading. Sometimes, we can feel stuck in a “dead end” job, when in reality – we might just be a phone call, or an idea, or a contact, or whatever – away from something much more ideal.

It is all a choice, isn’t it Lance. It’s something I know you’ve heard me say more than once. I see this particular issue as a fine line sometimes. Sure it is our choice to be happy no matter what, but if we are in a job that is totally against out natural being and talent then how happy can we truly be doing something we hate? I think if that is the case we need to exercise our choice to find a job, a career that’s meaningful, that gives us life. Until we find that, yes I believe we can choose to be happy where we are at and make the most of the situation. I don’t know. Maybe I’m way off here, but it’s something that I’ve thought quiet a bit about. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thank you for the reminder to choose to be happy. And thank you for always spreading happiness Lance!

@Caity – Teaching is such an important vocation. You are helping to shape the future of our country, and that’s a pretty awesome thing! And that you love your job makes it even more connecting for the kids you’re working with – very cool!

Hi Lance and Karl .. Work Happy Now – absolutely .. people seem to be in jobs just for the monthly cheque. It would make their lives so much easier and happier if they just worked to please .. and saw pleasure in all the small things of life.

Fortunately I am happy by nature .. and do my best to exude this across to others – at least he positivity side of it .. and bring laughter to people. I’m in one of those dilemmas now – my uncle is in the hospice .. and I bounce in and he is quite normal (in for 2 week respite) .. in fact realises his time has come (86) and isn’t regretting life .. we laugh etc .. difficult when everyone else is around – sitting morosely with not much to say .. yesterday his welcome was .. I suppose you’ve come to see the corpse! I burst out laughing .. I do the same with my mother .. she was belly laughing yesterday .. I’m so lucky. It has helped others at my mother’s Nursing Centre .. relatives and patients, and staff for that matter ..

That is awesome! I personally love my job. I teach middle schoolers and then I go to work at an after school program at the YMCA. It’s so rewarding and I come home feeling happy every day, even if I feel tired sometimes.

@Laurie – I know you’re doing work you really love, Laurie. Loosing track of days…how wonderful is that! And when we think back to our Source, to our God – and His role in our lives – wow! There is so much to be happy about!

@Mimi – “I am happy and noone can get me down” — Mimi, what a beautiful attitude to have! And the word “sprout”…I love that too! Gosh, this whole comment is just loaded with so much happiness! I think what you are doing is so filled with a deep happiness within you, and it’s so great to see that blossoming. I know we’ve talked about some of this in the past, and that makes reading about it here even better! Keep on stepping out of that box…

@Sagan – Hi Sagan. This all reminds me of the word “choice”. Something so important to remember in all aspects of our daily lives…

@Angelia – Hi Angelia! Thanks for stopping over! And that’s so true – it can very often be the negative vibrations from others that really affects those they’re near. It doesn’t mean we can’t rise up above that negativity, it’s just more difficult when we’re near it. You DO radiate life, Angelia! Do take that with you to the workplace…

Lance,
I totally dig this! I have been applying this and it really works. I am happy and noone can get me down
When you can’t get the happiness from your job and you don’t have the luxury of quitting cause you have a mortgage to pay, there are other ways to surround that and become happy despite the dull job you may have.
I have started organising creative workshops at work and it has increased my happiness and communication of the people overall. When you start something fun to you, it catches on and suddenly all sorts of people come up to you with ideas etc. It sprouts.
You are responsible for how you feel. If you cannot change the work you are doing and you cannot leave it, then change something around it: during lunchtime is ideal. What can you do during lunchtime? Setup a class, create a group working on a subject that inspires you, create your own personal fun area at work etc. The ideas are endless.

I am happy at work Lance! In working for myself, the pressure and deadlines I have, are self created. The only one shaking a finger at me is….well, me. It’s as if my business is this huge, I don’t know, project or game or something like that. It’s a series of smaller riddles to be solved and I can solve them if I think about it and use some creativity.

I lose track of the days but that is a good thing. I’m not really thinking about the days but which tasks I want or need to tackle that day. I really feel that my business, the idea for it and how it is working out, is a gift from God. How could I not work happy knowing that?
