Lisa – It’s great to have you here today! And it doesn’t matter when you get here, it’s all good! Glad you had a chance to experience some rain in your neighborhood! I have a funny story about visiting LA about five years ago. We came in November, for a conference I was attending. My family joined me for a long weekend beforehand. We had one day (Saturday) to go to Disneyland…and it rained and was downright cold (even for us, from Wisconsin!). We came up with a new saying for Disney – The Rainiest Place On Earth! My aunt and uncle still thank us for coming, and bringing the rain that year! Seems like by the end of that day at Disney, the rain wasn’t seeming all that puddle-wonderful!!

I’m so sorry I’m late with this comment. I just scrolled through my RSS feed, and after the rainy weekend we had here in LA this weekend, I just had to comment.

Sometimes I miss the rain, but after this weekend, I’m only missing the thunder.

Thank you for sharing this great reminder that rain can be fun. For me, because it’s kind of rare, it’s all the more fun.

Laura – We had our first snow just the other day. Otherwise, it’s been rain for us, too. And at a time when snow is a little more likely. Today, though, it would have to be a snowball fight here instead of puddle jumping! And I love the addition of your “Tigger steps” here…a perfect fit!!

Just took a peek here and saw this as I’m listening to the early morning rain pouring outside my window! Buckets and bathtubs and I don’t know what….but rain that typically should be snow by now. Definitely a day for funky rainboots and mukluks left stored in the closet.

I have some rubber boots like the one in the picture, but mine are green with a frog face on them. I love jumping in puddles when I wear them. Seriously, that’s what I do when I have them on. BTW, love e. e. cummings!

Hi Lance .. not a good idea for us at the moment .. those boots ain’t no good .. you need fishing waders .. and strong legs .. didn’t see yours ..so don’t know if they’be sufficiently strong .. the torso was pretty taught, but perhaps a little lacking muscle for the rain job.

Splashing kids .. aren’t they just wonderful .. great wellie boots ..

@Diane/Fit to the Finish – Kids and mud seem to go well together! I’m reminded of a soccer game I was coaching a couple of years ago. It was cold and rainy – miserable by most standards. And…the kids thought it was the most fun game of the year – even though they left completely muddy and soaked! And the game your kids plays sounds great!

@Marelisa – Hi Mare. I love your attitude! Awesome that you are getting out there, in spite of “less that perfect” conditions! I find running in the rain to be almost cleansing, in a way.

@Yum Yucky – Hey Josie. Might I suggest that you splash some of that dish water at those kids running around your house…or maybe even your husband! Start a water fight! The “Mom” in you will love it!!!!

@Barbara – Hi Barbara. They sure are bright colored boots!! So, sometimes all it takes is adding a little color to our wardrobe, and that can change our outlook – pretty sweet!! I have some mismatched striped socks I’ll wear to do just that…

@J.D. Meier – Great point! When we start to over-think something (messy or not), we can easily get caught up in why NOT to do it (like jumping in the muddy puddles). And yet, when we do that – when we jump in (to whatever), it can be a lot of fun!

@Stacey Shipman – So…Stacey…we’d have a blast walking down the street on a rainy day! I’m guessing no one would be dry! And I don’t have any colorful boots either (although they sure are bright and cheery!). And thank you, it was a wonderful weekend…although good to get back home, too…

@Karl – Hey puddle man! Maybe that could be your superhero name!! Dogs are a great example of living in the moment – they live for “living in the moment” – whether that’s taking a nap, or running and jumping in puddles! Hmmm…there’s a lot we could learn from these creatures!

I’m a puddle man myself. I take the dog our rain or shine and we run around the local elementary school. She is jumping all over the puddles and mud. I have to give her a hose shower every time we are done. But it’s worth it.

I absolutely love putting on my rain gear – boots to head – and walking in the rain/splashing in puddles. Admittedly my boots aren’t as cute and playful as the ones in your picture, but they’ll do just the same! It’s very freeing to just “be” in your environment.

I think it’s a great reminder that sometimes to have fun in the moment, you have to be in the moment.

Mud and puddles can be a blast while you splash around or kick it up … it’s just when you start thinking about how you don’t want to get dirty or how you’ll have to clean yourself up, that it’s no longer fun.

Sometimes life’s messy. Actually, lots of times it’s messy. We just need to know how to kick it up and have fun with it. In the words of Richard Branson, sometimes you just gotta say, “screw it, let’s do it.”
