“A word is not a crystal, transparent and unchanged; it is the skin of a living thought, and may vary greatly in color and content according to the circumstances and the time in which it is used.” ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

One Word

It’s the dawn of a new year.  A time to start fresh.  To review the past and look toward the future.

“I want to lose weight.”

” I will spend more time with my family.”

“I intend to eat healthy every day.”

New Year’s Resolutions.   Grand plans to start the year anew.  Statements that touch upon some area in our life that we’re not completely happy with.  Ever done them – made New Year’s resolutions?  Just like the spike in gym memberships in January of each year – followed by the decline in February, New Year’s resolutions typically fade quickly as our daily lives takes us to where we’ve always been.

Last year, I was inspired by a much different approach to New Year’s resolutions – a concept by singer/song writer/blogger Christine Kane.  The idea – to come up with one word to focus on.

The idea – that this one word will connect with us at a much deeper level, and inspire us to make it become part of our daily life.  That it will BE part of our true fabric.  And in being part of us at a much deeper level, this word will be a guide toward the life we desire, toward doing the things that are in alignment with what this word means to us.

One word.  For 2009, the word I chose was COURAGE.  And in many amazing ways, that one word manifested itself in my life.

2010

My word.

SPLASH!

Note:  If you’re having trouble viewing this, click here.

SPLASH — what does that mean to me?

As I spent some time thinking about what word really connected with me — my thoughts kept coming back to three words: adventure, action, and fun.  I bounced back and forth — which one to really encompass this new year?  Choosing one, felt like I was neglecting something else in me.

SPLASH!

It embodies all of these:  adventure, action, and fun.

Taking action and jumping in — SPLASH!

Having fun — SPLASH!

Seeing the adventure that comes in all of life’s moments — SPLASH!

This is about not only the big SPLASHES in life, it’s really about embracing all of life’s moments — big and small and everything in between — and seeing that jumping in is really a beautiful part of life.  And as much as this is about embracing life in a very physical sense, for me this also means jumping in to my own internal thoughts as well.  Being with those thoughts that I have bouncing around in my head and in my heart — and taking the time to SPLASH around with them, to not ignore these thoughts in the normal-ness of daily life.

In everything that this upcoming year holds, I am ready to SPLASH around with it all!

SPLASH!

  1. this year my word is “balance” because 2009 found me so out of balance for so long. Moderate, calm, still, listening more than speaking, healthy, kind, giving more than taking. Pay attention to what is important. Centered. Yeah, I choose Balance.

  4. LisaNewton says:

I love your choice of word for this year, Lance. Splash is an action word with so many possibilities.

Last year, my word was outside. I managed to do several of the ideas I associated with this word, but not all of them. So, this year, in order to complete what I started last year, I’m doing the opposite, INSIDE.

Looking inside myself to find the strength to go outside my comfort zone
Looking at people from the inside out
Looking at a photo from the inside, finding that inner color that isn’t always present
Looking inside to see my own strengths instead of focusing on the weaknesses

I already do several of these in small ways, but in this new decade, looking from within helps clear the vision of what’s out, if you know what I mean.

You’ve created a warm and wonderful place here, Lance. Thanks for sharing it with everyone. 2010 is going to be a great year.

  7. Yay!! Very splashy around here today!!

    Jannie’s word is GIVE !!!

Gonna give my time, talent and treasure, but especially my time! And my patience.

As that video on Compassion pointed out last week… I remember the idea of ” dethroning myself to think of another person first.”

Give it away, it’ll come back shining.

    Give, to live happy.

Give my very best stuff, ”cause there’s always plenty more where that came from!

    Happy Splashy year, Lance!

What a great thought — focusing on one word. “Splash” is a great one and does encompass so much. I think I’ll go with the first word that popped into my head “Forward.” I want to look forward and not back so much in 2010.

    Hi Lance!
What a FUN word to concentrate on for the year — it seems to suit you so well. And in my continuing quest for simplifying everything, I just LOVE the one word concept here. So many words pop in my head right now — and therein lies the problem! haha! I am going to pick PACE. I seem to need a stead pace — of grace — to focus on. I do get so distracted I should probably pick focus for my word, but I think in the big picture I need to pace myself. These manic bits of energy tend to throw me off or exhaust me — and I don’t really want to rule out distractions because some of them are really quite lovely (some!) so yeah, give me a nice pace, a flow — oh wait, I like flow better than pace, can I change my choice? (see what I mean?)
    Splash on, my friend!

    My word: INSPIRE.
I want to be inspired by all that is around me.
I want to be an inspiration to as many people as I can. But if I only inspire one person, that is okay too.

I look forward to following you on your splish-splash journey this year. You have certainly inspired me!

  13. Jenny says:

Now that is a video after my own heart! Being the line dancer that I am, I absolutely loved that video! I also loved the post. I have seen several posts last year and now starting to this year about choosing a word as your theme for the year. For some reason I have been afraid to do this because I am afraid of failing at it. I know that sounds kinda silly but this is my life, I get scared of failing at things. This is probably why I haven’t put up a post at my own blog for months, I’ve been to scared to. If I had to choose a word right now, based on what I have just written, it would have to be Brave. Of course choosing a word is the easy part, well somewhat easy, now acting on it, that is going to be the hard part. I think I need to work on figuring out a way to go through with this for 2010. Who knows what it could lead to. I may just have to check out Christine Kane’s site, now that you and Wendi are hooked!

Looking at my list of tags for my blog last year I now see that I used the word “awareness” 11 times! I didn’t realize it until just now…kind of ironic huh? My word is “Embrace”–it’s already been amazing!

  37. avtcoach says:

You know about my 2009 pursuit with Peggy, Roban, Julie and Annemarie. We had a blast! We learned from each other. I am pressing on as well to choose another word. I choose Gratitude. A well used, well worn word that is batted around easily by many. My approach is that what ever word we choose it should have feet. It should bring about some type of change. Your word is wonderful. SPLASH is all about action which means you will be moving.…dynamic…pursuing…never stagnate. SPLASH also means to me “spread out”, for when you splash it is not like a 10 rated “dive” where it is controlled and succinct. SPLASH is out there..of the moment…and have you ever seen a child who was splashed and they did not smile. I hope your family enjoys your SPLASHING in 2010.

  39. Lance says:

@Lynn — The thing about this whole concept is that it really does work, especially if you reall let that word become part of your being. Last year was proof in so many ways for me, seeing “courage” really take a stronghold in my life. So Lynn, just let this word soak into your soul…FORWARD…and I am sure you will experience much of this “looking forward” in your life this year.

@Suzen — Hi Suzen. Well, I’m hoping that in so choosing this word of SPLASH, that I can really take that to a new level — in really jumping in to those things that have meaning to me. HaHaHa!!! Suzen, reading your words here as you worked through a word choice for yourself…priceless! Flow, baby, flow!!

@Erin — Hey Erin! So, your words both inspire me to “splash” and scare me just a bit (and that’s a good thing!). INSPIRE…Erin, I want you to know that you do inspire already, in amazing ways — and I am but one of many recipients of this gift from you. In fact, like I said just a sentence above, your words here today are inspiring me. And you have since the first time our paths crossed. So, know that I see this as a great word for you, to really take that next step in INSPIRATION — in all facets of the word. And know that I am also humbled by your words today…your soul is beautiful…

@Betsy — Hi Betsy. Yep, I’m upping the “fun” factor this year! And…if a few others happen to get “wet” with fun along the way, that sounds pretty great too! So, tonight I join you, as we virtually Drink. More. Champagne. Woohoo!

@Diane AZ — Hi Diane. I really wanted a word this year that felt both action-oriented and fun. SPLASH sure seems fitting! And your word…THIS…an interesting choice, and then I read your last sentence — “Just this”. What a wonderful, wonderful connection.

@Jenny — The video sure is fun, isn’t it! You know, being afraid of failing is not at all uncommon. I have that fear. And then I think…what’s the worst thing that can happen? And usually, that “worst thing” really isn’t that bad at all (not that I always remember that). Jenny, “brave” is a wonderful word for you. And even if there are moments throughout the year where you don’t feel so brave, that doesn’t mean you have failed. Not at all, especially if you recognize this and keep on moving forward. So, just let this word, “brave”, sit within your soul. And then let life unfold…it will, in beautiful ways.

@Henri — The words “creativity” and “expansion” are very much words that can lead you in some amazing directions! Henri, I wish you much success as you let these two words become a real part of your being this year.

@Laura Hegfield — Well, I think that is pretty awesome…seeing how “awareness” has appeared so many times over the last year for you — directing you to a focal direction this year! And…awareness…perfect for spending time in Jan’s meditation challenge. That’s synchronicity!

@Tom Volkar — Hey Tom! I am not surprised you used the word “play” here in leading up to your word for this year. And “aliveness”! This is something I have witnessed in you from our first conversations! So, seeing you ready to take that to the next level (or more accurately…already taking to the next level) is awesome! And kudos to you on the successful launch of your Big Link Rally! Shining ALIVENESS I am sure!

@Caroline — Jumping in…I am so ready to do that (and at times…well, a bit scared too, by all that it can mean). And that really is part of the beauty of this exercise, it becomes an exercise in stretching ourselves to new heights! And Caroline…“blooming” is a wonderful word for you, and I see that as you coming out and just spreading your beauty to all those around you!

@Positively Present — Thanks much, Dani! And I’m looking forward to what this exercise will bring for you…

@Hayden — Water is a pretty awesome thing — in fact, we couldn’t survive without it, could we! So, I’m jumping in! And letting that “water of life” envelop me. Happy new year to you, too, Hayden!!

@Patricia — Spiritual Journey of a Lightworker — The idea of fun was a real factor in my choosing a word this year. I really want this year to be fun-filled, in so many ways. And I’m ready to jump in and go after that! And your three words are great, Patricia. And I think it’s fine that it is not just one word, as long as it is something that is not too difficult to grasp and get your arms around. Here’s to a great year ahead for you, and you let these three words become a part of your soul…in new and beautiful ways.

  42. Lance says:

@Megan — As I was putting this post together, colorizing the word SPLASH just really felt right. And then, once I did it…I *knew* it was right. It added so much to the concept of fun and adventure I was looking for. So, the world will be splashing with me — wow!! I’m taking it that you’ll be there in some of those puddles with me, huh! (that will be GREAT!) And to your word…PASSION…that is most definitely a word that can take courage to fully embrace. With a base of love, though, I know that this word will manifest itself in your life, in some very beautiful ways. Megan, thank you for being so filled with life and love..always…and for sharing this deep enthusiasm for life with all those you touch in some special way (like me!).

@Stacey/Create A Balance for Moms — Stacey, you are making me smile really big tonight…a “Lance word”! Woohoo! (Did I mention about that smile you’ve given me today…a smile that goes to my soul…). And having you here today is extra special anyway, as this is something we have talked about before — just how much these words can mean. And I love the word you have chosen. EXPAND is something I have witnessed you doing in many, many ways already — and I look very much forward to what this leads to for you this year…in abundance, success, and love. YOU are awesome, sweet friend!

@Wendi Kelly — Hi Wendi. The color with the SPLASH really felt like the right thing…a colorful splash in daily living!! And…you are keeping your word under lock and key! I WILL be over on Friday (the suspense!!).

@Marisa — Thanks Marisa!! And STRENGTH is a great word to focus on…in so many ways! Adding this to a vision board can be a powerful exercise in really keeping tha awareness there, and that’s awesome!

@Sami — Hey Sami. You are sweet! And for you — being focused on pleasure, peace, and abundance (contentment) is a great place to focus on. So, as we head into this new year, may you find contentment…as I stand near you splashing in a puddle! (and…really, I do hope very much that you see this word become a part of your being this year…)

@Nadia — Hi Nadia. Reading your words today…I have this deep feeling of kindered spirits. I do intend to live this word out, in vivid colors! Thank you for being here on this journey with me, dear friend…

@Karl — Karl, I think the word ENCOURAGE is a great word for you to focus on. I see you doing this already, encouraging others in so many ways. And I also know that you will find much strength within yourself, by placing this encouraging focus there as well…on you. By encouraging yourself, you also help to make encouraging others along the way easier to do…and that really is a great place to be at!

  43. Lance says:

@Patricia — Isn’t that strawberry making impact with the milk way awesome! And thank you, Patricia, for all our support this past year. A focus on health is something that is very important, and so keeping the focus there is good. Making that word a little more directed toward laughter and joy…very cool!

@Lori — Hi Lori! Geez, you HAD to remember THAT picture! Yikes! (and thanks…and I’m blushing…and okay, let’s move on!!!). And reading your comment, I have this real Dr. Seuss feel about me righ now…and come to think of it, if I can live my life in a bit more Dr. Suess fashion, then things are pretty great! Lori, I so deeply value your presence here, and your words are humbling as I read them tonight. Know that you are a light here, and in my life in so many ways…and I’m so grateful for that. And Lori, whatever your focus for the upcoming year, I konw that you will shine! (and I’ll be there to support you all the way) Peace and love to you…

@Sagan — Thanks Sagan! I’m ready (bring on the waters of life!). And it is so good to hear how your word of CONFIDENCE has been so good in your life, and I wish you well in the upcoming year…as you just continue what you have so wonderfully already started!

@J.D. Meier — The “exposed” post was one that was definitely involving some courage to do. And looking back, it is good to look at some of these moments, and see really how truly courage did come into play. And now I am ready to make a splash!!

@Amanda — Hi Amanda. CONNECTION. I love that word! Connection is something that is deeply meaningful to me, and so reading this tonight — know that I believe so much in this word, and what it means. Amanda, you are doing that, right here, connecting with me, and building a stronger relationship. And what is really great about this is that I know you are looking at relationships with meaning, because we have been connected since one of the very first months of my blogging experience…and have kept the relationship there and just continued to strengthen it. Awesome!

@Stacey Shipman — With all sorts of thoughts and ideas bouncing around, FOCUS is a great word. It can be easy to have all these ideas…turning them into reality, though — that takes FOCUS. Stacey, I think this is so fitting for you, especially given your phrase of “go for it”. Your ideas and brilliance will take you to new heights with FOCUS as the backbone and “going for it” as the soul. So, I’m excited for both of us — and this year ahead that WILL be fill with splash, focus, going for it, and (I love your bonus!!) feel good! Woohoo!! 2010 will rock!

@Joy — Well, that strawberry sure does look delicious! And now… I’m getting hungry! Joy, thank you for your infectiously uplifting attitude you bring here! I can’t help but be energized by your words! And an ocean dive for me…you ARE awesome and amazing!! Speaking of amazing…how great to read about your word EMBRACE, and how amazing it has already been for you!

  44. Zorlone says:

Hey, I know you! Aren’t we twitter pals?

Anyway, my one word for the year… let’s see, I am actually thinking while I am writing this down and I hope that I would come up with a really cool word like yours. Let’s see, you already took the word SPLASH so that wont do.

    *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*

I had to blog hop to find the right word man, it’s “Adaptable.” This year is going to be exciting for me, new job (same work description), different country and people, It’s going to be one rollercoaster ride that I don’t want to miss.

Good luck with your plans man!

  45. Awesome Lance!! I loved this post…this one word to focus on the whole year idea…and then I so fell in love with SPLASH! I might just secretly borrow that word from you sometime this year ;)
The comments here are so full of ONE words…such beautiful and impactful words everyone has chosen.
I personally loved Jannie’s GIVE and Megan’s PASSION.
Come to think of it my word for this year just automatically ends up being LOVE.…i dont know why…but i just seem to gravitate towards the lovely feel that word brings in my being.… I want to focus all my giving and my time and my passions in giving and spreading love…and most of all coming from love in all I do.
Happy Splashy New Year To You my dear Friend.…

My word? EMBRACE! I am beginning a new business venture in 2010; actually, taking the next steps toward it, and the name of it is EMBRACE!!!! To represent the need to embrace our lives, embrace our selves, and embrace that which the Universe is offering to us. I intend on embracing every moment, using it for lessons in my life, and not missing anything if I can help it. Embracing every opportunity, challenge, blessing, and gift; that is what 2010 means to me. Thanks Lance!

@avtcoach — What you five did during 2009 was really a great way to keep the focus there throughout the year. Awesome! GRATITUDE is a great word, and even if it is a word that is thrown around a lot, what matters is how you see it in your life. And I can really tell that this word has much meaning for you…and that makes it right. I love what you’ve said about SPLASH, and how kids are attracted to this concept of splashing, getting in there, and having fun! That’s my goal this year! And best to you, on all the new year holds!

@Sherrie St. Cyr — And it’s not so much how the word sounds, as to the meaning you derive from it. May this year bring many rewards for you!

@Trish — Hi Trish. I do get the picture! And that’s a great word, with all it’s meanings. What I think is neat about the word FIT is that when you start with FITness…the rest just start to fall into place. Here’s to a great year ahead! And…this is a word I plan to focus on as well!

@Zorlone — I do believe we are connected in Twitter…so, it’s great to see you here too! It sounds like a lot of changes in your life, so ADAPTABLE is a great word to focus on. Change is not always easy, and going in with the right mindset can make all the difference. Savor the moments this year brings! And thanks much for the support…

@Zeenat — Zeenat, I think you are touching upon something so important in choosing a word to focus on. It’s a word that connects with us at a deeper level, and has some special meaning as to what it can lead to. LOVE is a wonderful word, and one I know will only serve to bring even more Love flowing in all directions in your life…something which already happens so beautifully. And, you are always welcome to borrow a SPLASH whenever you want to!!!

@Joanna — Hey Joanna! Well…SPICE is something I’m sure you’ll not quickly forget, Ms. Fitness and SPICE!! And I love the idea of “lighting a fire” in all areas of life! Rock on, awesome friend!

@Vanessa — I love the name of you businees venture (and word for the year)! EMBRACE!! And when I read your words on what EMBRACE means…wow! You have an amazing year in front of you, and I’m looking forward to where that takes you. Vanessa, thanks so much for sharing your passionate words here today.

Nice word, Lance! It’s an unconventional choice but you explained why you chose it so well. I like the idea of Splash! But you know me, I’ve gotten call you out on this one. You didn’t mention splashing into the pool so you can improve the swim leg of your next triathlon. (smile).

I haven’t decided on a word yet but this post got my wheels turning. I’ll keep you posted, friend.

Lance! What a perfect word for you! Love the video too. :-)

I’ve seen this word thing alot lately. I love the words people come up with to represent their year. It’s AWEsome! And the word I can’t shake is SEE. This is going to be such a memorable year for me, one I will never forget. My eyes are wide open. I will be looking outward, inwards, and up. I can’t wait to SEE this year.

  51. Splash away, Lance!! (In fact, I’ll bet you already have, diving into the new year and such!)

My word for 2010 is VITALITY. It’s an “umbrella word” for me, much like “Splash” covers “adventure, action and fun” for you. Vitality, for me, will infuse (is infusing!) all aspects of my life, not letting me settle for draining energy anywhere this year, or if it sneaks in, goosing me in the energetic butt to get back into vitality!

    Woohoo!

And I loved scrolling down through, seeing everyone’s diverse words. You really made a “splash” with this entry! :D

    Laura

  52. What a great concept Lance! I love the idea of a word for the year. Kind of like a yearly theme. Splash is so much fun and implies movement which I love.

Splash is such a fitting word for you, Lance. I am thrilled at all the noise you will make and the fun ripples you will make when you keep diving into life as it presents itself to you. I am still pondering my word. I have so many to choose from, so many heart’s desires. I am liking the word “Vibrant” a lot. It applies to health and energy and personal luminosity. Just living with joy, letting one’s inner light shine (especiall with no apologies or). What think ye? Is that a suiting word for little olé me?
Happy, happy New Year to you and yours. :-)

  55. Hi Lance!
I love your word for 2010!! It really seems to embody all the great elements of who you are. What a great word to follow your year of courage! My word is SOAR and my theme is “Take Flight.” 2010 is the year I will spread my wings and uplift my life to a whole new level. It is no longer about refining the way I am currently; it’s time soar to new heights! I can’t wait! Thank you for sharing your fun, passionate word here and for encouraging all the rest of us to adopt one, too. I look forward to sharing stories and encouragement all year long!

@Angel — Unconventional, eh??? Maybe I’m just weird (I have heard that before…). Maybe subconsciously I was thinking about some time in the pool (it wasn’t consciously, I’ll tell you that!!). And speaking of splashing, that’s what I do in the pool…while everyone else looks sleek and fast. Hmm… And I will work on that (the pool thing) — bring on the water, baby!! Okay, Angel…I’ll hold you to that, too…if I’m not posted soon…you know who’ll be bugging you…sweet friend!

@Angelia — Hey Angelia!! That “Splish Splash” song really is an upbeat (and fun!!) one! And SEE sounds like a wonderful word for you. I know there are many exciting things that will be happening (I“m super happy for you!) and being able to really and deeply SEE all those moments…Angelia, this will be so, so good.

@Laura Neff — They have this thing called the Polar Plunge…into Lake Michigan on New Year’s day. I did NOT make a splash that way to start the year! Yikes, that has to be super cold!! I suppose that would have been a great way to have started the year, though…a splash in a nearly frozen lake and a near case of hypothermia!! I’m veering off-subject, though… Thanks Laura! I do plan to do lots of splashing! So…VITALITY! And not settling…that really is a great way to approach life. It’s what we make of it…and I know that you are doing this with much energy and life! This will be an amazing year for you, and I am so looking forward to seeing it unfold…

@Diane — Yes, this is really like a yearly theme…and to keep it simple (and memorable), one word. And I love that you brought up movement, as that really is another area of focus for this year…and not something I mentioned up above.

@Daphne — Well…I will say that Hayden is one very inspiring gal! Daphne, this really is so worth doing, and even if you don’t think about this word all the time…just planting the seed in your heart can do some pretty amazing things.

@Jan — Hi Jan! “Fun ripples”…I love that phrase! So, that’s it…I’m off to make a whole bunch of fun ripples this year! (thank you!!) And for you…VIBRANT! Jan, I think this is a wonderful word for you for the year! I see you doing this so much already, really letting your light shine out into the world! And so, to think that you want to take this to an even deeper level, wow!!! Jan, I really believe this is going to be an incredible year for you! Happy New Year!!

@Jodi — Hi Jodi! SOAR!! What a super word for you, especially given the theme you are also focusing on…“take flight”! This will be a year filled with some amazing moments for you, I am sure of it! And I can’t wait to watch you SOAR in new and incredible directions! Jodi, just reading this is so inspiring! Here’s to a year filled with many moments for both of us…moments that involve lots of splashing and soaring!

  57. Keith says:

    Hello Lance!

You certainly chose a fun word and an exciting one too! So many possibilities there…

Thinking of a word and then focusing on it reminds me of a similar technique I’ve read about in several different religions. I remember reading, a few years ago, a book on Tibetan Buddihism. One thing that stuck in my mind all these years is how they have many different deities with different qualities and characteristics. When someone wishes to have more of a certain quality or characteristic in their life they spend a lot of time meditating on the deity which possesses those certain qualities or characteristics.

Choosing a word to focus on for a year seems like a great way to bring into one’s life all the things that word represents. Pretty cool.

I am finding it difficult to narrow it down to one word. The major contenders are : Faith, Encourage, and at the risk of sounding cheesy.…..Love. :-)

    Thanks Lance!

  61. Lance says:

@Keith — “Fun” is a big part of my plans for this year! Having done this last year, also, I can speak to the power of intention. It really was amazing to see how the word I chose last year, courage, really manifested itself in my life. And you have some great words you’re thinking about. Seeing the word LOVE, I’m reminded of something that Andrew Wyeth once said: “I think it’s love. Sounds sentimental as hell, but I really think it is.” So, LOVE is really a great word, and something that I believe is connecting at a very deep level for all of us. Thanks much, Keith, for all your thoughts!

@FatFighterTV — Thanks Sahar! Here’s to a colorful year ahead! And STRENGTH is a great word, especially when you see a need. And speaking of STRENGTH…I could use a bit of that too!

@Rocky — Hey Rocky! SIMPLICITY is such a good place to put focus. I find that when I simplify, my life just comes more into it’s truer being. And I get to that spot of really what matters. Awesome!

@Barbara — Hi Barbara!! Well…I hope to make some splashes this coming year! Especially now that I’ve “put it out there”! HOPE and BELIEVE are two very caring and loving words…which I really see you as exemplifying. Thank you so much for all the support you have given me!

It sounds very interesting and exciting and I look forward to reading about you making both big and small splashes alike. Courage seemed like a tough word to top, but I think you’ve got a great word to follow up. Thanks for sharing the one word idea Lance! After taking a look at the newly created vision boards I made yesterday (they are a work in progress) my word would have to be CHALLENGE.

I have set myself some challenges and I am truly excited about them. If some of them (or all of them) come off, then it will be an awesome year. If not, then it was a ‘challenge’ just trying and I would have learnt something from it all.

    Thanks for a great post,
    K

  64. Lance says:

@Tim — Hi Tim. Thanks! I’m ready to start splashing!! And this word really feels fun and action-oriented for me, two things I want to focus on. And I did see that you chose the word LAUGHTER. I think that’s a great word, and something where more is better! So, looking forward to much laughter in the upcoming year!

@Kirsty — Hi Kirsty! Welcome!! Vision boards are something that just sound like such a great way to focus on what really matters. I’ve never done one, but have only heard great things. And it’s great that you will be CHALLENGING yourself this coming year. And I do believe it will be an awesome year for you no matter what, and that is because I get this real sense of your commitment to this. Very cool!! And thanks so much for visiting today!

My word will be abandon. Doesn’t sound good at first, but when you hear that I’m living, loving, laughing and praying with abandon — it sounds pretty darn great in my opinion!

And your word of ABANDON — yes, at first that doesn’t sound like a good fit at all. It’s all in the meaning though, and I love how you are going to go about the year with abandon! It sounds way better than “pretty darn great”…it sounds downright awesome!

Ah don’t tempt me Lance! I still remember most of the steps to Achy Breaky Heart. That would be hilarious!!! I will let know if I ‘m taking up the “Lance Line Dance Challenge!“

Lance & Audra — You guys are intriguing me! Being the Line Dance Lover that I am, that’s my kind of challenge! However it sounds like my boots are a bit less dusty than yours! I’ve been line dancing in the last 2 weeks!

    Can’t wait for those videos!!

    Audra,
The hilarious part would be me out there on the dance floor. And…*ahem*, just so you know, Lora and I were out dancing last night (practicing, baby!). Well, except there wasn’t a line dance going on. Maybe that is tonight’s plan…are you scared now?!?!?!? Probably shaking in your boots, right!!! Hey, if that’s the case…it also means you FOUND your boots!

    Jenny,
For some reason.…I am getting scared here!! I just might need some lessons if Audra does this thing! I’ve been line dancing *maybe* once. Now…you see why I am scared, don’t you!! HELP!!!!

  72. Jenn says:

Lance, I love love love your word!! This is so you, and yet also stretching!
My word was Hospitality for this year.. The first half of the year was a lot of struggle and it didn’t feel like I could focus too much on it but the last month or so it is right at the center and I am so happy living into the fullness of this gift! ;) I hope that you are enjoying Splashing in 2010! As always, you are such an encouragement to many, and I hope that you know just how much we appreciate you!! Hugs, Jenn

      Jenn,
I am REALLY glad you commented on this today — for two reasons. It’s GREAT to hear about your word, and where you are at with it. And…it’s really good for me to revisit this post myself, and really think about how the year has been for me so far (in terms of SPLASHING!).

This year has had many splashes…as well as a few moments, too, where I have stepped away from the splash (and that’s what is really good for me to think about…why that happened).

Anyway, so good to hear where you are at today with HOSPITALITY!!

Big hugs and lots of love!
      Lance
