At One Hundred, Life Is…

by Lance Ekum on · 67 comments

“The most important things in life aren’t things.” ~ Anthony J. D’Angelo

Today marks the 100th time I’ve posted something here on the “Jungle of Life”.  One hundred…it seems like a good time to reflect on what this has all meant.  So…

Life is about making our splash.  Sometimes it’s grand, sometimes it’s a belly flop…

Sometimes, that means paddling our own boat…

Other times, that means we just need to rest.

Life.  It’s about caring for others….

And about having fun, dressing up, and cheering for the home team!

It’s all about trying new things, challenging ourselves, and testing our limits.

Life is about spending time with the one we love, the one who is there no matter what…

Life…is being with the ONES we love.

Sometimes in life, we get into predicaments…

And the best thing we can do is just smile, and be ourselves.

Sometimes we act weird.

Sometimes we look weird.

And the best thing we can do is just be who we are, and sing out our song…

Life is about climbing up new poles, and then just hanging around.

And learning new things…

Sometimes, we sit in the stands and cheer on the others we know.

And sometimes, it’s about getting into the action, and making the big catch.

Life.  We grow up.  Family.  We’re always there for each other.

Sometimes life gives us hills to climb…but then…the ride down is a lot of fun!

It’s about working together…building our lives (and our treehouses)…

Life is…Love.  Caring.  Respect.

Life.  There will be mountains to conquer.  We can’t do it alone.  It’s having the ones we love, there with us, through it all.

Life is…grand!

Life is grand because of the wonderful family I have.  They make all I do worth it.  Life is grand because of the friends I have.  Life is grand, because of you, my friends, all of you!  All of you that read these words.  Regular visitors and friends.  New visitors.  You all, every one of you, make my life better because of your thoughtful comments, the time you take to read my words, your simply being here!

Thank you, everyone, for being a part of my jungle of life!

Lance writes stories from his heart, aiming to inspire and motivate, as you align more fully with YOUR true peak. When he's not here, you can find him hanging out with his family, riding a bike, or just generally acting goofy.   Sign up for the Thoughts from the Treehouse newsletter and get additional inspiration in your email inbox!

Happy 100th Post!! What great reminders (and fun pictures- love the badger, and the kid in the cupboard, haha!!)

This totally reminds me of the web site where I met my husband. He had several pics on his profile where he listed below each how they related to his characteristics (i.e. a picture of him and 4 of his nephews was titled “good with kids”, and one of him in Egypt by the pyramids was called “loves travel and new experiences” and one of him cliff-jumping titled “not afraid to try new things”).

Thanks Lance, for a touching post, and for giving us a glimpse of who you are (love that quote, too).

Okay, Lance, count four crying women, now. I’m just a sentimental sap. 😉 You gave me a glimpse of my own history (you’re in the Midwest, aren’t you?). You speak from the heart. What you say is real, and about what’s real. You have a real knack for letting your words give voice to your heart, and the wonderful photos just added the extra zing. Now my contacts will be gummy and sticky, but I don’t care! My heart feels like you just gave it a nice fat hug. Thank you!

@RooBabs – That quote is great, isn’t it! Picture really do speak a thousand words, and especially with a glimpse into what they mean. What a way to get to know your future husband! The cupboard picture – yep, that’s a favorite of mine too!

@Julie – Sorry to make you cry Julie (ok maybe I’m not…)… Yes, I am in the midwest, did the Badger give it away?? Your words are very touching to me Julie, thank you so much. And…I’m glad I could give you a “hug” today…

@Mindful Mimi – Thank you! Yes, that cupboard shot is a favorite of mine too! Just checked out your little guys – cuites, they are! Enjoy them every day…

@Sagan – Thank you Sagan! And yes, life IS grand – for all of us!!

@Stacey Shipman – Thank you Stacey! It’s been really a lot of fun doing this post – sharing a little more about my whole family. And, life is mostly happy and healthy (well, except for the custard stand that within walking distance from our house…that cuts into the “healthy” every now and then…but it helps with the “happy”).

@Maya – Thanks so much Maya! My family definitely keeps my spirit flowing…

@Monnica – Thank you Monnica! It’s been a real pleasure to share a peak into our lives…And I’ll tell you what – it’s you guys – everyone who stops over here – who is grand!!

@FitMom – We “usually” do have a great time together (there are moments…but, hey, what family doesn’t have them???). Life is great around here! Thank you Rachel!

@Jennifer – Thank you so much Jennifer, really, thank you! This was a lot of fun, sharing a few glimpses of our life over the last several years. It brings back lots of memories! And reminds me of what really is important in life. When I decided to do this one, I was drawn to picture of people and experiences we’ve shared. And it quickly becomes evident of what truly is important in life – it’s the people that make all the difference (and maybe a camera!!).

@Meleah – Thank you Meleah! It is a big deal – it seems like I’ve written a lot when I see that number!

@Ari – Thank you Ari! And, Ari, I think you’re doing amazing stuff – and you’re an example for all of us on how to plan and build for the future – continue to be a light toward the future!
