“Camping: The art of getting closer to nature while getting farther away from the nearest cold beverage, hot shower and flush toilet.” ~ Author Unknown

I’ll be camping this weekend with my family. Camping is a great way to get out, experience nature, and really get to spend some time with those you love. It also ends up being a pretty reasonable option for getting away for a few days. We’ll be pretty close to home, about an hour away. Gas prices can be an issue, but if you can find something close, then, again, it’s not going to break the bank. Food costs usually aren’t too bad as you bring most of your items along. If you haven’t camped before, then there are some startup costs to deal with (tent, sleeping bags, grill, etc.). But these items can be used many times over.

We camp with a pop up camper, and bought it used several years ago. It has served us well.

As we quickly approach the summer season (here in the United States), let’s all try to find ways to have some fun with those we love. If you can do it at a reasonable cost, then there is an added benefit. I believe that vacation time is important, and am willing to spend a bit extra to make this indulgence memorable.

Have a great weekend!

Lance, thanks for your comment on my blog. When I subscribed to yours, this post was something I could have written! We also went camping over the weekend, including the big kids with their babies. Good family time. My husband and I use our Pontiac Aztec with the camping add-on package to sleep in – off the ground and on an air mattress. A step up from the tent. Pop-ups are cool – we had one when the kids were little. They loved it; to them it was like a playhouse. Last year we had a big 50th birthday party for my husband – a cookout and camping in our back yard for our friends from out of state. We had so much fun we’re turning into an annual event. I’m so glad summer is here!

Haven’t tried camping before. I doubt I want to camp in Singapore, too urbanized for camping. Camping in the rainforest is unthinkable either.
