Dreams For Our World

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” ~ Harriet Tubman

So, I started thinking the other day, after reading by Monica, from Healthy Green Moms, about what kind of dreams I have for making our world a better place.  She wrote an article at 5 Minutes for Going Green about Living Your Green Dream.

I have a dream about a world where many of our different modes of transportation can coexist better together.  Where there are easy ways to cross busy highways.  Where bikes have space to drive.  Where people are excited about alternative modes of transportation.  Where mass transportation is readily available, and people want to use it.

We all have dreams.  Are any of yours about making our world a better place?  Please share them here.  And think about ways we can make our dreams become a reality.  A dream put into action is a powerful thing!

  1. I dream about a world with no sickness, death or sin. The way God intended us to live. A place where we are one with our Earth. Where there are no more people interested in money more than the consequences for making that money. A place where the food we plant is the food we eat and it is also the food that heals us. An Earth with no fear for the unknown because we are protected by His holy spirit.

Thanks for sharing one of your dreams Lanceman! I do have dreams and its to help others find more purpose and meaning in their lives. If everyone had passions to live and experience we would all be able to be more joyful and live happier lives. I dream that the world can have everyone being more caring and compassionate and that people can coexist in a way pleasing to God.

I see more and more people who are enviromentally self conscious. I even have a couple of projects for commuter transport that I’d like to put forth one of these days!

  5. Your dream is a very important one.

My dream is that we reach a place where everyone really begins to understand that when we work together and become a community that takes care of each other, REALLY takes care of each other as family we will end the poverty and class structure that exists in the world we live in. No one that loved their family would let them live like the people living around us do.

I have a very simple dream. I want to start a school where all types of children, rich or poor can receive the same quality education.

I’ve actually got my dream started and it’s exciting to know that I can actually achieve it.

  8. Mama C says:

Thanks so much for your kind comment on my blog a few days ago. It is always nice to hear from you!

I dream of safer roads and transportation too. I also dream something best described by the late poet/musician Rich Mullins:

    I believe there’ll come a time
Lord, I pray it’s not too far off
There’ll be no poverty or crime
There’ll be no greed and we will learn how to love
And children will be safe in their homes
And there’ll be no violence out on the streets
The old will not be left alone
And the strong will learn how to care for the weak
(Rich Mullins, “The Maker of Noses”)

I hope can teach these values to my children, and make my home a haven for my family, and for everyone who comes through our door. Anyhow, that’s what I’m dreaming about for our world.

  9. Annette says:

What a great dream! Imagine how much simpler life would be. We so need that right now. I have lots of dreams. I want there to be education for low income families to teach them there are healthy ways to feed your family on a budget, rather than grabbing a dollar bag of chips and calling it a day. Childhood obesity is so out of control, we need to do more about it from infancy, instead of waiting till a child is picked on at school because of his weight. I also want to see health care for everyone. Parents shouldn’t be afraid to take their kids to the doctor when they are sick because they can barely pay utilities for the month. Adults should have access to low cost insurance as well for general check ups to catch diseases earlier. Other countries have this, what is taking the United States so long? These two issues bother me greatly because I have been in both situations and know so many who suffer.

  10. Stacey says:

I would love a world where we felt good, no great, with where we are, what we have, what we look like, the people we have to love and who love us. If we’re not ok, then I wish for a world where we had the courage to make appropriate change rather than living negatively and complaining about it.

  11. I think cars are a real burden.

I dream of mass transportation being many times more effective than it is now. We will use less oil, there will be less pollution — and it will make people happy.

Sure I want all the other important things, but I like how you bring mass transportation up as I think it’s a very important subject matter.

I love your dream Lance, and I believe this will be a reality in the near future. Commuting is a big issue.

It was so nice to read all these fabulous dreams here on your blog. It was my dream to see people sharing their ideas when I wrote the article for 5 Minutes For Going Green. Thank you so much for the mention and carrying on the discussion here.

As for my dream? I dream that the majority will realize their immense power to transform and heal their lives from any situation. We can and should be independently healthy on all levels, the wisdom is inside. I dream of a world where we are awake, no longer sleeping.
    Thanks so much.

  13. Lanceman says:

First off, I want to thank everyone who has responded so far — you all have amazing and wonderful dreams — and I read these with much hope for the world we live in.

@Brandi — Your dream is one of true life. Thank you for sharing it here! I feel the love you have for others, it shines through in your words!

@Writer Dad — You will get there. Whatever that shift is for you.

@Mike King — Helping others find their purpose is an awesome dream! A life filled with joy is the best way to live. I feel the caring you have for others, and that’s a gift you can share with many!

@Urbane Lion — The environment has become a big topic recently. And that’s a good thing. Good luck with the commuter projects — that sounds like a great way to help our world!

@Wendi Kelly — A wonderful dream about the importance of family. And family, in the larger sense of we are all a family. Here to help and support each other. I feel much love coming from your writing, and a real belief in loving everyone and supporting them in all the ways we can.

@FitMom — You put a smile on my face. I remember visiting relatives in S. Calif a couple of years ago — the traffic! It seemed so laid back when I came back here to the midwest. Safe highways are a very important dream. The world is a great place to see, if we’ll only slow down and enjoy it once in a while.

@Chris — Yes, your dream of a school. That is an awesome dream, and one I know you are working on. And that’s the really cool part, you’re putting your dreams into action! Best of luck, my friend. You’ll have much support.

@Mama C — The poem you shared is a wonderful dream filled with so much hope for this world. And, that you will teach those values to your children, means you are living out your dream as well. Your kids are lucky to have a mother like you!

@Annette — I see much hope for our world when your dream becomes a reality. A world of good. And caring. And taking care of ourselves. What a great world that would be for all of us!

@Stacey — Your dream speaks to me about what really matters in life. And about the importance of changing directions to get the life we desire. And I love that idea.

@Bamboo Forest — Yes, mass transportation is a really underutilized service we have in many cities. Finding ways to better utilize this would be a great thing for our environment.

@Monica — First, I want to thank you for getting this started. After I had read what you wrote, it just kept coming back to me. You’ve brought up a very important topic, and made many people think about what their dreams are for making our world a better place. And that’s just plain awesome! I love your dream, about being awake. Awake to our senses, and what is going on around us. And to understand our health and make positive changes to improve it. What a great way to live our life! And, your welcome. But, the thanks really all belong to you.

  14. Cath Lawson says:

Hi Lance — that’s a great dream. Efficient transportation systems, fewer cars and plenty of cycle paths etc, would be wonderful.

Also, people making ethical buying choices, as opposed to being sucked in by huge marketing campaigns — I think that would be a major improvement.

  15. My dream for making the world a better place is for there to be a cultural shift in our society that puts our Earth first. One example of this shift would the elimination of junk mail. I graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and I was ready to save the world. It would be a great exercise for me to sit down with my personal dreams and determine if/how they are linked to making the world a better place.

  16. Hi Lance,

Green dreams are good. Years ago we had a recycling business (for 6 years). We were proud as we were doing our part. Many people agreed it was a good idea. When the time came for us to relocate, the voices changed. It then became, “yes, you’re doing a good thing, but we don’t want it done in our back yard” (figuratively speaking).

We ended up closing that part of our business, but the dream to do more of the same hasn’t ended.

My dream is for freedom from so many things that get us all so wrapped up in life.…

    Jobs
    Money
    Stress
    Pride
    Selfishness
    Anger
    Bitterness
    Envy
    Sadness
    Hurt
    Pain

My dream is to be in a place where we stop living for today, and start living for tomorrow.

  18. Lanceman says:

@Cath — Ethical buying, when we’re driven my all the marketing and advertising out there — that’s a great dream to try and achieve. Let’s make ethics more important.

@Stacey/CreataBalance — Putting the Earth first, that’s awesome! And a great dream for us today as well as for future generations. Elimination of junk mail is really a waste of lots of paper — which could be used for much greater purpose.

@Barbara — Well, that’s awesome about the business you used to have — doing your part to make the world a better place! Keep the dreams alive!

@Bobbi — There are so many things that hold us captive, and your list is that. Freedom from these things, not only for ourselves, but for everyone, is an awesome dream! It’s so easy to get caught up in these, and not realize the strangle-hold they have on us. I really love this thought…

  19. I would love to have males and females respect and honour each other’s similarities and differences. We are two parts of the whole. Why do some women feel the need to ‘male bash’ when they get together (I walk away from this)? Why do some men feel the need to belittle their wives and girlfriends? In my dream, these behaviours would not exist.

  21. Lanceman says:

@Urban Panther — We are two parts of a whole, but sometimes we don’t treat each other that way, do we? What a great dream where we can all (man and woman) learn to appreciate the qualities the other brings to the table!

@Meleah — I wish you well, Meleah, in finding love in your life. Being able to share yourself with someone else can bring great joy. And, I hope you find your window to the world, wherever that may be.

  22. Marelisa says:

I feel like applauding this entry, as you are SO right about the need for a different paradigm, a different way of looking at things. I, too, am so tired of the friction between our modes of transportation. In many respects, it is this very fact that lies at the root of so much of the stress that affects us and our planet.

The only way out: Dream big. Thank you for this inspiration!

@Marelisa — That is such an awesome dream, what a great way to help those in need!

@Tom Volkar — This sounds wonderful, where we are not restricted by freedoms which we don’t all have.

@Annette — Thanks! We had a great couple of days away!

@Carmi — Thanks. We share a dream, and it’s one that really can make this world a better place! Dream big is right on. And then, find a way to work on making those dreams a reality!

@Mike Foster — That’s a great way to say it! Sometimes I think we just have to discover what those dreams for us are, and really figure out what that means in our life.

@Ariel — Enlightenment is a powerful concept, and one that is an awesome dream. If we were all enlightened, we’d have a much better concept of the true direction we desire for our life to go.

  29. Ellen Wilson says:

I’m with Writer Dad. I think we’re on the verge of a consciousness shift.

If our current world paradigm doesn’t change we will all self destruct.

I wish the world was full of unconditional love, everyone had food and healthcare. And yeah, I suppose we would all have to be enlightened for that to happen.

Ellen — Yes, a shift does seem to be going on, and that’s good. We are becoming more conscious of how what we do affects the world around us. Or, at least I hope we are. Unconditional love would be awesome — if we could even get halfway close, we’d be a much better place.

It is a grand thing to allow those dreams to arise, and welcome them, so that we then share them. Once shared, if we are open, then they can become a collective dream, with many contributing/combining.
At each stage, the dream becomes more powerful and inclusive until it is a dream we can live in.
