“I am a zizzer zazzer zuzz as you can plainly see.” ~ Dr. Seuss

NOTE:  Please read this short intro before watching the videos:

Maybe this should have been titled — “Does Twitter Really Have a Purpose?”  (you be the judge of that…)

It all began nearly a month ago, in an attempt to be both funny and healthy — Josie asking me on Twitter if I’d like a salmon donut.  (I’m sure I did nothing to pre-empt that comment!)

One thing led to another, and pretty soon we’d devised a challenge, complete with video! (what were we thinking, anyway??)

TIMEOUT Who is this Josie character?

I wondered that same thing (okay, maybe I had at least a clue…).  Josie is a friend (granted…a weird friend!), and proud owner of the often funny and sometimes just plain wacky Yum Yucky website.  She’s all about finding balance between fitness and your greedy side (this today probably veers a bit more toward the greedy side).  Honestly, she is a wealth of information when if comes to both healthy eating and fitness.  Healthy and fun — sounds like a winning combination to me!

TIME IN Back to the challenge.

These two videos represent the results of that challenge.  And in the end, the loser was to publicly admit defeat, and make a donation to their local food pantry.

Both videos are included up above.  You be the judge…who won? (and remember the rules — they’re presented in each video)

Is there a definite winner?  It’s not as easy as it looks to tell if there is or not.

We declared it a tie — or better yet — that we’re both winners.  Hey, as Josie can attest to, it all tasted delicious!  So…we both are winners…and we’ll both make a donation to our local food pantries.  It’s a win-win!!

Curious?  To find out Josie’s take on this whole thing (complete with the same videos), check out Greedy for a Cause: Josie vs. Lance (the video!)

Warning:  Do NOT try this at home.  It can be dangerous to your health and well-being.

Final Note:  (Hmmm…maybe venturing into video is the wrong direction for me…)  And Josie — you were a great sport in all of this!  I’m laughing WITH you!

Lance writes stories from his heart, aiming to inspire and motivate, as you align more fully with YOUR true peak. When he’s not here, you can find him hanging out with his family, riding a bike, or just generally acting goofy.   Sign up for the Thoughts from the Treehouse newsletter and get additional inspiration in your email inbox!

    1. I’m glad there REALLY was a cause behind this challenge
    2. I am grateful that you didn’t eat salmon donuts in the contest

I declare Josie the winner of the eating portion and Lance the winner for creative production. Congrats to both of you…you are a bunch of winners!

Fun challenge but I find food contests gross! I love your video talents Lance and the kids…priceless.
Thanks for sharing and being fun on a Friday morning.

  7. I think Lance won the eating contest. He ate just as many donuts and he dove into the whip cream as well.

I loved the video. It looked like a cool project to do with your kids. I could tell they had fun joining in. That’s why blogging is so great. A charity will get a donation of food, there is interactivity between two people who have never met, and I enjoyed watching both videos.

What a huge smile I have on my face right now because of you two! Hi Josie and Lance. You gave my laughter barometer a big lift this morning. Congrats to both of you for daring to do this crazy thing for a good cause. Yes, I think you tied. :-) You know what I love the most about this? 13. Hilarious and also a tad mortifying (although I once ate 10 1/2 mixed Krispy Kreme donuts in four hours… along with some sushi and possibly a Cosmo). Eating contests are fun! Even more fun to watch —- Josie and her family were cracking me up, “Mom, you’re gonna lose!” And then the chest bump between you and your son. I loved every second of it!
Lance, your form was phenomenal; I, too, would have used the mini donuts to scoop up the whipped topping. That mac & cheese, though… Eesh.

OK now that was disgusting! Too FUNNY! I almost threw up for you two! I have to say that I liked the way you combined food by dipping donuts into the cool whip and spreading baby food on them. You get the most creative award Lance. But then I loved how when Josie couldn’t eat all the cool whip, she cleverly stuffed some up her nose. Very nice Josie. With that said, I think the tie is a great choice. Well done! And I hope you are not sending your left over cool whip to the food pantry! LOL!

I always appreciate how you, Lance, are never afraid to make a fool of yourself in front of others. (That word “fool” of course meant in the nicest kind of way — Really — I love people who are willing to stick their neck out.) In fact, it seems like you enjoy and even thrive on doing just that. And it looks like you are not alone in this. I would have to say that it looks like you, Lance, did actually eat more, but I love how Josie persevered until the end even though I could tell she was totally disgusted about the whole thing. Thanks for making me laugh and reminding me to just break out and have fun today! As always, much appreciated. I am glad there was a point to this — donating to the food pantry. I have to admit I kept wondering where the salmon donut was. I’m thinking there should be another contest with those.

  27. Lance says:

@Joanna — Hey Joanna! You’re very gracious, giving us both part of the win! Josie can use all the help she can get, so this is good… And ugh…the thought of salmon donuts gives me the willies (where does she come up with this stuff!?!?).

@Sherri — Thanks Sherri! We do try to have some fun around here, although parts of this bordered on just plain weird. And Josie is loads of awesomeness (despite what I’ve said up above!)…

@Jay — Hahaha!! Yep, anything for the team…

@Lynn — So great to hear, Lynn! Josie’s site is filled with all sorts of fun, so I think you’ll enjoy your visit there too!

@Tess — Okay, sorry to gross you out Tess. In fact, my kids thought it was a bit gross when I put the baby food on the donut. It was really kind of just like dipping sauce, though (okay, maybe that’s a huge stretch!). And good news: I have no plans to do another food contest on video! The kids really got into this (especially my son, if you couldn’t tell!!).

@Janice — Woohoo, we’re both winners! Josie will appreciate this, too! And — shoot! the kids stole the show! I’ll have to try harder next time!!

@Karl — Hey Karl, awesome!! Thanks for the vote!! Just keep it under the lid that I cheated — I used my hands with the whip cream…in fact, both my kids noticed it right away when we viewed the video. Oops! And working (I’m not sure working is the right word here…) with Josie was a lot of fun! In fact, she’s just simply filled with fun-ness!

  28. Lance says:

@Brenda — Hahaha!! And this was hilarious during the taping…and in all the lead up getting it planned with Josie, too! Josie definitely qualifies for kid status!!

@Diantha — Thanks! Our small way to have some fun and give a little something back. We’ll not do it again anytime soon, okay!

@Jan — Hi Jan!! And a tie, we’ll take it, right Josie! It was fun to have family involved, and while you didn’t see them all — everyone was there for the food eating part! And I loved Josie’s daughter attempting to cheer her on as time expired! Thanks for being here!

@Suzen — I promise, there was no nipping of anything before the video was made! Are you saying that this could take a little liquid encouragement? Well, without Josie doing this, there’s no way I would have! So — there you have it — Josie was my encouragement. It was probably her constant “smack talk”!! And that salmon donut…it never did exist…thankfully (I’m getting sick, just thinking of it!).

@Liara — Thanks much, Liara. And this was this became all about having fun — and it really was fun to make — and to go back and forth with Josie on it all!

@Megan — Possibly a cosmo??? Ha!! NOw this is funny, what YOU did!! And I know — I loved the part where her daughter went from cheering her on to giving up all hope — too, too funny! And the chest bump was my son’s idea — hey, I think all of his good ideas are hereditary! And the mac n cheese — as much as I didn’t admit it in the video, the stuff was completely disgusting! Thanks much, Megan, for adding even more smiles to my day!

@Laurie — Hi Laurie! And hey, I think each of us almost threw up on that nasty baby food. And do you know what, baby food on donuts is completely disgusting!! Don’t do it!! We’ll take the tie! And the left over cool whip from here has been properly disposed of! Josie, on the other hand, well…I’m just not sure what she did!

  29. Lance says:

@Yum Yucky — Hey Josie! Have you gotten all the cool whip out of your nose yet?? This was way too much fun! Not that I want to do it again anytime soon…although if you’re so inclined to, have at it! Hey, getting this all setup with you was as much fun as the taping! And…can you believe it…I’d say even more fun than baby food on a donut (although you really should try it…). And guess what? The extra donuts we had here — greedy kids came out of the woodwork for them once I finished! Maybe I can send about three of them your way for a few days…

Way awesome seeing you in video!!

  30. Lance says:

@Jennifer — And I probably don’t want to know the first words that came out of your mouth!! Yikes!! Yep, making a fool of myself, all for a good cause. Wait…we didn’t come up with a cause until right near the end. Does that mean I was willing to do this for no reason at all? What was I thinking, Jennifer?? I DID eat more, you’re right. The only problem was…I cheated…three times. My kids both noticed it right away — and called me out on it — I used my hands with the cool whip. And I didn’t even try to, it’s just a habit for me, I think, to eat “properly”…(okay, this is quickly veering off the deep end, now…). The salmon donut was Josie’s attempt (sad attempt I might add!) at putting a healthy spin on the venerable donut. Now, eating something like that WOULD make me sick! I’m pretty sure there will be no further eating contests! I’m still recovering from this one! Jennifer, so good to see you here today!!

@Evita — No, I think you’re right on — I do need to detox! I’m back to much more fruits and veggies in my diet again now. What you saw on the video — that is NOT typical around here! I promise! The kids had fun making this — and in fact, I had my son put the whole video together since he knew what he was doing. Okay…now I’m off to eat a healthy breakfast today!

@Vered — Thank much Vered! And it was a lot of fun doing this (except for the baby food part!).

@Chris Edgar — Hi Chris! And I guess that means I have to claim them! Hmmm…some days! We all had fun making this and putting it together, great stuff! And great working with Josie through the whole process!

@Jonathan — Thanks much, Jonathan! This was a lot of fun to do with Josie, and with my kids! Everyone really got into it! That said, there are NO plans to do another…we’ll end our food eating contest on this note!

@Audra — Hi Audra! And you know what? I almost lost it when I put the baby food on the donut too. That was so disgusting (although I couldn’t show it in the video and give Josie some level of satisfaction!). Woohoo! I’m the winner!! I’m doing the happy dance — which is probably a good thing — so I can burn off some of these calories! The kids really got into this as well. And it was Jakob’s idea to do the chest bump — which was fun! The whole stunt double thing — was too funny — Bekah kept saying she didn’t think she looked like Josie. I guess that’s because Josie had a tank top on and not a sweatshirt…

@Stacey Shipman — Ha!! Thanks much Stacey! Chariots of Fire seemed like a great choice, we thought! The chest bump was Jakob’s idea (he gets his creativity from ME!!)(don’t tell Lora…). And just working with Josie on this was a bunch of fun. She’s kind of crazy, though — eating the cool whip through her nose!! Stacey, thanks again for everything! It’s so good having you here…

  31. Lance says:

@Lisa — Hi Lisa! So, the baby food — we wanted something that would border on disgusting. I think we ended up going WAY over that border! That stuff was completely nasty! And let’s go with your first part — that I won! Although I used my hands when I dipped the donuts (I’m a rule-breaker!). Anyway, lots of fun, and glad to bring a few laugh today!

@Gina — Josie gets to wear that crown for a reason! It was great competing against this fine contestant — and very cool of her to eat the cool whip even after the time was up! Thanks for stopping by here!

@Julie — Ha! Yes, there was definitely some YUK going on here, for both of us! And we have NO plans to do this again (what were we thinking in the first place anyway??). Although it was loads of fun competing together! And Josie was a good sport and great competitor! Now…I’m off to eat tons of veggies (that sounds better, right Julie!).

@Katie West– Weird stuff? Where? Did I miss it? Oh, you’re talking about Josie — yep she definitely qualifies as weird!! Here’s a little secret for you (because you never know when it might come in handy) — donuts with baby food on them are NOT tasty at all! Whatever the urge is that hits you, DON’T do it!! And I am not falling for that, Katie — I know what you’re trying to do — and there will be NO videos with marshmallows! Now…if you’re so inclined to create such masterpieces, I will surely watch! Now get out there and laugh!! (you probably are already “out there”…)

@South Beach Steve — Thanks much for stopping by today Steve! This was a whole bunch of fun with Josie, she’s awesome!

@Jenny Mannion — Hi Jenny! Yay, we’re both winners!! And…I’ve heard that before about my son — why can’t I see it??? And Jenny, that baby food on the donut was even worse than it looked in the video — nastiness to the max! I tried to cover it up, though.…so Josie would think I actually liked it. I don’t think there’s any way to like that flavor of baby food, though!! Thanks so much for stopping by Jenny, it’s always so good to see you. And sending love right back your way…

@Angelia — HA HA HA!! Twitter has a SCARY purpose based on this!! And it was a lot of fun to involve my family. And I can just tell by the video from Josie, that her family really got into it too (just listen to her daughter!!). And you know what, Angelia — that baby food just about put me over the edge. And I highly don’t recommend it on donuts (or for that matter, from a spoon either!)!!

@Davina — Hi Davina! That baby mac n cheese seems to be a real sticking point! And I personally know why — that stuff is down right nasty! I faked it with the baby food — any look I gave that appeared as though I liked the stuff — was purely for the video only! That was some of the most disgusting stuff I’ve ever tasted. And then I couldn’t just stop after one bite — that little juar seemed bottomless! And…it’s no better (in fact, it’s worse) on donuts. Note: Don’t ever spread baby food on donuts!!

@Natalia — Hi Natalia! It’s great to see you! Encore? Are you CRAZY!!!!!

@Angelia — Hi Angelia! What kind of crazy idea are you drumming up here, anyway??? Oh wait, I’ve got a good one — how about YOU do the food off, and Josie and I will pick the foods! I promise everything will be yummy.…(he crosses his fingers…)

@TB–Milwaukee — Mac n cheese just sounded so yummy! I tried to feed it to the cat, and he ran away. He runs away from apples too (and I love apples!), so I figured…we’re good here! Okay — that’s a complete lie. We picked what we thought might be a really bad baby food to eat…in this case I think we went a bit beyond bad! Salmon on that donut would have been MUCH better!

@Jodi — Hi Jodi! Ha!! Parts of this were just plain painful to do! Most of it, though, was a complete blast — and it was lots of fun working with Josie on it all!

@Jannie — Hmmm.…maybe I should make that whipped topping goatee permanent. I could just carry Cool whip with me at all time, and if it ever started to *ahem* disappear, I could just reapply. Wait? Cool Whip is starting to sound way too much like make up!! And that time thing…well, I was out searching for time a few months back, and right there was Twitter. Twitter told me she (is twitter a girl??) could lead me there. We’ve been on this fantastic journey in search of time. And look what I found along the way — Josie! She told me — “it’s time to eat” — aha! I’d found time!!!

Hi lance — you have (have!) to lose on two counts — Josie is prettier, and your eating habits are terrible! I hope your kids weren’t watching??? I’m sure enjoyment of the food you were stuffing in counts as a mark — not slumped on the table elbows never moving??!! so another plus to Josie!

Sorry moved allegiances for this .. great fun and thanks for another laugh at life today — I’ll be able to tell my mother of 88, and my uncle of 87 .. and hopefully give them a laugh too!

Thanks — brilliant idea .. I must remember to be very careful on Twitter .. I don’t want the twitterings to inspect my eating habits .. I’d be put out with the dog probably ..

Have a great week — you must have had fun making it!! & great the kids were included ..

    Cheers — Hilary Melton-Butcher

@Mimi — Ha! Yep, we definitely got a bit crazy! And it was so much fun (well, except the baby food part!). Thanks much! And we’ll take the tie!!

@Hilary — Agreed (Josie is way prettier!). Agreed (I have bad eating habits!). And…uh oh, yes my kids were all watching! Yikes! So — I’ll give Josie the points for both looks and proper eating technique, and for following the rules. But who ate more??? Hmmm.…I must get credit for something!! This was a blast to do — and so fun to go back and forth with Josie on who would be the ultimate champion!

  46. LOL! This is so funny! Thanks for willingly sharing this funny video with us!
