Preface: Random Acts of Kick Arse is a movement to bring more of {monthly theme} into our lives, and the lives of those around us.
December Theme: Wackiness. Find ways to incorporate a bit of wackiness into the world.
The Results: Wacky. Hmmm.…this seemed easy, and then…this seemed really challenging. I kept over-thinking it. Racking my brain, how could I incorporate a bit of extra wackiness into life.
Nothing.
And then (does it pay to have wacky friends?), Carla from MizFit was hosting a Virtual Talent Show, and invited me to participate. The only thing — what talent did I have? And…holiday travel plans would be putting us on the road that day.
Then, as serendipity would have it, two things happened. Another wacky friend, Josie, suggested I try to top her cheesecake flavored water talent stunt. And, a major Wisconsin snowstorm changed our travel plans for Christmas. And so, I present to you, nothing with any talent behind it, although I do think it just may qualify as a bit wacky:
We finished off the holiday season with a family picture, and everyone showing that wacky is a bit of a family tradition around here:
So there you have it. A little bit of wackiness from here in the jungle…
Once I stopped trying so hard to be a little bit wacky, what I found was that it just sort of happened. The lesson here for me is that it’s really about being ourselves, and what might appear normal to one person, can be a little skewed (or wacky!) to the next person. And that’s okay. In fact, that is better than okay — that’s great! It’s great because, we are all unique. And letting that uniqueness shine — be it wacky, or goofy, or serious, or odd, or funny, or whatever it happens to be — that is the true YOU shining through. And nothing is better than that!

What is Random Acts of Kick Arse (RAOKA)? With the idea that there are so many ways we can do small things to change the world for good, Sami, from Life, Laughs, and Lemmings took an idea she had and created this movement. The movement: A new theme to focus on each month, bringing a little more good to the world. The movement started in October 2009, with a core group of participants:

My friend Tim used to make “wacky” drinks for his friends’ kids. Pickle juice mixed with grape juice, etc. That drink of yours looked just yummy.

You must have been so wacky when you were a kid that it got knocked right out of you and now you have to work hard to get it right back.

@Lori — I’ll tell you, Lori, it was the chunks in that drink that were THE WORST! Otherwise, it was downright tasty! (you believe me, right???) And isn’t that interesting how we’ll sometimes try so hard to find something (like the “wacky” of life), and then when we stop trying so hard, there it is. And listening to my son…ha! He was getting grossed out by the whole thing, and loving it at the same time! It’s great to be kickin’ arse with you! And with our awesome geniousness…Sami!!
@Jannie — Well…your French is better than mine (that’s not too difficult though!). Speaking of French, they make a mean mustard…very tasty in new-fangled smoothies. I did have a bit of a cold…and guess what? That drink cured me right up, real good! I think I might just be able to market this! And, Jannie…so you are saying that wackiness just comes naturally…like it runs in your family…like your father is…well, you don’t fall far from the apple tree, do you! @Trish — Hey Trish! Well…that concoction was delicious! I think I just might be able to sell this as a post-workout shake enhancer! I’m looking for a few testers to try this out before I take it nationwide. Any interest? They come to your house free of charge, and all I ask is for your honest feedback (as long as that feedback is what I want to hear!).
@Stacey Shipman — Hmmm.…and I just don’t understand why you would think that was gross, Stacey? Ha!! Well, that combo was courtesy of my son…who rifled through our cabinets and refrigerator (until I made him stop!). Okay, and that moment at the end…that was purely to stop the taping! I swear, there was no other reason!! And there was some splashing going on in the blender…weird splashing… I know this is probably going to come as a surprise, but I haven’t made another batch of this since that fateful taping (shocked, aren’t you!).

@Sami — A couple of words dear Sami: Yum…delicious…tasty…liquid candy! Fish sauce? Sami, YOU are scaring me! This tasted sooooo good, and that fish sauce…well…I hate to say it, but…EWWWW! That would have been a little too “over the top” wacky for me. You, though, I’m sure could do that with amazing grace! Right back atcha, wacky-crazy friend…you be rockin’ the wacky world today and always!
@Suzen — Hi Suzen. Recovered??? So…you think this “stuff” was bad, too! Wow, that seems to be a consensus around here! And I thought it tasted delicious! So, wacky and insane (I think my son thought that too!!). Yep, now my wife won’t let me make dinner (although I haven’t figured out how to get out of clean up yet…I’ll have to keep working on that!!). I think that you should have used spicy brown mustard instead of yellow and more cherries!

@Audra — Audra! Brave…or maybe…a few brain cells short of a full load! The question has certainly posed itself in my household by family members. For protection of the innocent (would that be me???), I refuse to tell you what they said. Here’s to all of us really letting our true colors shine!
@Karl — Well…you know, I wish we could have used some movie magic to make that drink disappear. No such luck, though. What really made the drink nasty were the chunks in there (maybe I should have blended it a bit longer!). And yes, that was my son behind the camera (and also the troublemaker who chose all the ingredients!) — child #3! Warning: It’s that third child that can put you over the edge (…and I think the video proves that!!!).
@Sara — I love the theme of wackiness too! When I got beyond really “trying” to be wacky, it just sort of happened naturally. That was my youngest son behind the camera, and he WAS enjoying this…a little too much!! Next time, he’s joining me in drinking these concoctions (…or maybe we should just skip making these crazy things!). And to your question of how RAOKA works: “Wacky” was the theme for December — so we were to be/do/see wacky in December and then report on it in early January. For January, the theme is “Gratitude”, and we’ll report on that in early February. Feel free to join in — Sami is your woman!

Whoa! That was WACKY. Flour? Ew!
I love the new theme. It seems to represent a large number of your readers. LOL. I am typing this with no contacts or glasses. So, I can’t really see the screen. Just kinda blurs, but if I squint I can almost make it out. It’s a long story, but I had to take some Benadryl last night and couldn’t drive home. So this is definitely making me feel a little wacky! No telling how my comment will come out.
