RAOKA: Wackiness

RAOKA

Wackiness

“I also found child’s play — stuff that was not considered serious, but goofy — was the stuff I liked to do, so I still do it as an adult.” ~ Matt Groening

Preface:  Random Acts of Kick Arse is a movement to bring more of {monthly theme} into our lives, and the lives of those around us.

December Theme:  Wackiness.  Find ways to incorporate a bit of wackiness into the world.

The Results:  Wacky.  Hmmm.…this seemed easy, and then…this seemed really challenging.  I kept over-thinking it.  Racking my brain, how could I incorporate a bit of extra wackiness into life.

Nothing.

And then (does it pay to have wacky friends?), Carla from MizFit was hosting a Virtual Talent Show, and invited me to participate.  The only thing — what talent did I have?  And…holiday travel plans would be putting us on the road that day.

Then, as serendipity would have it, two things happened.  Another wacky friend, Josie, suggested I try to top her cheesecake flavored water talent stunt.  And, a major Wisconsin snowstorm changed our travel plans for Christmas.  And so, I present to you, nothing with any talent behind it, although I do think it just may qualify as a bit wacky:

We finished off the holiday season with a family picture, and everyone showing that wacky is a bit of a family tradition around here:

christmas2009

So there you have it.  A little bit of wackiness from here in the jungle…

Once I stopped trying so hard to be a little bit wacky, what I found was that it just sort of happened.  The lesson here for me is that it’s really about being ourselves, and what might appear normal to one person, can be a little skewed (or wacky!) to the next person.  And that’s okay.  In fact, that is better than okay — that’s great!  It’s great because, we are all unique.  And letting that uniqueness shine — be it wacky, or goofy, or serious, or odd, or funny, or whatever it happens to be — that is the true YOU shining through.  And nothing is better than that!

Be YOU!  Wackiness and all…

What is Random Acts of Kick Arse (RAOKA)?  With the idea that there are so many ways we can do small things to change the world for good, Sami, from Life, Laughs, and Lemmings took an idea she had and created this movement.  The movement:  A new theme to focus on each month, bringing a little more good to the world.  The movement started in October 2009, with a core group of participants:

Melissa from Operation NICE
Lori from Jane Be Nimble
Dani from Positively Present
Brandi from Joy Rebel
Zeenat from Positive Provocations
Sami from Life, Laughs, and Lemmings

Each month a topic will be chosen to focus on, and then at the start of the next month, the participants will write about their experiences from the previous month.

Interested in joining the movement?  Contact Sami for details.

January Theme:  Gratitude (as chosen by Melissa from Operation Nice)

Dude, that is some SERIOUS wacky!!! OH MAN, I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU DRANK THAT!!!

I love your expressions of wacky, Lance. And I really loved the topic you chose for December. I can’t agree more with your final statement, too. Once I stopped trying to find wacky, notions of wacky appeared all around me, like magic. :)

Thanks for this, Lance, I loved every second! It was GREAT to hear your son laughing on the vid — I think he made me laugh more than anything! ha

Have a great day, Lance, and here’s to another great RAOKA month!
Sami, you are genious! (I know you’ll be seeing my comment soon.)

I put up a R.A.O.K.A. wacky post today too, but I guess I’ll get in officially next month! (New at this venture!)

  22. Lance says:

@Lori — I’ll tell you, Lori, it was the chunks in that drink that were THE WORST! Otherwise, it was downright tasty! (you believe me, right???) And isn’t that interesting how we’ll sometimes try so hard to find something (like the “wacky” of life), and then when we stop trying so hard, there it is. And listening to my son…ha! He was getting grossed out by the whole thing, and loving it at the same time! It’s great to be kickin’ arse with you! And with our awesome geniousness…Sami!!

@Jannie — Well…your French is better than mine (that’s not too difficult though!). Speaking of French, they make a mean mustard…very tasty in new-fangled smoothies. I did have a bit of a cold…and guess what? That drink cured me right up, real good! I think I might just be able to market this! And, Jannie…so you are saying that wackiness just comes naturally…like it runs in your family…like your father is…well, you don’t fall far from the apple tree, do you! (for the record: I love that quality in YOU!). Hey, it’s great to have you on board the RAOKA craziness! Cheers! I clink glasses with you and drink down some super wonderful!

@Trish — Hey Trish! Well…that concoction was delicious! I think I just might be able to sell this as a post-workout shake enhancer! I’m looking for a few testers to try this out before I take it nationwide. Any interest? They come to your house free of charge, and all I ask is for your honest feedback (as long as that feedback is what I want to hear!).

@Stacey Shipman — Hmmm.…and I just don’t understand why you would think that was gross, Stacey? Ha!! Well, that combo was courtesy of my son…who rifled through our cabinets and refrigerator (until I made him stop!). Okay, and that moment at the end…that was purely to stop the taping! I swear, there was no other reason!! And there was some splashing going on in the blender…weird splashing… I know this is probably going to come as a surprise, but I haven’t made another batch of this since that fateful taping (shocked, aren’t you!).

@Lynn — What?? So, you are saying you wouldn’t drink this? Really, it was quite yummy! I really think I’m onto something here!

@Hulbert — Hi Hulbert! Glad to have you here today…

@Lisa — Hey Lisa! Thanks, the photo was a lot of fun, and … maybe not too far off from reality…hmmm…what does that say, anyway!!

@Positively Present — Hey Dani! This was a fun month…especially when I quit “trying” to find wacky, and just let it happen.

@Sami — A couple of words dear Sami: Yum…delicious…tasty…liquid candy! Fish sauce? Sami, YOU are scaring me! This tasted sooooo good, and that fish sauce…well…I hate to say it, but…EWWWW! That would have been a little too “over the top” wacky for me. You, though, I’m sure could do that with amazing grace! Right back atcha, wacky-crazy friend…you be rockin’ the wacky world today and always!

@Suzen — Hi Suzen. Recovered??? So…you think this “stuff” was bad, too! Wow, that seems to be a consensus around here! And I thought it tasted delicious! So, wacky and insane (I think my son thought that too!!). Yep, now my wife won’t let me make dinner (although I haven’t figured out how to get out of clean up yet…I’ll have to keep working on that!!). Gratitude…hmmm…I’m grateful today for new discoveries in amazing drinks!! And, come on over Suzen, join us for dinner…I’ll mix something up (while my wife isn’t looking…).

@Erin — It was a wonderful drink, Erin…can’t you tell by my expression! And…I don’t know why I couldn’t get my son to drink it…he picked all the ingredients out, after all! I’m sure he’ll join me next time (wait, what am I saying?? A next time???).

@Marelisa — This was a seriously delicious drink! It was!! You must believe me, don’t you???? And I’m ready to make this year an amazing one…and I know you are too! Mare, here’s to all sorts of awesome as you head into the new year!

@Natalia — Ha!!! Would you believe me if I said I loved it, too??? Wow! Kids, you know…how do they dream this stuff up??

@Hilary — Hi Hilary. I AM alive! In fact, I think you might really like this drink (really, it was sooo goood!). (what’s that I sense…disbelief??) And my wife…well, she completely stayed away from this “drink”…I don’t know why, though? Ha!!

  25. Oh, Lance, what I forgot to mention above, I loved hearing your son’s reaction to you making and drinking his wicked concoction! :) I think that you should have used spicy brown mustard instead of yellow and more cherries! :) Just a thought for next time.…there is going to be a next time, right? :)

@Tim — Hi Tim! My son, who “chose” all the ingredients…he used to sometimes mix soda’s at a restaurant, too. And there’s no way I’d drink that! This drink, though…dare I say YUM! Tabasco, hmmm??? Maybe next time!! And thanks on the photo, that one came together really easy!

@Marisa — Hey wacky Marisa!! Rock on, friend!

@J.D. Meier — There you go, J.D.!! I think you have a real desire…just to see…how good this really tastes! And your Mom is wise! You never know, until you try it (although the chunkiness…well, that was a little hard to swallow…).

@Zeenat — Hey Zeenat! I take no credit for choosing the wacky choice of ingredients…that was all my son!! So, why didn’t he join me then, anyway??? Ha!! And yes…thanks for suggesting the picture was a bit on the wacky side…a great addition here (and it shows that I’m not the only wacky one at my house!)!!

@Davina — So, what I’m hearing you say, Davina…is that if I make this again AND add your choice of ingredients to this — you are in!! Awesome!! You’ll love it!!

@LisaNewton — Would you believe me if I told you it tasted really, really good?? Delicious, in fact!! And I agree…addding a bit of wackiness to our lives is a great way to have some fun, stay young, and be healthy! Okay…I’m off to get a drink (I think I’ll just have plain ol’ coffee this time…).

@Wilma — Reliving my childhood, perhaps??? Hmmm.… And then…being a “respectable” adult again, that might be kind of difficult now, huh! Am I showing my “true colors”? Well…I DON’T drink this craziness every day (you do believe me, right Wilma??) and I dress normally (usually…). Maybe I’ll need an alter ego? Or a pen name? Or change my identity?? Or, I suppose I can just live with this wackiness…the real me??

And…I never would have created this video, had you not had the brilliant idea to host a virtual talent show (lovely talent I have, huh????). So…I’m sending that love right back atcha!! You are amazing!!!

  36. Lance says:

@Hermann — Hey Hermann! No, no Grey Poupon. I’m missing out, I know. We should really get together someday…you can bring the Poupon (the Grey variety) and I’ll bring the rest of the wonderful ingredients. Good times, for sure. Just don’t tell Jannie or Blue Bunny, they might feel left out of our amazing drinks…

@Audra — Audra! Brave…or maybe…a few brain cells short of a full load! The question has certainly posed itself in my household by family members. For protection of the innocent (would that be me???), I refuse to tell you what they said. Here’s to all of us really letting our true colors shine!

@Karl — Well…you know, I wish we could have used some movie magic to make that drink disappear. No such luck, though. What really made the drink nasty were the chunks in there (maybe I should have blended it a bit longer!). And yes, that was my son behind the camera (and also the troublemaker who chose all the ingredients!) — child #3! Warning: It’s that third child that can put you over the edge (…and I think the video proves that!!!).

@Sara — I love the theme of wackiness too! When I got beyond really “trying” to be wacky, it just sort of happened naturally. That was my youngest son behind the camera, and he WAS enjoying this…a little too much!! Next time, he’s joining me in drinking these concoctions (…or maybe we should just skip making these crazy things!). And to your question of how RAOKA works: “Wacky” was the theme for December — so we were to be/do/see wacky in December and then report on it in early January. For January, the theme is “Gratitude”, and we’ll report on that in early February. Feel free to join in — Sami is your woman!

@Hayden — Hey!!! Hayden, you are giving me hope here! Maybe the world is almost ready for this new-fangled drink! Tell me that’s what you meant!! I’m ready to start mass-producing! (and…you are super sweet!) (way, way, way, way more so than that drink was…)

@Ivan8!3 — Ha!! Let me just say…there was not going be any re-takes on this! It was one shot and that’s it. Great to have you here, Mr. Wacky!!

Hermann? Well…there’s this goofy someone around here known as Jannie… She speaks “shinglemeister”…and she sings!

    Hey Lance!!
Whoa! That was WACKY. Flour? Ew!

I love the new theme. It seems to represent a large number of your readers. LOL. I am typing this with no contacts or glasses. So, I can’t really see the screen. Just kinda blurs, but if I squint I can almost make it out. It’s a long story, but I had to take some Benadryl last night and couldn’t drive home. So this is definitely making me feel a little wacky! No telling how my comment will come out. :-)

As always, I look forward to your month and what you will come up with.

    Cheers!

@Angelia — Hi Angelia! Umm…yeah.…ewww… (can I pour you a glass??) And your comment…well, I would say it came out much better than that drink from the blender (is that really saying anything, though??). I hope you are feeling better. And I love the GRATITUDE theme too…as in I’m grateful I won’t be drinking that concoction again anytime soon!

@Foodie McBody — Thanks much!! And I DID see you dogs! Very talented (in fact…I would venture to say your dogs are more talented that I am!!!).
