Lance — Today is a day that I needed to read this post. They say that even forcing a smile on your face can actually elicit some positive emotion.

It comes down to that very simple point you made. Our time is limited — do you want to be sad or happy? I’ll go with the latter.

Smiling gets you the most bang for your buck. It’s simple and easy, and can create some truly amazing outcomes.

I love how you weave quotes into your articles! Great stuff.

Wow Lance, a great topic with a ton of smiles added through the comments. I had to add mine as well. A point about smiles is how contagious they are and it fits with your point that it's tough to be mad or unhappy while smiling. Hi Kevin — That’s an excellent point — what to one culture might be a gesture of love or acceptance — to another culture that can mean an entirely different thing. Thank you for pointing this out. In this case, here in the United States — the smile is looked upon very positively. When in other countries, it’s important to understand the culture.

In principle, I couldn't agree more with your article and many of the comments. Just a note for those travelling, in some parts of the world you may get an unexpected reaction from strangers if you smile at them in public.
