Sunday Thought For The Day

South Africa, Johannesburg: Love in the air
Creative Commons License photo credit: kool_skatkat

“I have never met a person whose greatest need was anything other than real, unconditional love. You can find it in a simple act of kindness toward someone who needs help. There is no mistaking love. You feel it in your heart. It is the common fiber of life, the flame of that heats our soul, energizes our spirit and supplies passion to our lives. It is our connection to God and to each other.” ~ Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

A special celebration of love for all, and as we celebrate Mother’s Day, may all mother’s in our world feel that love and appreciation!

Lance writes stories from his heart, aiming to inspire and motivate, as you align more fully with YOUR true peak. When he’s not here, you can find him hanging out with his family, riding a bike, or just generally acting goofy.   Sign up for the Thoughts from the Treehouse newsletter and get additional inspiration in your email inbox!

Just love it Lance, the photo exudes love and the words I found at the photo source are awesome too “Love is in the air or are those above remind us to love, but how many even noticed?“
How true is what Elizabeth says– all anyone needs is true unconditional love, to ourselves too:) often that is the toughest one to love unconditionally.
Sending love to all everyone on this mothers day

When you experience the negativity and emotional destruction of conditional love it can be a struggle to recognise, accept, or trust unconditional love when it comes your way.
But boy, when it does, it really truly is a beautiful, uplifting, enriching experience.
And one you want to share with others.
I love your Sunday thoughts for the day, thank you.
P.s is it Mothers Day where you are? In Britain we had Mothers Day in March.

Lance, awesome photo! Breathtaking. Thank you for sharing and thank you for your comment on my blog. Blessings.

  5. Joy Tanksley says:

What a beautiful quote, Lance. And I think it’s true — at the core of everything we’re striving for is a desire for pure love.

The idea of unconditional love definitely makes me recall special moments with my mom — the way she’s supported my dreams, believed in me, and traded slushie flavors with me when we discvoered she picked the better flavor (and then claimed to like my flavor better so I could keep the good one).

    :)

    Hi Lance,
After a week of internetlessness I am back on time for your Sunday thought. And a deep one it is again.
Love is the secret to everything I think. It is all we have to give and it is all we crave. And it is free. And it does good, makes people happy. And what greater thing than happiness!?
Thanks for sending your continuous love through the waves of the wide internet ocean where we are all little drops bobbing along :-)
Have a happy loving week. We’re off on holidays from Thursday onwards. A weekend with the camper in France and then off for a week to Martinique — wooohoo!

  10. Julie says:

Elisabeth is one of my favorites, Lance, and to think I was too shy to meet her when I had the chance. What a waste on my part. And that brings me to my first thought about her quote: that we allow our own fears (even the ones we aren’t consciously aware of) prevent us from feeling the love within—and we must feel it in order to give it. My second thought is that we are remiss every time we aren’t extending our love to everything in life, because it’s not just people that create our world; it’s the animals and circumstances and Nature and Earth and ideas… EveryTHING contributes to life just as everyONE does, so it’s silly to withhold our love from one part while showering another part with all we can muster. It’s this practice, I believe, that causes us to feel unbalanced, off kilter, out of step, or as if we’re missing something. It’s as Elisabeth says: “it’s the common fiber of life.” Beautiful quote, Lance, and your cloud photo, reminding me of a heart or a dove, is a beautiful complement. Wishing you a blessedly beautiful day of family, today. xoxox ~ Julie

  21. Hilda says:

Love” it Lance! ;-) Love the quote, love the pic, and I also love Julie’s comment — I think she hit the nail on the head. Fear is what keeps us from true, unconditional love. And I believe that any love that isn’t unconditional isn’t love at all. Fear makes us attach conditions to love, and fear is its opposite. But fear is so prevalent, it takes alot of awareness to stay focussed on love. But a visit to your blog always helps!! :-)

You could not have found a more fitting quote Lance; “I have never met a person whose greatest need was anything other than real, unconditional love. ” to celebrate mothers day with.
THAT is what really counts as a mother, giving unconditional love is all that counts. Thanks Lance, because that is what I want to celebrate on mothers day, unconditional love for everybody. You and everybody else here have a love filled day with your family, may that be what your mother reminds you of. xox Wilma

  27. Lance says:

@Suzie — Hi Suzie! I love the light shining around the “heart” cloud — so filled with love! And — that is a deep thought from the photo source — do we really notice the love that is around us?? Ahh…loving ourselves unconditionally…not always easy. And if we can, what a beautiful place, also for us to go out in love from! Much love to you, Suzie!

@Chania Girl — Carla. You shine all your beauty here — the grand love you share AND in all the kindness you show…always. So, just know that I see this all in you, very beautifully shining through. (and I’m a lucky guy to know you, and call you friend.…)

@aclambert — Yes, today is Mother’s Day in the U.S. Hmmm…and see, I’m learning as I read here — that it’s not a worldwide celebration today. Thank you for sharing that. And — unconditional love: experiencing that, really experiencing it.…what a beautiful experience.

@Just Be Real — Thanks so much for visiting! Yes, I LOVE that photo, especially the light shining in it!

@Joy Tanksley — Hi Joy. I believe very much that LOVE is something we all deeply want. Mom’s can definitely have that special unconditional love for their children — wanting only to see them happy. And when that happens, how wonderful it is! And your Mom sounds wonderful!!! I happen to think my Mom is way special too!! (and here’s to yummy flavors for slushies!!!)

@Jeanne — Thanks so much for your beautiful support!

@Mimi — Hi Miranda. You know what…I think you are an amazing MOM!! It’s always so good to have you here (so — woohoo — to being back on the Internet!!) I think so too — LOVE is it!! Have an amazing time away on holiday! It sounds wonderful!!!!

  28. I think this article is right on time, especially with it being mothers day. A there’s nothing like a Mother’s love. It is perhaps the most unconditional love.

  29. Lance says:

@Jannie — Hi Jannie!!! Beatle on!! You are shiny happy loving LOVE!!

@Jules — Hi Jules! And — thank you!

@Julie — Hi Julie. So — we all have those moments where we might do things a bit differently, were the opportunity presented again. And that’s okay — especially as I think about this — and just see where you are today. Julie, you exhibit love in such a beautiful way. And it really is about EVERYTHING. I’m thinking right now about you…and chipmunks! And love! And how life is beautifully connected. Julie, thank you for sharing this, for being here, and for being in my life. I am blessed to call you a dear friend.…

@Colleen — Thanks Colleen, I’ll pass that on!! And…happy Mother’s day to YOU!!!

@Jody — Hi Jody!! You bring a wonderfully huge smile to my face today! (thank YOU!)

@Shannon — Shannon…I am not surprised that you love “love”! It shines from you! Happy Mother’s day to YOU, sweet friend!

@Evita — Hi Evita!! The photo for this one was a real challenge for me. I kept thinking I had something that I really loved, and then I wasn’t sure. This one particularly touched me — so your words are very meaningful. So…how did we make today special for Lora?? We let her watch my oldest son and I compete in a mud run!! (it REALLY was fun!!!) (for her too!!) (although she wouldn’t hug me after the race!) (nor would my Mom, who was there to watch, too!!)

    Hello Lance,

Beautiful thought on Mothers Day. Yes, unconditional love is ‘true love’ and this is what makes us successful being a better husband, wife, mother or sister/brothers. This is only way to reach GOD as well. God is in all of us and we love unconditionally that is we are loving GOD.

@Darren — Hi Darren. So awesome that you and your wife have taken the time to rediscover each other! And when that involves unconditional love…wow!!! Pretty wonderful stuff!

@Lori — Hi Lori! Unconditional love. Sweet and beautiful, isn’t it. And just so you know — anytime there’s a visit here from you…that always adds warmth and beauty to my life! Lori, I am so honored to call you a sweet and caring friend.

@Farnoosh — Hi Farnoosh! Mom’s certainly are very wonderful (and so often embody what LOVE is!). And…Farnoosh — in the short time I’ve known you, I see that shining in you, too. And know that I have been touched beautifully by the love you so wonderfully share!

@Zeenat — Hi Zeenat. The motherly love that shines from you is so beautiful. Your little bundle of joy in your life is so lucky to have you! And speaking of kids.…they have a way of being LOVE, themselves. It’s like it is a part of them that just so easily is shared. If we can continue to do that as adults, just imagine how much more LOVE our world would experience! Much love to you, Zeenat…and a very happy Mother’s Day to you, as well…

@Hilda — Hi Hilda!! Fear. Yes, that can definitely hold us back from living LOVE fully. I know I have been there (and probably pretty recently, too). And — this idea that love with conditions really isn’t love.…wow, that is really such a powerful thought. And as I think about that more deeply, I can only agree. Love with conditions doesn’t sound much like love at all. Hilda, thank you, very deeply, for this thought. And much love to you, dear friend.…

    Lance,
What a way to end my perfect mother’s day, with this cool picture and quote. Yes, I always believe that all we ever want is to be deeply and intimately known with unconditional love. Yet we spend a lot of time fighting the people that do want to know the true us (and love us anyway!) instead of embracing the best of what they offer. We do need to remember, that we all want the same thing; that peaceful loving feeling.

  34. Lance says:

@Jarrod — Hi Jarrod! The LOVE theme just felt so right to celebrate Mother’s Day here today. Yes, mom’s might just be the closest thing here on earth to real unconditional love.

@Cheryl — Hi Cheryl!! God. What a beautiful thought! I believe that very much, too — that God is within each of us…and perhaps that is part of our deep need for love — and for maybe an even closer connection to the God in us all…

@Evelyn — Hi Evelyn!! I love how you have drawn upon ENERGY in relation to love. There is an energy about love, and when it touches our soul — that’s a wonderful thing! Happy Mother’s Day, Evelyn! And I just want you to know that I see LOVE as something you shine so beautifully. Love always, dear friend…

@Audra — Hi Audra. This past week, I did a reflection at a healing service at our church. And — this is exactly what I focused on. The deep need we all have for love — and the healing that comes when we can be fully open in sharing that love, and receiving it as well. That really is a peaceful loving feeling. Thank you Lance! The love was definitely felt and in part to your incredible kindness and outpouring of it. It really does get passed on, and lifted up. Thank you for always sharing the love. And thank you for the incredible quote that we should always keep close to our heart.

Hi Lance .. what a wonderful quote — we all need compassion and understanding and that unconditional love that some give to all human beings .. long may it be all of us giving it. We need to provide to others what they need, not what we think they need .. in the form of love.

Thanks — & I might get to read her book/s this summer .. if we get a summer! Great post for your Sunday Thought for the Day .. Hilary

Dearest Lance, I am running so behind here. Just getting around to some commenting and wanted to stop in and see you. This quote brings me great peace. It washed over me as core essential truth. It’s WHO we are at our core. It’s what, I believe, we are made of. It is what I see in everyone I meet. I see only love.

I don’t always have words of concepts to put on my blog, in fact I rarely do, but I can love. That is the easiest thing in the world. In truth it is really the only thing that come totally easily to me. If I have to “think” about things I am drained, but if I can just love people, reach out to them even if they rebuff me that is okay. I reach out freely with no strings or need for “return”. I love simply because I can’t possibly contain all the love I am given from this great universe (God, Spirit, the Creator, whatever we want to call IT). The love is so abundant that it MUST be shared.

This line is one I REALLY relate to: ” It (love) is our connection to God and to each other.” When I came out of the rainforest, Lance, I had lived so wild and changed SO much that people hardly understood me. And so one day I realized that it didn’t matter that they understand me or even “see” me, because that wasn’t REALLY what connected us. What connected us was LOVE. So I just started loving people and in doing so ALL isolation ended. Love was the bond that connected me to others, not my experiences. Love is the bond that connects us all. There are no words needed. We need not even have the same background, life experiences, beliefs, religion, schooling, skin color, country. We need only love and we are instantly connected.

You are one who has so seen this in me and encouraged it me. You are also one who LIVES their love. In doing so you have made a great difference in my life.

Thank you my sweet friend. You are precious.
    Love,
    Robin

@Robin Easton — Robin. You are ALWAYS such a gift here. And it’s because you live LOVE. You do. So, I read what you have written, and I’m touched again by your love into my life. You give it so freely, and so beautifully. And that love you share is so, so connecting to my soul. Robin, you are a dear and cherished friend. More that that, though, you are LOVE. It radiates from your being, and in that I have been touched deeply. Much love to you…always…

    @MamaZen — Thanks Kelli!
