I like it. I was often a rebel without a clue.

I think “do the things that scare you” is healthy for regular growth. I think it goes nicely with a quote from Maxwell — ““You don’t overcome challenges by making them smaller but by making yourself bigger.”

    This is so so cool!
    Question everything..hmmmm.….
I was the rebel without a cause in my teenage years{ask my mum ;) }…But now I am a rebel with a cause :)
Its so so true…all our most ingenious thoughts come when we are open and wandering aimlessly.…amazing! The mind rests in our aimless phases.…and the heart takes over.
Thank you fro sharing this lance! Youre always so awesome!

Oh, shaking things up with this one. I’m afraid to do things that scare me! I do love #10! How come there isn’t a number 12? Is that me questioning everything? #13 Follow your heart! My favorite one!

Have a lovely day with the fam Lance!

And, judging by the on-set of WHY?WHY?WHY? with the child, she is as well.

  9. Lance says:

@J.D. Meier — “Rebel without a clue” is perhaps the lead in to “rebel with a clue”. I see that clue as being a deeper understanding of self (which is something I very much believe that you are achieving). And doing those things that scare us…one that I find challenging at times (yet, when I move beyond those fears…good stuff comes!).

@SnaggleTooth — Hi Snaggle! Perhaps we all have a little bit of the “rebel” in us. And when we let that “rebel” out, in a good way — that some pretty amazing things can happen. I hope that I have some of the “rebel” in me.…

@Zeenat — I love this list, too, Zeenat!! And when we understand that “rebel” in us — and what it means — I find this to be so connecting with the universe! So, Zeenat…in the wandering you will be doing…may those moments when it’s filled with aimlessness bring an even deeper clarity into who you are. You shine, Zeenat!! Keep on being YOU! Love always, dear friend…

@Lady Fi — Ha!!! Yes, this CAN be scary at times…when we are putting ourselves “out there’!!

@Suzie — Hi Suzie! You know, as I think of you…I see this very much (and in a very lovely way)! So, rebel friend, may your days continue to be creative and abundant! Big hugs!

@Natalia — Hi Natalia!! That’s the one that jumps out at me, too — doing things that scare me. It’s scary…and yet so true…that much good can come from these moments. That #12?? Hmmm.…yep, I wondered about that one, too. Keep following your heart, sweet friend…

@MizFit — Hey Miz! Yes, I would agree — you ARE a rebel! In a shiny and bright sort of way! And even cooler — that your daughter is following in those footsteps! Woohoo!

@Lynn — Hi Lynn! There is just so much information out there in the world — and wow, what a bit of research will find!! And in that research — some continued belief in what is possible!

  10. Farnoosh says:

Lance, is this your handwriting? ;) !
Just teasing — lovely list. Surely a kid cannot have written this.
Leave Home. Wander Aimlessly. — I am a queen of doing that.
And I am with Lynn on “Research with Fury” being my fave!
    Lovely thought of Sunday!

  11. Mister Lance Of Good Wisdom, Fun And inspiration…

Is that YOUR handwriting on that manifesto? Or is it Keri’s? Whan’s teh last tiem you did something scary? What was it? Which of these 12 are you thinking about most today? Which of them did you think about most yesterday? Is there one that’s the biggest challenge for you to follow? And which one?

Did you know that YOU are awesome? And wil always be to all of us?

Is Tess reading this comment?? And if so, will this sentence make her smile? :)

  14. This is so good, I’m sending it to Kristy’s boyfriend who I decided is a rebel when she asked me why he doesn’t wear a seat belt.

The first thing I told her was “he doesn’t like rules.” LOL How do you think I knew that;)

I love no.2 the best but like someone else I want a poster!

  15. Lance says:

@Farnoosh — Hi Farnoosh!! Ummm…no that’s not my handwriting!! Ha! (and a kid…I try to be!!) You know, Farnoosh…I just think this idea of leaving home and wandering is so good. Our world is filled with so much, and you, sweet friend…shine at that thing called exploration!! (…and I can definitely see the researcher in you, too!!)

@Jannie — This would be Keri’s handwriting (or so I am assuming!). Okay — so you are asking the challenging questions this morning, aren’t you?? It was scary participating, in a very active role, in a healing service I was a part of a couple of weeks ago. I really just wasn’t sure if, in the moment, I would say or do the right things (in what felt like a very sacred moment). And — guess what? The whole experience ended up being just so completely moving and connecting for me (so…doing that scary thing was so, so positive and uplifting!). And — I am thinking mostly about that one (the scary things) and the wandering. I wonder where I might wander to next? Yesterday — it was about forgetting about the competition (esp. in a challenging loss the soccer team I coach — faced). And — definitely the hardest for me: doing the things that scare me on a regular basis… Wow, Jannie…I’m getting tired out just answering all your questions. Did I get them all? Are you a therapist? Did you know that YOU, sweet and dear friend, are really what awesome is all about? (YOU ARE!!)

@Marisa — Hi Marisa!! Isn’t this just GREAT!! I agree — looking at this often is a very cool idea!

    @Jules — Hi Jules!! James Dean-like…no doubt!! With a positive up-spin!!

@Tess — Hi Tess!! Me? I’m a seatbelt type of guy… There is something, though, about doing your own thing. Tess…I have this pretty good idea that YOU have been living the REBEL lifestyle for a LONG time! And it’s part of what makes you so amazing and awesome!! And — that 2nd item is a pretty great way to go about life — it really shines of living from our hearts!

  16. This will probably go into moderation, as I set up my new default e-mail. But rest assured, it really is ME!!

It is interesting to wonder if we will say the correct thing sometimes, human nature — but we usually pull through for ourselves.

Yes, I am a therapist! A question therapist — trained by Sven!

Glad to hear you wear your seatbelt — I’m a seatbelt kind of gal too!

Off to bug some other blogger now! :)

I have trouble with making a mess, Lance. That act is fun, but then the mess drives me nuts and I have to clean it up. Cleaning up messes I don’t like. Guess I could make the mess and then expand my horizons and visit other places, wandering aimlessly :-)

  18. Joy Tanksley says:

Oh, Lance, Lance, Lance. I just can’t tell you how much I needed this today. The last few days I’ve found myself getting sucked into some things that don’t feel particualry yummy to me (like Facebook and Twitter) because I told myself I have to do those things to be successful. I just spent the morning having a heart-to-heart with myself and getting clear on what I REALLY want. I have recommitted to doing things MY way — following the path that feels the most free, delightful, and beautiful to my soul, regardless of how popular or acceptable those choices may seem to others. Reading this Manifesto was such a perfect confirmation of my choice. Thanks a bunch.

Hey, maybe that’s our new blogging moniker–The Rebels with a Cause Bloggers:)

  22. Lance says:

@Jannie — Hey, I thought I recognized that name!!! It is YOU!!! Jannie, you are right — especially in those moments where we maybe think we’ll not say the right things — somehow, we have a way of pulling it together. You, sweet friend, seem like a really wise soul! (well, I KNOW you are!!) Wisdom not only by Swen…that’s my guess. Some probably from the homeland of Canada! I’m sure of it! Hey, how about we meet at an amusement park some day (all our kids would have a blast). We could ride the scariest ride together…with our seatbelts on!

@Davina — Hi Davina! Ah, yes…that cleaning up process. Not so much fun. And when the mess bugs us…even less fun, perhaps. For some reason, I have this thing about not having a mess in the kitchen. Anywhere else, though…no problem. (hmmm.…maybe I have a problem!!) Maybe that’s it…wander away from that mess…I love it!!

@Joy Tanksley — Hi Joy. There sure can be all these things that it might seem like are the “appropriate” things to do. Really, though — is it appropriate if it doesn’t feel right to us? (and I know, too…it’s an easy something to fall into). Definitely do things YOUR WAY! And — by the way — I really think that what I see as your way is all filled with awesome-ness!! And that’s so great to see — I feel that joy coming from you in those moments — in beautiful ways!!

@Chania Girl — Carla!! I know, this is just so AWESOME, isn’t it!! So poster-worthy!! And — Carla — I know that what you say has deep meaning for you. So, as you face anything that seems like your dark side, know that much good will come from all of that. You are a shining star here, and a dear, dear friend. I look forward to all that lies ahead for you. And — #9 — Carla!! You completely have rocked this one! What an amazing experience this has to be for you! So awesome! (just like YOU!)

@Miguel — Hi Miguel. This is really good…you noticing very much what makes you angry. Awareness is such a key component to living our lives — and you are there. And — what you have touched upon is really so important…

@Joychristin — Right!! That “pillage and plunder part” might not be so good in this one!!! (ha!!) I kind of think you are right — that you DO live this (everything I’ve seen sure points to that!). And — yay!! for K8!! And — I LOVE that blogging moniker!!! The Rebels with a Cause Bloggers!!! Woo-Hoo!!!!

  27. Hi Lance,
    You KNOW I love this — don’t you? ;)
About #8 (voice) I recently watched a commencement speech by John Grisham — hosted over at Tim’s site 360 Degree Self (it’s incredibly good!) — and this manifesto reminded me of that speech. It’s so important to not only find one’s voice in this world, but to let it be known, to spread one’s ideas, and to speak with conviction. Your post and Tim’s new lounge, I think, are conspiring to send me a message, too.

@Lori — Hey Lori!! I DO know you love this!!! And — I saw what Tim has started, although I haven’t been there to watch the videos yet. The John Grisham one sounds fabulous!! If we share that which is in our heart…even though not everyone will love what we’re saying (and not everyone will)…it’s still so, so good. That voice…our heart…is shared — and when spoken with conviction — that could be just what someone out there needs to hear. Lori, I hear your voice…and it’s beautiful what you have to share!

  34. Megan "JoyGirl!" Bord says:

I love the “make a mess” one, because today I let myself get just a little bit messy. I’ve been a fuss budget since birth, so it’s not easy for me to buck tradition! However, today I played in dirt, and let Andy throw dirt balls at me (and threw some back!), and got grass all over me, and tracked dirt in the house… And it was GOOD!

No one died, nothing was broken… but FUN was had. I wish I’d know about that “make a mess” thing sooner!

    These are GREAT!

I love the go everywhere, experience different cultures, and try new things. My dad was a very shy man. He was an introvert. My mom was completely opposite; talks to everyone. I, often, want to shy away from new things. I really do believe it’s a hereditary trait, but I force myself out there and it pays off EVERY time.

    Thanks Lance, great post!

    @Jenn — It’s a great manifesto!!

@Barbara — Hi Barbara! “Follow your heart”…I think it’s a great way to end this Rebel’s Manifesto with that part!

@Angelia — Hey Angelia!! It can be easy for me, too…to settle in and do what’s comfortable and known. Yet, you’re right — when we step out of that box — try new things — it is so often such a wonderful experience! And the more I travel through this life, the more I believe that all these experiences really do lead me on a life path that I’m loving! Happy Travels!!! (.…wherever and whenever that happens for all of us!)
