Wow, Lance.
That’s an interesting statement. To some extent, I do care about credit — I have to be honest. But, I also know that caring too much leaves an artist open and vulnerable to seeking approval and defending against criticism. It’s a vicious cycle, because that gets in the way of creativity. I guess there are different ways to see this. An artist also wants to be able to share their work with others and knowing it has been ‘seen’ and appreciated is part of that.
There is so much value packed into this passage. “Artists don’t care about credit”. Hmm.
Nice Sunday thought to bring inspiration, Lance. I guess there will always be critics, and we shouldn’t let their criticism bring us down. We are all artists, and none can be replaced!

Not one particular thing stood out to me..I found my self emphatically nodding in agreement with *everything*…so I clicked to Seth’s link–very interesting!! Thank you for introducing me to Seth’s work. Thank you for sharing as you do…Now I have lots to mull over…make sure I’m embracing as best as I can, and working to release that which acts as a barrier to embracing..all while I am honoring my pledge to myself to incorporate Summertime fun into my life:)

As you know I am a big fan of Seth and went to see him live in Belgium recently. Although all he says is not really rocket science it seems that people don’t get it yet. You have to do your thing and do it well. Your art, the thing that you have in you. Whether it’s serving people, singing, baking a cake, writing a blog or selling toothbrushes. I try to live by it. I am a linchpin. I am not waiting for others to find me. I do my thing. Because I have to, because I like it, because it’s me.
What a great Sunday thought.

I heart Seth. He rocks.…and I love so much of his maverick perspective. (And I love how short his posts are too ha ha!)
Funny though today…as I read this quote…I was listening to a speaker, Dave Oshana talk about spiritual enlightenment. And they both ring so true.
What I see as Seth’s gift is buoying and boosting the life force each one of us has within us. For me, he is essentially saying, “Get up off to couch and inhabit your body.” And in this way, he powerfully encourages us each to BE here.
And the speaker that was playing while I started to read this is saying, “Get up out of your body and inhabit the idea of spirit.” And in the same though different way the message is the same,
“BE HERE NOW.“
Thank you…with a full day ahead, I will remember the words of both and allowing being to take center stage.

Lance: Thank you so much for the Sunday inspiration. That was a really message from Seth. Thanks for passing it along and the jolt of motivation. I really appreciated the line about the more you put into the world, the more it gives back … so powerful. We all need to hear those inspiring messages from time to time.
I like Evita like the line about our choices determining our future. Yet unless I stay conscious and present with my choices I am tempted to mess up my future. I was struggling to give in to a bad habit yesterday and instead made a conscious effort to stay in the present moment and in touch with why I wanted to “disconnect.” Easy line to understand…not so easy to do choice by choice on certain days.
I’m a huge fan of Seth Godin. I also have to admit that a lot of my ideas come from him. He thinks in such a unique way that helps a person see the truth of their situation.
We are all afraid of one thing or another, but we can’t let this stop us from doing great work. We have to be honest and and do the stuff that is important to us. That means being a linchpin at work, at home, and with our friends.
I like Seth, and he makes some great points in Linchpin, however, the premise of his book I disagree with slightly. His premise is that industry the way it has been done is broke and needs replacing, whereas I agree things are broke, but they need to be fixed, not replaced.

I embrace a lack of structure to find a new path. I am doing that right now with how we live in following co-creative science principles with nature. We have been dominated by a status quo that is no longer serving us, we have dominated nature in agriculture in a way that the food we grow is no longer nourishing us. I have left that status quo and am finding a new path. It is lonely sometimes, often scary but most of all exciting and very very promising for entering the stage of a New Earth, Heaven on Earth.

Always moving is a big one. When I am not moving, I lose out on opportunities. There hasn’t been a time where I slowed down and came out okay. It might be smart for me to always have a piece of paper around that says “keep moving” on it. Great things come when you keep moving. It causes people to look at you as though they know you will help them out or create something cool or do a certain job in time.

Thanks Lance for your reply. Althought I disagree with some of the premise for Seth’s book, I am a big fan. We have 300ish Squidoo lenses, so I’m very familiar with Seth’s writtings. Squidoo is one of Seth’s babies.

Hi Lance — I haven’t read the Linchpin yet but I love the idea. Being the artist, instead of focusing on the trivial work gives a greater sense of achievement. So many of the old business models encourage you to pay someone else to be the artist while you manage the system but the world has changed so much — we don’t need to do that anymore. Why pay someone else to be the artist, when we can just outsource the trivial stuff and be the artist ourselves?

I loved Linchpin, and I am a huge Seth fan. It’s great to see the manifesto here.
Artists and credit. Hmm. It’s an interesting thought to ponder if we are honest, especially as I am about to launch our first novel, after all, I am not going to write“written by anonymous” so I have to admit that I do care about receiving credit for my work.
I think…maybe what it is, is that I don’t create for the fame or credit, I create because the need to add my value and art into the world is as much a part of me as my need to breathe. I can’t hold it in. It must be expressed one way or another and I can’t be held back by what others think or believe. That just doesn’t fit into the picture.

I’m going to go with “Energy is contagious” or perhaps you will allow me to modify it to Enthusiasm is contagious.
When I coach people to give speeches I say exactly that “Enthusiasm is contagious, if yu aren’t enthusiastic, why should your audience be?”
Also like “The past is gone — it has no power.“
