"What you do for yourself – any gesture of kindness, any gesture of gentleness, any gesture of honesty and clear seeing toward yourself – will affect how you experience your world. In fact, it will transform how you experience the world. What you do for yourself you're doing for others, and what you do for others, you're doing for yourself." ~ Pema Chödrön

I couldn’t agree more…treating yourself well is not selfish, it just prepares you for the service of others.

The quote really exemplifies the interconnectedness we all share with one another, plus the fact that our actions really matter.

Lance, this pretty much says it all, doesn’t it! If we don’t take care of ourselves & don’t even care enough to do that, how can we be the best we can for others too. Being good to yourself shows those around you that you loving yourself is not selfish but a good thing. A great model for children to see!

So this: What you do for yourself you’re doing for others, and what you do for others, you’re doing for yourself…. YES, this becomes the best thing ever!

Thx Lance & you know I am going to share this one! 🙂

This is exactly how we work to change the world, one person at a time, startinge with ourselves and extending the ripple effect out to others who do the same. The ripples go on forever. This is how I am working to stop child abuse. Starting with healing myself and sharing those experiences with others who can see that healing is possible. Working together we can change the world. I also look forward to your Sunday Thought For The Day.

Happy Sunday Lance,

Another beautiful quote and photo. I love how the message teaches us karma – be kind to ourselves, and others. The circle of love.

What a beautiful thought and picture! The first sentence speaks volume’s for me. A reminder that I have to take care of myself first! As a wife and a mother that sometimes gets lost on me. But I can tell you the whole house suffers when I don’t take care of myself first! My hubby and son will attest to that! It’s counter intuitive! It feels selfish, but when I’m kind to myself and do what I need to do, there’s so much more of me to give to others! 🙂

I’m late to reading this – out of town this weekend, but I love the quote. Exactly right – you are doing for yourself when you do for others. My wonderfully generous uncle passed away two weeks ago – I plan to adopt his closing words of prayer that he always used, “Help us be ever mindful of the needs of others.”
