Sunday Thought For The Day

"I believe that this way of living, this focus on the present, the daily, the tangible, this intense concentration not on the news headlines but on the flowers growing in your own garden, the children growing in your own home, this way of living has the potential to open up the heavens, to yield a glittering handful of diamonds where a second ago there was coal. This way of living and noticing and building and crafting can crack through the movie sets and soundtracks that keep us waiting for our own life stories to begin, and set us free to observe the lives we have been creating all along without even realizing it"

~ “Cold Tangerines” by Shauna Niequist

Beautiful. I am literally in the middle of writing a post called ‘Stop Using the ‘Waiting for’ Excuse’, and your post is all about that.

Lance, you’re an inspiration. I know you didn’t write the quote, but finding it, and taking meaning from it, and then sharing it with your readers is an inspiration in itself. Thank you.

Love it Lance and seems to be a focus for many of us right now, to focus on the present , what we feel, what we see, right here right now.
I think that it is amazing how when we be in the now how our stories do emerge

love and freedom

This Thought For the Day gave me goosebumps as I read it. Such a beautiful truth in this, and worded so perfectly.
All we ever have is the present, and I’m grateful that in this moment I’m reading your blog, absorbing the love that is present here, from you and your beautiful readers.

Thank you

Love this quote and love the book it’s from. Both Cold Tangerines and Shauna’s new book, Bittersweet, touched me deeply. Her writing is full of powerful reminders of the importance of living our lives RIGHT NOW. Happy Sunday, Lance!

Beautiful, and makes me want to go outside today and just sit amongst the leaf piles, listening to birds chirp and squirrels scattering to and fro.
Thank you, wondrous friend! And such a glorious picture… Wow!
Happy Sunday!

Hi Lance:

I really really like the thoughts expressed in the quote. Right now, I’m re-reading one of my favorite books on mindfulness (“Wherever You Go There You Are”) and I believe very strongly about making this moment right now the best moment possible. String enough of these great present moments together and suddenly you’re really living and life feels happier. I also love the photo you included…it reminds me of spring and all its beautiful color. Don’t get me wrong, the colorful fall leaves are pretty awesome, too. Lance thanks for a really important reminder today!

When I sit in the moment and observe what is, it really becomes apparent to me how much of life is just a story we create inside our heads. Our raw sense and raw feelings are all we have. All the meaning we create in life is because of them.

This quote resonates fully with my intention to live an inspired, wide awake life this year. And the picture is beautiful. I can’t even recall the last time I watched the TV news. The depressing style of their headlines doesn’t appeal to me at all. Not when I can have complete control over the format in which I get information these days.

We have a lot of power to control our input now days. I love it.

And why is it you always know what I always need to hear….? Rhetorical. Thank you.

That is simply put Perfection! So many of us humans are waiting to live while observing distractions. We are constantly confused about why life does not match the pictures in our head when all we need to do is
concentrate on living!
