"How to be at peace now? By making peace with the present moment. The present moment is the field on which the game of life happens. It cannot happen anywhere else. Once you have made peace with the present moment, see what happens, what you can do or choose to do, or rather what life does through you. There are three words that convey the secret of the art of living, the secret of all success and happiness: One With Life. Being one with life is being one with Now. You then realize that you don't live your life, but life lives you. Life is the dancer, and you are the dance." ~ Eckhart Tolle

This was the perfect reminder for me tonight! Thank you for sharing this! Isn’t it so true? It is so easy to be anywhere but here in the moment some times, and it feels so good when we remember to be and come back to it.

Yes, it’s all too easy to be somewhere other than the moment we’re in. And when we do this, we’re missing out on what that very moment holds….

Happy Sunday, Lance!

I find I move in and out of awareness of this concept, and certainly in and out of practice with it. I love the idea, though, that life is the dancer and I’m the dance. THAT is such a beautiful way of putting it.
I appreciate you, my friend!

Ahhhh…yes, I can relate to that also. It’s so easy to see this and agree. It’s another thing altogether to fully live this.

And, Megan, you are an amazing and beautiful dance…

Emergefit December 19, 2010 at 8:51 am

Love this this! My mon always said that, “Inner peace, young man, is in the ability to not look past your the end of your nose.” So true.

Happy Sunday sir!

Your Mom was very wise…

Hi Lance,
This is perfect for me. After reading Farnoosh’s manifesto on meditation I set my timer and began again today. I’m dancing my way into the new year. Thanks for the inspiration. xo

This is so true! Being present in our lives. I’ve always loved the saying, “life is what happens when you’re busy making plans”! Even the most well thought out plans will be thwarted by life. Some of, maybe all of my happiest memories/moments are when I’m right in the moment. Breathing it all in, taking in all the beauty, all the gifts, all the treasures that life has brought me! I need to remember this when I think I’m supposed to be further along in my life!

Thanks for the gift of this post! I hope that you have a beautiful Sunday with the fam, Lance!

Lance December 19, 2010 at 7:39 pm

So wonderfully said…and yes – you are where you’re supposed to be…

These moments that make up our life, they are what we allow them to be for us. May you continue to experience these fully alive moments, and may they continue to bring you happiness and peace.

It was a sledding day here in WI!!! And the snow was way FAST!!! Hi to your family!!

“Life is the dancer… and you are the dance” What a gorgeous metaphor! For my part… I have been led a merry dance! [grin] But through that… I am finally learning to stop thinking so hard about the steps and just relaxing into the music.

A beautiful Sunday Thought for the Day… thank you Lance… so much 🙂

Mmmm…I love that, how you are “relaxing into the music”. What a beautiful way to think about this, and how we accept who we truly are…

Little Lessons Under the Big Sky December 20, 2010 at 7:36 am

I absolutely love Eckhart Tolle. He has SO MANY great phrases I find I have to digest his writings a little at a time. I also have to keep them close, knowing it is important to revisit them often.

This one which you chose couldn’t be more perfect for me right now….as the holidays approach. The line about “life is the dancer and you are the dance” is so worthy of repeating as a mantra I am going to print it out and hang it where I can remind myself of this!! It gives such freedom to think and act in the present moment, knowing that it how the universe intended us to live.

Thank you so much for this beautiful post. And I love the picture! Have a wonderful day Lance.

Somedays I feel I need to plaster this quote on my forehead so I may be reminded and reminding as well! This is such a wonderful quote and I had to read it about 4 times, just to really stop my brain and let myself enjoy it! Thanks for sharing

An interesting thought that “you don’t live your life, but life lives you. ” I hadn’t thought of it that way.

Joy December 20, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Hi Lance,
Thank you!
Each morning I open my heart to the day with gratitude and love. There are some moments that I have to “think” to open my heart, I might be hesitant because I am afraid or hurt or something less than..those moments are the ones that I open fully to “see what life does through me”. The result is always magnificently Divine..far more than I could imagine. It is an amazingly wondrous process…I open my heart, magic occurs..that simple!
May delight surround you and your family this week:)

Lance December 24, 2010 at 5:35 am

…magnificently Divine…what beautiful words, you have written.

May we continue to open our hearts to all that is possible…

Evita December 20, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Hi Lance

Great Sunday thought for the day and the week!
It is very rainy here in California, in fact we are in the midst of a major rain storm for over the past week, so these words are especially meaningful to make peace with the present moment, not resist it, but just be one with it, embracing it all 🙂

Thank you and wish you a great new week!

Hi Evita,
…and may the sunshine make an appearance….and there will be moments to be one with that, also.

I really love how you see the positive…the good…the beautiful…in life. What a wonderful gift from your soul…

Joe Wilner December 20, 2010 at 5:43 pm

Being “One with Life.” What a wonderful notion to focus on. When I think of wholeness I often think of inner-harmony, though outer-harmony is also essential. Learning to not always be resisting what is happening in life directly relates to inner-harmony. It so powerful to focus on life working through us, instead of trying to control how life turns out.

Andrzej December 21, 2010 at 7:43 am

Hi Lance!
It’s so good to be at peace at least from ime to time. But when getting a sip of my fav coffee and thinking about last couple of days, filled with dog adoptions, their pics gallery making and two youtube vids about not giving puppies as an Xmas gift – for a moment there I felt so relaxed.

We did what we could lately. It’s time for joy.

Marry Christmas! 🙂

Lance December 24, 2010 at 5:38 am

Merry Christmas Andrzej!

And may joy live wonderfully in your heart…

Jeromey May 21, 2013 at 7:47 pm

“How to be at peace now? By making peace with the present moment” The present moment is always here but its hard to stay present, thing of this world takes us away then past and future come into play in our mind. True liberation comes (as eckhart outlined) when we accept that the now is all we have and accepted it fully. Thanks for sharing Lance

Correct me if I am wrong, Lance. Isn’t the correct Eckart Tolle quote “let life be the music and you be the dancer”?
