“As we let our light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others.” ~ Marianne Williamson

It’s odd but you really can feel the presence of such people. You can pick them out a mile away.

If I’m to be fully liberated from my own fear I need to spend more time with inspirational people.

    Thanks Lance.

    Dave

  2. Stacey says:

It’s true. Last summer I took a workshop on meditation. One of the participants asked “How do I teach this to others?” The instructor simply said “live it yourself and others will notice.”

We can only help ourselves, and those who are ready will see that and get curious.

  3. Dave,
I don’t think there is anything odd about what you just said. Everyone gives off energy and I don’t mean in somw woo-woo type of way. Ever noticed how you can spend an hour with one person and feel energized, pumped up and confident about your goals and the future and another hour with a different person and all of your energy is drained and the world feels dim?

The choices we makes about who and what to be around every day affect us very deeply but we aren’t always aware of it.

True, I feel like “the Secret” does work. If you are happy and can feel happy you will be happy. Same goes for sad..

    So be happy.

Nice blog, I found you Michael’s blog (remarkablogger).

I have subscribed to your blog please check mine out and subscribe if you like it.

    Thanks,

    Wendi,
I guess it’s not that odd, I’ve experienced it enough but for some reason it doesn’t feel like it should be possible.

You know when you just know someone is looking at you… I wonder if it’s linked to the same sort of thing? Energy?

  6. I agree with this great quote. When we show strength and courage in life we absolutely inspire others to do the same.

That is why our happy spirit is a kindness to others.

A poignant example would be expressing a warm smile to someone you cross in the street. They will be positively effected by your state of mind.

  7. Lanceman says:

@Dave — We really can “feel” people’s light shining. And then, we can decide if we want to associate with the type of “light” they are shining. It’s in the power of choice that we can decide what kind of life we want. And, so we can choose to be inspirational, and to associate with those that have the same values. And in doing so, we have the possibility of sharing that light with others.

And I do think that when we just know someone is looking at us — that’s a great realization that we may be having an impact on someone else — and what do we want that impact to be…

@Stacey — This reminds me of another quote when I read what you wrote — from Gandhi — “Be the change you wish to see in this world”. People can hear us talk, but in seeing what we do — that is what may pass on to them, when they are ready.

@Wendi — I agree Wendi, and thanks for responding. You said it so well. We all give off energy, good or bad. We have the ability to choose what we give off — choose the types of energy that you are proud to share with others.

@Jim — Yes, when I feel happy, I also believe that I outwardly portray happy. And likewise, when I’m not happy, that is also what is portrayed. And people pick up on that. And that can then rub off on them. Good or bad. Whatever we’re portraying. So, if we choose to shine our light brightly, others will pick up on that as well.

@Bamboo Forest — A warm smile is such an easy thing to give to others. And who knows what that might mean to the person we just passed. It might be just what they needed to brighten their day a little. That’s the thing, this can be so easy — to be a light that shines brightly — if we’d just start with simple acts of kindness.

  8. Annette says:

the quote reminds me of the song we used to sing in Sunday School as a kid “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine”.…

Sometimes we get so bogged down with worries and “stuff” we forget how easy it is to let our light shine! The kids and I walked to church this morning and spent the walk home afterwards just chatting with people along the way. I think we shined pretty bright.…..the three of us :)

  9. Thanks for the reminder that I should be proud of letting myself shine. Sometimes there’s a little voice in the back of my head saying “who do you think you are to let your light shine.” Most of the time I ignore this voice…but I still hear it.

    Happy Sunday!

  10. Tammy Warren says:

This is so true. I find myself wanted to be around people that are happy. This also includes blogs. I tend to seek some sort of energy from those that speak/write from within themselves.

  11. Lanceman says:

@Annette — Yes that song does fit this pretty good, doesn’t it!! I really enjoy listening to the kids sing it, and, in fact, I think we have all sung it a couple of times. What a great way to be “light” today — making the world a brighter place!

@Stacey/CreateaBalance — I have that same feeling sometimes — let’s just be ordinary, not extraordinary. But I forget that when I shine, I help others to shine also. Maybe it feels like we’re going out on a limb all by ourselves, or we’re taking a chance with our heart. Shine anyway. This reminds of the song by Martina McBride — “Do It Anyway” — about doing whatever “it” is for us, no matter what others think, or say. Do it anyway. You never know who might be listening…

@Tammy — We gravitate toward what makes us happy. What makes someone happy is not the same for everyone, but I think there are certain qualities that we identify with happiness. All we can do is be the light we have within us, and shine it as brightly as possible! We may not always know it, but that light can be shining onto someone else just when they need it.

  12. Jenny says:

This is so true. There are a lot of times when I am afraid to do something or am hesitating, but after watching other people and observing their actions it gives me the strength I need to do whatever it is I need to. The biggest influence and inspiration I get is from Miss Wendi! She is very good at not only doing things on her own but always makes me believe in myself to do things!

    Gorgeous picture too! Very Inspiring!

@Jenny — Sometimes that’s all it takes — seeing in others the light they shine! Wendi is a great example of someone who shows much light through her writing. Her comments always are uplifting — in fact, they radiate light!

@FitMom — Thanks! It really speaks volumes about the importance of our actions and what they convey as well.

    @CG Walters — Thanks!

  16. Thanks for the inspirational quote. I’d like to think that as I work on my own negative issues, those around me can start to experience more light!

@Evelyn — I think people pick up on whatever light we have shining. I see a bright and positive light coming from you Evelyn!

    @Mark — Thanks!

@Vered — And that’s the great news — what we do can reflect onto others. So we have the opportunity to share our light with others!

@Marelisa — Michael Jordan is a great example of shining his light. He did phenomenal things on the basketball court, and it gave many others something to strive for, something that was possible.

@Cath — What an easy way for us to share our light — through something as simple as being happy.
