The Power of One

One song can spark a moment
One flower can wake the dream
One tree can start a forest
One bird can herald spring

One smile begins a friendship
One handclasp lifts a soul
One star can guide a ship at sea
One word can frame the goal

One vote can change a nation
One sunbeam lights a room
One candle wipes out darkness
One laugh will conquer gloom

One step must start each journey
One word must start each prayer
One hope will raise our spirits
One touch can show you care

One voice can speak with wisdom
One heart can know what’s true
One life can make the difference
You see, it’s up to you!

Nice poem Lance. Like the new layout on your blog.
    I have a question for you here:http://mindfulmimi.blogspot.com/2008/11/to-be-on-facebook-or-not-to-be-on.html
Congrats on the run. I haven’t been in a while (sick and wheezing) but plan on starting again. Yes, some people don’t train and just beat you. That’s life:-)
    Enjoy the weekend.

happy sunday. my daughters birthday. I PRAY that she realizes the power of one as my quote for her (which I chose right after we met :) ) is: to the world you are one person—but to one person you are the world.

have a great day Lance & LanceClan!

  3. Laurie says:

There is more power in ONE than we realize. Every journey begins with ONE step, doesn’t it Lance? But what direction will we make that step and what adventures will we find along the way? If we never begin with that ONE step, we miss out on the joy that is life. Have a ONE-derful Sunday! Hugs!

  4. Jeanne says:

I have always loved that verse.
    Thank you

  5. I like the new layout, love the free life balance eBook link (one enormous thank you), and appreciate the poem. I’ve been hearing a lot of doom and gloom this past week and must remember the power of one holds true as the sun begins to shine again.

We do have such grand beauty withing us, we just need to let it out at full speed. No fear of judgment and no worries of failure. This isn’t easy, but worth every minute that we try.

  9. Evita says:

What a beautiful thought for the day and for our lives — we are after all ALL ONE! The world is such a beautiful place and life becomes so amazing when we realize that and live by that.

There is indeed great power in ONE!

@Mindful Mimi — Thanks, and thanks! The run was great — and a great way to start the day. I stopped over to check out your question…

@MizFit — Happy Sunday to you! Birthday for the tornado — party time!!!! I love that quote, too — you love your daughter very much, I can tell! She is lucky to have you as her mother… My day consisted of snowmen and football (you probably didn’t have the snowmen…). Hope your day was great, and more importantly — that the special little girl in your life had a wonderful day!

@Laurie — Very true, even though every journey begins with one step — we would do well to choose that direction wisely. You have a “one-derful” Sunday too Laurie — and hugs right back at you!

@Jeanne — I read this and knew right away I needed to put it as my “Sunday Thought for the Day”. Thanks for stopping by!

@Stacey/Create A Balance — Thanks, thanks, and thanks (it seemed funny saying that…)!!!! And really, Stacey — I need to thank you — for putting the life balance e-book together. What a wonderful gift to share with others. I am only glad that I can help to share this wonderful creation with others!

@Sharon — I’m glad you enjoyed this Sharon!

@Karl — Yes, I can see a bit an Obama ring to this! Let our beauty out — yes, it’s in there, in all of us! And not easy to do sometimes, but so rewarding when we really let it happen! Thanks, Karl!

@BC Doan — I agree, this really is an uplifting poem! And something worth thinking about, and what it means in our lives, personally…

@Evita — Yes, we are all one! And, as one — we have so much we can do. Sometimes, we think that it “takes an army” to do all that needs to be done, to change a life, to be. In reality, though, it all has to start with us, individually — one. The world is indeed a beautiful place! And, thank you, too, about the site updates — I really like the cleaner look I have now!

And hey I have a question… you know on your Gravatar, what exactly is the background on that pic, if you don’t mind me asking? Not sure if it’s a snowy tree or a plastic banner depicting a ski resort.

@Jannie — I love the poem, thank you Jannie! You are too wonderful!! Your question about the background in my avatar — it a picture from this summer when we visited Mount Rainier, in Washington state. So, it’s real snow! And, thank you re: the site’s new look — I like it quite a bit too!!

@Linda — Two surprises! Glad you liked them both Linda!

@Dr. Cason — As one, we always have a choice… Yes, that can be scary at times. But th empowering part is what gives us hope, and a belief in what is possible!

@Davina– Thanks, glad you enjoyed this one — I knew when I found it this was great material for “Sunday”…

@LifeMadeGreat|Juliet — Thanks for stopping by Juliet, and glad you enjoyed this!

@Evelyn — It IS beautiful, isn’t it! The whole thought of what “oneness” means…

@Jewel — Ripple effect, yes! Great thought, Jewel! As one, we can do something, be something, etc — that can affect another, and they can then pass that on as well. Who know how far our “one” being can go… And, thanks about the header. It was the part I struggled with the most in the whole process of switching over the theme. I went through way too many iterations of the header before I found something that really seemed to “fit”. And, this I think, does fit quite well!

Loved this poem, Lance! We often forget the difference we can make by doing one simple thing. It can change someone’s day or even life! If we resolve to be the person who implements these these things imagine how our lives will be fulfilled as well as the people we are touching!

Hi Lance: Sometimes when I have a lot of things to do I tell myself: this is the one thing I can do right now; when I’m done with this I can take the next step, but right now this is the only thing I can do. By taking one step at a time we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. I had never seen that poem before, I really liked it :-)

  29. Lance says:

    @GroundedFitness — Your welcome!

    @Squawkfox — Your welcome, too!!

@Jennifer — One thing can do so much — even when we think it’s “nothing”, or “inconsequential”. And who knows what that one small thing might lead to. It’s a win-win, isn’t it, Jennifer! And how can you argue with that…

@Jannie — Yes…snow — very cool — especially for summer! Now, if I can just all of that white stuff out of my driveway that we have today…not so cool…in the not so true sense of the meaning!

@Annette — Thanks Annette, I like how the redesign turned out, too! Glad you enjoyed the poem, as well. Enjoy your December!!

@Caroline — Just one — what difference can just one make? Sometimes, it seems like not very much — but the truth is quite the opposite. Even when we may not see the results right away — it doesn’t mean “just one” is not having an effect. It’s a good reminder for us all!

@Sagan — Potential and opportunities — two things that “one” can do — all it takes is doing/being that “one”!

@Stephanie — Thanks Stephanie, glad you enjoyed it!

@Stacey Shipman — I think we’ve all felt that way, where what difference will “I” make. And, the real key — the end of what you said — you put a bunch of “ones” together and great things can happen! Or even greater things can happen (great things can also happen with just “one” also…). Anyway, here’s to every“one” being, doing, and believing…

@Marelisa — It’s like taking small steps, or bite-sized tasks on. By breaking things down into smaller pieces, everything seems more do-able. Great point, Mare — looking at the one thing we can do now to move us toward whatever our end goal is…

  30. Hi Lance — I’m speechless. Your new theme is fabulous and the poem is awesome. Great job on both accounts.

Lance, your sure know how to pick great ones (poems, videos, blog headers).

@Angel — No, you are certainly not least Angel!! Not by a longshot! Okay, so the poem — I’ll take the credit (I did pick it out!) — although the blog header — I couldn’t have done it without you! And, it’s a perfect example of this poem in action. You, Angel! You are the reason this header is the way it is — I know — know — that it would not be the same had you not spent the time you did helping me through the many iterations I had. And, in the end — I love the way it has turned out. Because of YOU! So, your welcome — about the gentle reminder.
