When there is light in the soul, there is beauty in the person,
When there is beauty in the person, there is harmony in the home,
When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation,
When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.
~ Ancient Chinese proverb ~

This is definitely a great Chinese proverb! The Chinese have a lot of proverbs relating to the harmony of the home. I can’t agree more with them!

  8. Hi Everyone – I’ll be responding to comments for this post while Lance continues to soak up the sun. I’m looking forward to the conversation.

Arswino – Exactly. Baby steps lead to bigger steps and we can all be part of healing the world.

Evelyn – It is so powerful to think that the concept of “harmony in the home starts with self care” is an ancient believe that is still relevant today.

Daphne – I think that is why this quote had such an impact on me. It’s also a great reminder that light is contagious.

Brandi – Hi joy rebel! Keep shining your light and keep spreading that joy.

Patricia – As I mentioned to Daphne, light is contagious. I’m happy to know this quote has brightened your world.

  19. Laurie says:

This reminds me of the advice that Jesus gives when he says to remove the plank in your own eye before you can remove the speck of dust in your neighbors eye. Only when we work on our self, our attitudes, weaknesses, growth, can we be in a place to be a light in the darkness and have a beautiful soul to share with others.

  20. A sort of rippling effect is also what I thought of when reading this. It’s a soothing quote!

So much truly does begin in each of our own souls.

    How beautiful!!! Thank you Stacey!

I wholeheartedly believe that! We all want big things like world peace and happiness, but we struggle to attain it on our own personal level. May we master that first, for then everything else will fall into place naturally!

Liara – I’m hearing you say it is up to each person to find and shine their light.

Maria – I agree. It is my life passion to help others get in touch with (and share) their inner light.

Caroline – Lance always seems to pick just the right photos for each Sunday Thought for the day.

Laurie – I’m a firm believer in sharing our light with others. Lightness is contagious.

Christine – It’s a great reminder of how much we each truly impact the world around us.

Positively Present – Exactly. Light and a good attitude are both contagious and can both impact the world.

Hilary – Great insight. We need to let our light shine and let the light shine in as well.

Evita – Well said. The more our light grows individually the brighter the world will shine.

Sami – Thank you. This quote makes me feel peaceful and powerful. It’s powerful to know my life and my light can lead to a more peaceful world.

  31. Lisa — Yeah! Your photography reminds me of the world’s natural ability for peace.

Vered — Yes, it makes sense, but we still do not have world peace. Is it because some people do not want world peace? Do some actually prefer a personal quest for world domination? *sigh*

Carla — I hear you. May our light be contagious and multiply.

Natural Moments — Beautifully stated. Shine on natural moments, shine on!

Robin — It does start with each and every one of us.

  32. Davina says:

It is so often the simple, brief, well-chosen words in quotes that pack the most punch and give us the clearest of all “instructions”. This one was certainly no exception. All peace in the world begins with one person, one soul with light. It is an awesome responsibility for us all! Thanks for sharing this — it is another GEM!

  38. Thanks for this post. It’s hard to see on the surface sometimes, but I’m certain these days that there’s so much we can bring to the world as individuals just by walking through it in a peaceful state.

  39. Marelisa says:

It does all start with what’s within each person.

  40. Davina – I love it. When there is peace in the word, there is light in the soul.

Suzen – I completely agree with you. I hope one day my words will pack the greatest punch.

Barbara — *Smiles* right back at you. Light is the essence of beauty.

J.D. – Thanks for adding spirals to the conversation. The image of light filled spirals is simply divine.

Mark – I think everyone responding to this post is sending light across the globe.

Chris – Your comment reminds me to have the patience with individuals so I can find the light in everyone I meet.

Marelisa – Yes. Let’s welcome everyone to let their inner light shine.

  41. I can’t believe I haven’t heard this proverb before — it’s perfect. if we could just teach this to every child as they started school and got them to recite it like an anthem every morning, maybe future generations would have the kind of world I can only dream of.

Thanks for this Lance. I think I might have to write it out and put it on my fridge so I can remind myself of the importance of filling my soul up with joy.

    Kelly@SHE-POWER

  42. Kelly — Thanks for your burst of sunshine. I love the visual of filling my soul up with joy.

  43. Jennifer says:

Lance, so beautiful and so true! I love this. It all starts with a light in one person. One person can truly make a difference that can span the world. This proverb portrays perfectly how it gets passed along bit by bit. What if I choose to have the light in me? What if I choose to let God in and penetrate my life? What difference can be made?

@Stacey/Create A Balance — Stacey, thanks so much for sharing this quote here, and for all the replies to taken the time to do. I appreciate it all very much!

@Everyone — I’m just getting caught up after vacation — and reading all the replies here is powerfully reaffirming for me. Thank you, each one of you, for being here!

@Jennifer — Yes, this is beautiful, Stacey shared a real gem here. I too love how it is all about starting with us. It’s not about trying to fix others first. It’s starting with something (someone) we can control of — ourselves. And when we find that light, and really let it shine — we’re taking that first step toward a more peaceful world.

@Jocelyn — Hi Jocelyn. Isn’t that a great thought? It starts with us — someplace we CAN make a difference! And through small steps, that light in us will grow to something much bigger — wonderful!

@Lisa’s Chaos — Hi Lisa. I love this photo too, and how it reminds me that us, individually, can be the steps that lift our world up — especially reading the quote — what that really means to starting with ourselves toward making positive changes in our world…
