Sunday Thought For The Day

Mumbai Flowers
Creative Commons License photo credit: Swami Stream

Mom Is…

A gently flowing stream, moving me along
A soft and gentle pillow for me to rest on when I should

The sunset after a long and challenged day
And a sunrise to start anew

A band-aid when something hurts
A shoulder, when I need someone to lean on

Loving arms to hold me close
And wings to let me fly

A sanctuary, a place to feel “home“
And a hug, as I head out into the great unknown

Mostly though, Mom is…
Love, caring deeply through it all
Love, sprinkled daily in my life
Love, connection that bonds two souls
Love, unconditional and always there…

This is dedicated to two very special ladies:
My mother, who gave me life and continues to be a guiding light.
My wife, the mother of my children, who daily goes above what I imagine is possible, in the lives of our children.

Gerbera daisies are my favorite flower so I absolutely love the picture that goes with this post!

My mom passed away some years ago so Mother’s Day is a hard day. However, I do have my memories of my mom which I am grateful to have. The interesting thing is that even though she is no longer here with me, I know she is with me as I go about my life. So yay for the love that mother’s give! :)

    Hello Lance

As beautiful as this poem is, I have to say I was most touched by the beautiful dedication that you provided to the “mothers” in your life! From appreciation comes gratitude and vice versa in our lives.

So Happy Mother’s Day to Lora and may you all have a beautiful and love-filled day!

We just finished having a nice lunch with my mom actually :)

  21. Robin Easton says:

Dear Lance, this moved me to tears. So deeply expressed. What you wrote at the very end about your mother and then your wife just pushed my tears over the edge and down my face. Simply beautiful that you are aware of them both in this way and what they bring to your world, your soul and the souls of your children.

It also moved me as my mom is dying of Alzheimer’s and is at the stage where she doesn’t recognize anyone. But what is SO amazing is that she visits me in my dreams at night and talks to me. And the love is so complete and tender that I usually sob the next day. Good clean tears. I know that no matter what goes on in her body, her soul is with me. I still miss her so much and would give anything to sit and talk for even one hour. One single hour.

I still talk with her and I trust she hears me on the levels that matter. My father died many years ago, but he too is still with me and was with me all through the writing of my book. When you read it someday you will see why and how.

Thank you dear Lance for touching my life in a very precious and special way, a very REAL way. I always go away feeling more like ME. I am sending you, your dear Mom and beautiful wife much love on this mother’s day…and always. Robin

To all the mothers stopping by here today, may today be a very Happy Mother’s Day for each of you!

@Hilary — Hi Hilary. Thank you! And many blessings to you as well.

@Rupal — Well said! Thanks for stopping by today.

@Miz — Hi Carla. Your words are much appreciated, my friend. I AM blessed with some very wonderful people in my world — my wife and my mother being two at the top of that list! Have wonderful day with your family! Happy Mom’s Day!

@Daphne — Having a person you know you can turn to, no matter what, makes all the difference, doesn’t it. You mother sounds very special, thanks for sharing this. And thank you for your kind words, I really am blessed!

@Stacey Shipman — I’m passing it on (well…really, Lora’s reading it!). Thank you! I hope your day with your mom was a wonderful day for both of you. Sounds like your mom is a pretty special lady, now I know where you get it from…

@Natalia — Hi Natalia. Thank you, and a very happy Mom’s day to you as well!

@Yum Yucky — Hi Josie. Thanks much! The sun is out and four kids coating you with their love — that does sound like an awesome way to spend the day — enjoy! Happy Mother’s Day to you!

@LisaNewton — Hi Lisa. And, you’re welcome, glad to bring out a smile. While I’ll never fully know what it’s like to be a mother, I learn more and more all the time of how truly connected mothers are to their children. And that’s pretty special. It sure sounds like you’ve raised your kids in such a way that they are living out the principles you’ve instilled in them. Happy Mother’s Day to you Lisa!

  28. Lance says:

@Jannie — Jannie, thank you, very deeply, for everything you’re saying. All these planets you know…I want to know more! I know you’re having a beautiful day, in so many ways. Enjoy your family, and knock ‘em out at the debut of your CD!

@Jenny Mannion — Hi Jenny. Thank you! I appreciate what you’re saying very much. Enjoy your day with your family, and your time with your mother. Happy Mother’s Day to you, my friend.

@Diane C. — Hi Diane. Thank you! Unconditional love — as a father, I believe I have that. Yet, I also think that a mother’s connection with her child is so great, that this is an unconditional love that is even stronger.

@Suddenly Slimmer — Hi Alia. I’m sorry to hear your mother is no longer with you here. Knowing you always have her with you deep within your soul — that is something worth hanging on to.

@Stacey / Create A Balance — Hi Stacey. Ah, taking time for ourselves. I have a hard time with this sometimes. And I think it can be more difficult for mothers, in general, as they tend to focus more on their children’s needs over their own. And you make a wonderful point, Stacey, that if we’re not taking care of ourselves, then how can be properly take care of others. Thanks for sharing this — we can’t ever hear it too much. Happy Mom’s Day to you…

@Evelyn — Hi Evelyn. Well, I’m pretty sure I’m the lucky one — having these two great ladies in my life. Thanks much, your words mean the world to me! Happy Mother’s Day Evelyn!

@Mark Salinas — Hi Mark, great to see you! And…ditto that — Happpy Mothers Day to all the moms!

@Henie — Hi Henie. I love the quote! Mom’s sure do a lot to raise kids that turn out to be loving, loyal, productive citizens. I said it above, and I’ll say it again — I really am the lucky one here. I’ve been blessed with some super wonderful people — my Mom and my wife are the best! And to you, my friend, may your day be wonderful — Happy Mother’s Day!

  29. Lance says:

@Caroline — Thank you Caroline. I’m sure that without my wife around, several things would occur: our kids would go hungry, their clothes would be in shambles, they’d never finish their homework, they’d be late for school, and probably have been left someplace way more times than I’d care to count. And that’s only the tip of this iceberg! Mom’s do it all. And I really don’t know how sometimes. So Caroline, to you today — Happy Mother’s Day — it’s well deserved!

@Nadia — Hi Nadia. Oh, I’m glad you love the picture — a bright and cheery flower seemed like just the right photo today! Nadia, I’m sorry to hear about your mother, and I’m sure that does make this day especially difficult — as it brings up memories of her for you. And at the same time, reminds you that those days are past. That you hold her dearly in your heart — what a completely wonderful thought. And I think it shows us that our mom’s are always with us. Always. Even when we can’t see them. And there is something very comforting in that thought.

@Laurie — Hi Laurie. Your words are wonderful and know that I appreciate them very much. Thank you, Laurie, always, for being so thoughtful in your words and actions. And a very Happy Mother’s Day to you! (and yes, I did write this..my hand at something poetic…) Thank you once again Laurie, you’re giving me a really big head today!

@Evita — Hi Evita. Thank you. On what is touching you here, the dedication — I’m so glad this part touched you. These really are two very special ladies in my life. And glad to hear you had the chance to have lunch with your mom today — a wonderful lady, I’m sure, just like you…

@Robin Easton — Hi Robin. Your words here tonight are very meaningful to me. And they touch me deeply, as in reading your words, I’m reminded even more just how special both of these ladies are to me. And to think about this and with your mother having Alzheimer’s, I’m sure there can be difficult moments. And you’re reminding me to appreciate the time I have with all those I love — as the truth is, we never know when it may be taken away from us. That you hold the soul or your mother with you — Robin, this is beautiful. She will be with you always. And I look forward to you book, and to truly knowing more — you are such a soul-connected person Robin. And that shines through, always, in everything you say. And to your mother, know too that I’m sending much love to her as well. And to you, my friend, love and patience, things I know you already have, I add to your abundance. Continue to be a light in every place you go…

@Positively Present — Thank you! Your words are very kind and I’m deeply grateful.

@Stephen — Hi Stephen, and thank you. I’m sure there will be other times to treat your wife to dinner. Now…to get your daughter to treat…

@Patricia — Hi Patricia. Glad to hear you liked this. There comes a time to move on to a better place, and they have. May you continue to remember both of these ladies, and what they meant in your life. Thank so much for stopping by here today.

@Sami — Hi Sami. Thank you. And your kind words are very much appreciated.

  30. If it wasn’t for my mom I would be an angry lonely man. She gave me the strength to believe in myself and make the most of my talents. Every day I’m amazed by how much she loves me. Of course I love her a million times over too, but a mother’s love for her child is a special love that can never be matched.

@Karl — Hi Karl. Sounds like your mother was a wonderful person and a big influence in your life. And I agree, a mother’s love for their children is something that is so strong I don’t know how it can be matched here on earth.

@Erin — Hi Erin. Thank you, so much! Holding your children close, and giving them the space to spread their wings — awesome! Erin, I hope your day yesterday was filled with many loving moments. I can just tell from what you write how deeply you value these people in your life, and that’s pretty special. So…today’s not Mother’s Day anymore, and I want you to know that you are doing great stuff for those kids in your life — keep being a great mom!

Mother’s Day can also be everyday. Commercialized societies encourage people to recognize mom’s once a year with some appropriate gesture. It is also possible to be more aware of reasons to be grateful for mom and show her you care 365 days of the year. You decide what works for you. Love is the answer.
