Sunday Thought For The Day

Don't wait for the world to change. Fix it.

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ~ Steve Jobs

Hey there Lance. I guess this might just be me! I am up at 2:22 AM trying to make the day last! Trying to get it all done in spite of what the world is telling me.

I am a MAC user so this comment by Steve Jobs is very fitting. He is a brilliant man.

What a great quote to keep me motivated through the night! Wishing you a happy Sunday!

  2. Happy Father’s Day, Lance.

I love the part of the quote where Steve Jobs says, “…the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” Isn’t that the truth? If we believe, anything is possible.

What a great way to start the week. Thank you, Lance.

  4. I enjoy Steve Jobs for what he’s helped our world accomplish in terms of convenience (another Mac user coming your way!). I’m also laughing at this comment because two nights ago a friend of mine said our former coworker commented that I’m a little strange… I guess the fact that I quit a high-paying corporate job in a “bad economy” and love life more every day was enough to make him question my sanity. Well, that and the fact that I’m spending my days chasing down spiritual rainbows!

Brilliant quote. Thanks for sharing it!

I don’t think I’m out to change the world, but maybe I can change a little bit about how people look at LA. Oh, just like every other city, we have our bad points, but to most of the world, those bad points out weigh the good ones.

    Not in my book. :)

So, I might not be changing the world, but I think I’m changing a little of my part of the world.

  10. Morning Lance!

I LOVE this quote by Steve Jobs. I couldn’t agree more with the insight contained in that quote. The common in anything doesn’t do anything. One piece of advice I regularly give people is to be different, to be crazy, to be odd, to go for it. You won’t be noticed if you aren’t different. I think that is the them to everything Seth Godin writes.

  12. Happy Father’s Day, Lance!

I do act in a save the world way and that’s what frustrates me. I forget my baby steps! I have my hands in many things and some people around me have said “you’re everywhere…everything you do stresses me out.” It hurt for a moment until I realized, hey, at least I’m doing something!

Good one today, Lance. Enjoy this Sunday.

  13. One of my favorite quotes. There are those who talk about how the world needs to change and there are those making a difference and doing it daily. One thing I’ve learned is the smallest changes can have the biggest impact.

No single act will go unnoticed and each single act to change the world will help reach the tipping point. It’s great to know our blogging community is out on the cutting edge of being the change we wish to see. Rock on Lance and Happy Father’s Day! That is today isn’t it?

  17. Hi Lance,

Happy Father’s Day to you! May you have an awesome day.

I love Steve Jobs, not only because he has created such cool gadgets but he also seems to be the kind of guy who is in tune with looking at life from an angle that is uncommon. As someone who has spent a good portion of her life being viewed as odd and rebellious, this quote speaks to my heart. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us. :)

Hi Lance and first off Happy Father’s Day to you — hopefully you feel wonderful in that role everyday but even extra special today :)

Great quote and from Steve Jobs too — I really like what he and his whole company stand for, so I really identify with what he says. I think you know by now that I am not exactly a mainstream thinker or follower in most areas of life and I have to say, I like it :) In no sense would I call myself a rebel, but I like the ideas of breaking out of the norm.

    Well enjoy your day :)

YAY Lance — and Steve! Wonderful quote! I celebrate thinking out of the box, coloring outside the lines, and taking the leap like it’s a religion! Add to this quote Nike’s JUST DO IT and how can people whine there is nothing inspiring to be found in their lives? Steve and all mentioned (plus more) are my heros.

I’ve been called crazy, misunderstood and plain out wrong about things, according to others. Though I’m not on a famous level, I’m still delighted with the concept of being outrageously “unique”. I don’t have the need to be right and that is SO liberating. It doesn’t matter to me what people think (of me or what I say/do) as long as they are at least considering the possibilities, stimulating new thoughts, or engaging in SOMEthing.

Still crazy after all these years.….….…(great song)

I think FreakRevolution.com definitely falls under this category of people who are going to change the world, because they’re a little weird. :) I joined a few weeks ago, and I can definitely attest to this powerful force of crazy world changingness.

Happy Fathers day Lance. We love you! :D

  29. Lance says:

@Cricket — Hey Tammy! Yep, I’m saying you ARE a bit crazy! Get some sleep (it’s usually someone telling me that — so really, I appreciate this — it means I’m not the only one with crazy sleep patterns!). Crazy, you are…in a very great way. Keep changing the world Tammy…

@Barbara — Hi Barbara. Thank you! That sure is the truth…even if what we’re doing seems crazy or odd, if we BELIEVE — then it CAN be…and we can change the world, even if it’s a small thing — it’s us really listening and believing in ourselves. That’s pretty great!

@Miz — You know, Carla, I couldn’t help but think of you when I was getting this one ready…specifically for the “mi{z}fits” part. And you live up to it — so here’s to you, for making the positive impact that you are! Mizfit…amazing and awesome!! And thanks much for the father’s day wishes…

@Megan — I’m surrounded by Mac’s — yikes!! (can you tell I’m not a convert yet…)(maybe someday…). Strange? By typical standards, yes you probably are. What do I think? I think this is completely awesome that you’re out there loving life and chasing spiritual rainbows (I love that!)!! Keep on being “strange”!

@LisaNewton — Hi Lisa. So maybe a better way to say this would be to change a part of our world. Because I think that we may not all make great big global changes, but we all can make small changes that have a positive impact in our part of the world. And who knows what that can grow to. And even if it just stays as a small change in your part of the world, think of the positive impacts it’s having right there — so worth it! You do make LA shine, Lisa! What a gift you’re sharing! And thanks much for the Father’s Day wishes!

@Jannie — Hey Jannie. Hey, I think you’re one of them there “weirdos” too! I think I’ve seen a shirt from your neck of the woods that fits this all so well… Thank you Jannie!

@Betsy — Hi Betsy. Thank you! Yes, thanks for pointing out what’s happening in one part of our world, and how difficult this situation is. They are included in my prayers…

  30. Lance says:

@Yum Yucky — Hey Josie. So, your husband…he’s a bit crazy??? (oh…sorry, I meant “unique”). Hey, he married you, what does that say? I know…if he’s crazy in this great sort of way, then being with you makes you way awesome too! “Dads rock!” — I love it!! Thanks Josie!

@Adrenalynn — Hi Adrenalynn. Thank you!! And thanks for stopping in today, it’s always great to have you here.

@Stephen — Hi Stephen. Great point. Do we want to be noticed? Perhaps not always. Yet, on some level, I think we all do. And that means we have to listen to that inner voice…even when it feels like we’re putting ourselves “out there”. Seth Godin is onto something, for sure, in all his writings…and it sure does fit well with this concept.

@Miruspeg — Hi Peggy. I agree, this one speaks volumes!

@Stacey Shipman — Hi Stacey. Thank you! You’re on the right path, my friend. What you’re doing is very very cool and awesome and awe-inspiring! Keep doing that. Will it all work out? I don’t think it matters, as long as you’re out there, being a little bit “on the edge”, and really living your life. I always appreciate your perspective… Enjoy your Sunday too!

@Tess — Hi Tess. I love this point you’re making — about small changes having a big impact. What we do doesn’t have to be “save the world”-sized. It can be small changes, close to home, where we can have the biggest impact. I think of making some sort of impact in one person’s life…how profoundly great this can be — and yet it’s only one person. Just think, though, where that might lead this one person…pretty amazing thought! There are some pretty amazing people out here in the blog world, and being able to interact with them (with you!) is one way to stay “crazy”. Thanks much Tess!!

@Natalia — Hi Natalia. We may say that a person seems crazy, while inside we might be thinking that they are pretty daring, and alive — living what they believe! Some people may be on the fringe, but it’s still something to admire — them really going after something they believe in. Today has been great, Natalia — a nice relaxing day…thanks much!

  31. Lance says:

@Positively Present — Thanks much Dani!

@Erin — Hi Erin. Thank you! Here’s to questioning the rules, and to living life in belief of what can be! Are you one of those? I’m sure you are, Erin! You’re doing some pretty amazing things! And thanks for sharing the Edison quote — how true. We can always find a better way…

@Nadia — Hi Nadia. Thanks so much! Steve Jobs really has done some amazing things, and I really believe it’s because he is a bit crazy, and has “colored outside the lines”. Being thought of as odd or rebellious may not always have been easy. The truth is, though, that I can think of no better way to live — than being truly who we are meant to be. And that will be odd, because we’ll be like no one else. Nadia, you are amazing just the way you are — odd in such great great ways! Keep on being the “you” who listens so closely to her heart…

@Evita — Hi Evita. Thank you! Being a father is a role I very much enjoy, and today, especially, I remember just how important this role is that I play in my children’s lives. Yes, I know you’re not mainstream…and that’s what I love about you — you are “you”, very deeply. And that really evokes in me what can be, and causes me to think more deeply myself, from within. Evita, keep on being the amazing soul you are…I love the direction you’re taking your life in! You are changing the world!

@Suzen — Hi Suzen. Outrageously unique — I LOVE that!! What a great term to celebrate being “you”! And you’re right, it’s not about getting it right all the time. It’s about challenging yourself and others in what might be. I’m cheering you on as you think outside of that box and color outside of those lines! Keep doing this Suzen — it is so refreshing! And it’s so great to have you here, and sharing these words — I find everything you’re saying to be so uplifting!

    @Debbie — Thanks much Debbie!

@Srinivas — Hi Srinivas. And let them keep thinking that you’re a bit crazy. One day…they’ll look at you with envy, at what you’ve done and where it’s taken you! Genius is only one breakthrough away from crazy…

  32. Lance says:

@Davina — Hi Davina. Thank you! Keep on singing Davina! Glad to hear you enjoyed this one…I really did too!

@Patricia/Spiritual Journey of a Lightworker — Hi Patricia. Thank you! This is good stuff! Starting with ourselves…how important. Before we can change the world (or the world around us) we first must be willing to change ourselves. The thing is, somewhere in this whole process, we grow too, along the way. And that’s the awesome part, is that as we make changes in our world, we’re also changing the people that we are…one small step at a time.

@Lynn — Hi Lynn. If people did not have the wherewithall to see things differently…we would be not nearly as advanced as we are today. I love that thought, Lynn! And thanks much for the Father’s Day wishes!

@Laurie — Hi Laurie. Thank you! The world is full of square holes…and you being a round peg is the best thing that can happen to these holes! Doesn’t mean it’s always going to go as planned. That’s okay…in the long run, being true to ourselves (and in the process making changes to the world around us) — this is so much more important. And even just touching your little intersection (which I know you’ve done much more than that) — this can still have a very big impact…as those who have been impacted by you go out and do their own great things because of something you’ve done or said. And that’s a really amazing thought!

@Hilary — Hi Hilary. Thank you! The picture was much harder for this post than I anticipated. Until I came across this one, I just wasn’t finding exactly what I was looking for. So, it’s good to hear you liked it! And yes, we all are changing the world by our being here. What kind of changes are we making? Good, bad, indifferent? Here’s to being a bit crazy and making many positivy impacts in our world!

@Sami — Hi Sami. Woohoo — YES…this is US!! We are crazy!! You are. I am. In fact, this place here today is full of crazies! Keep being your crazy self, my friend… You are amazing!!

Oh this quote SPEAKS to me! I love Steve Jobs and totally relate to this quote!

When I began my journey of telling people about alternative medicine I DID care too much about the nay-sayers but that has gone. I am pushing forward and the more I ignored the nay sayers the more they disappeared. :-) I DO want to change the world and it is beautiful to see so many other people that want the same thing and that are finding their own Divine gifts and are taking action to do it.

I hope you had a wonderful Father’s Day Lance. Thank you for this! Lots of changes and opportunities are presenting themselves to me now and this quote should be up in front of me to KEEP me jazzed about all that’s going on in those times when I feel overwhelmed! ;-)

@Audra — Hi Audra. Thank you, very deeply — this really means a lot to me. I think that these are thoughts that many times we can relate to — and while we’re all not at the same place in life — many are on a path toward greater enlightenment in their lives. Many times, these shared quotes really help to bring focus upon a particular area of that enlightenment. Audra, thanks so much for being here — you’re always a ray of light in my life. And I’m with you…we’re on our way out right now…to change the world!

@Mimi — Hi Mimi. Steve Jobs is very inspiring…and he fits this quote so well! And you do to, my friend. Mimi, I know you are doing some things that are awe-inspiring to me — genius in the works no doubt!

@Hilda — Hi Hilda. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Being a misfit…I’m there with you. And it’s all good. Hilda, keep being this way, don’t change you. And in doing that, you ARE changing the world, into a better place for all of us!

    @Mama Zen — Thank you!

@Tabitha — And I’m smiling right back at you, Tabitha. Great stuff…and it’s you for sure. I know it is! Keep at it…you are doing some wonderful things!

@Jodi — Hi Jodi. Genius…it’s there within all of us. We just have to listen to our heart…and let it out. Thanks for being here today Jodi.

@John Hoff — Hi John. Most definitely…here’s to the crazy ones! Indeed, without some crazy fools in our world, we might still be in the dark ages!

@Jenny Mannion — Hi Jenny. So good to have you here today. And I know you are doing amazing things, and sharing that — making the world so much better along the way! And you’re definitely in an area of expertise that some would see as crazy. And that’s okay, you listen to your heart, my friend, and share as beautifully as you always do — and you ARE changing the world! You are, in so many ways, and in all the lives you positively impacting. Jenny, here’s to you…one of the crazy ones (and I really mean this in only the best possible way, what you’re doing is an amazing gift to our world).

  45. Re: “Indeed, without some crazy fools in our world, we might still be in the dark ages!”

Wanted to send along a link I thought was appropriate for this post. There is a site called The Freak Revolution for just such a purpose — gathering the “freaks” of the world that are taking action to change it. Here’s the link: http://freakrevolution.com/
No offense taken — my 6 year old daughter will tell you I tell my kids “it’s GOOD to be crazy — being “normal” would be just too boring”.

And…like mother, like daughter! In fact…I’m sure you have a couple of them geniuses-in-the-making at your house! Jenny, you have such a knack for bringing out the crazy-good genius in everyone you touch. Thanks for being here…

@Cath — Hi Cath. Continue to be crazy, to be seen as a misfit…you ARE doing great things, and that’s because you spend some time out there on the “fringe”…

@Janice — Hi Janice. Hey, I’m a quote addict too! Maybe you’ve noticed that here!! We could be in the same support group… Here’s to the misfit in all of us, finding a way out…

@Liara — Hi Liara. Oh, how true! That reminds me of a quote by Gandhi that I love: “You must be the change you want to see in the world”. It starts with us…

    @Tess,
I like the difference you point out about those who “talk” and those who “do.”

Action is so important, reminds me of the three frogs story:

Three frogs are sitting on a log, one decides to jump. How many are left? Three, the frog made a decision but took no action.

I just sort of had an Aha moment… (really, just now!) The saying talk is cheap just sort of now clicked and means soo much more than just a cliché. It is cheap, action by doing takes commitment, time, dedication, and passion.

@Ian — Hi Ian. Great quote, and how true! How many things that seemed impossible that it was foolish to even think about — have come to be. And that means there are people behind these ideas…the crazy ones who continued to believe…

@Jannie — Jannie…as long as we’re talking nuts, make mine almonds! Or…maybe we should be talking cherries…as in red…as in — you’re making me blush! Really though — no party is complete without you ( you’re the entertainment in more ways than one!).

@Jared — Hi Jared. The frogs and no action — what a great example. And so fitting. We can have grand ideas, plans to “change the world” — but they’re just that until we take action. Great point to remember. And talk being cheap — you’ve really hit upon something here Jared. We can all talk a big story. How many of us are willing to go “up to bat” though? The true crazy ones…who find genius…

@Caroline — Hi Caroline. You’re always welcome here…always! Here’s to the misfits in the world!!

@J.D. Meier — Great thought, J.D. What we value does play into shaping our lives. Lots to think about here, thanks.

Hi Lance, I really enjoyed your Steve Jobs quote. You sure have a knack for finding just the right quotes that appeal to a lot of people. @Diane C. — Hi Diane. We may try to fit in, but the truth is that we are all different. That’s a good point Diane. Maybe it’s a degree to how much you really let the “real you” out. Whether that’s a misfit, being crazy, or just simply “being you” — that’s the place where we should be. Because, after all, the best place for us, is where we are truly being ourselves…

@Jared — Hi Jared. Oh, that’s good stuff Jared! How often do we “know”…how many times does our heart really speak to us, and we choose to ignore it? And what are we missing because of that? And what is the world missing because of that?

@JenX– Hi Jen. Thanks so much for stopping by here! Believing in ourselves, so important. Because when we believe in “us”, we are more willing to really let that misfit within out. And when she’s out, great things can happen!
