  1. Is it narcissistic to think this was written just for ME? Of course it is! This is for each and every one of us and lifts my soul in such a song of joy. I’m so happy now, how will I ever get to sleep? :)

  10. You know, when I started doing this on a full-time basis four or five months ago, just like the quote said, I was overwhelmed at what came back. I truly believe that every action we take from the heart yields tenfold itself in return. The best part is, when I’m operating solely from love, it doesn’t matter if anything comes back or not — I’m satisfied simply with what I’ve done.

There is no greater energy in this life than love.

Speaking of that, I love the new header, Lance, and your tagline. Having just come from the mountains, I can really relate to everything I saw here today! Happy Sunday!

  12. Lance says:

@Jannie — Are you sleeping yet, Jannie?? And coming from the heart…that is a place of deep joy!

@Suzie — Hi Suzie. The sky is very magical, and so awe-inspiring! I think it’s just how vast it seems. And it’s like it engulfs us, and that is such an awesome feeling! And then — when we do those things that come from our heart, wow! It just feels like the right place to be — and that is very much, a joy-filled place!

@CG Walters — Thank you, CG!

@Caity — Hi Caity. “Tuesday’s with Morrie” is a favorite book of mine too, and one I’ve read more than once. Even in death and dying, it’s such a moving story of life and living. And this passage, especially, I find deeply moving — this reminder that doing the things that come from our heart, this is such a good place for us to be.

    @Jeanne — Thank you Jeanne!

@Dr. Rus — Thanks much, Dr. Rus!

@Joanna — Hi Joanna. When we give from our heart, we are coming from a place that holds so much love. And it’s then and there, where we do it without envy, that we feel that deep joy. And then, when it comes back to us, in ways that can be hard to fully fathom — wow! Joanna, you do this, I know you do…

@Diane — Hi Diane. Yes, me too! Giving “just because”…just because it feels right in our heart. Being in that place is so good for our soul — because it connects us to who we are, deep within. And it’s there that it doesn’t matter what we get in return — it’s just in being able to fully give.
@Megan — It’s so amazing, isn’t it Megan! when we listen to what our heart speaks, and do that fully — without feeling like we “need” something in return — that’s when we’re so taken aback by what does happen. And how the universe just seems to feed our own heart back in amazing ways! So, so great! And Megan, thank you for your kind words on the header. I think the new tagline fits better with where I’m at and what I’m doing. Your wonderful words are so appreciated! Thank you!!

@Yum Yucky — Hi Josie. And that’s such a big part of this, for me, too — that these words that are shared, are also so good for me to read. And to let them soak in to my soul. And really consider what their meaning is, to me. It’s so good to have you here Josie…

  30. jan says:

Wonderful! Lance, I have found this to be absolutely true. And it often seems as if the less I consider myself or what I will get from something, the more DOES come back. Generosity reigns, as does living from the heart. I am so glad that you lead from your heart. When any of us do, we give others permission to do the same…It seems to send out ripples and more ripples. I love the notion of ripples that become swells that bring positive growth and change.…

And I am so looking forward to your visit on my blog this week. Do you realize that you are my first male guest?

  31. Lance,
That’s great advice from Morrie. I believe Mitch Albom, author of Tuesdays with Morrie just came out with another book of wisdom.

To paraphrase the quote the next time I feel, unhappy, envious or greedy I need only to open my heart. It’s a simple solution to feelings of “not enough.”

Coming from a family of 10 children one of my core beliefs is “there’s not enough for me.” We use to eat dinner together and if you could see 20 hands grabbing for food at the same time you’d see why. I’m not counting the hands of my parents because they were always trying to pass things and teach us manners. Didn’t work. The private prayer of us kids was “Father, Son and Holy Ghost who eats the fastest gets the most.” LOL

Anyway I love the quote, thanks for brightening my morning and reminding me there is enough for all especially the ones with their hearts open and their hands extended!

  32. That’s a much needed quote. I noticed that I feel less regret when I say and do things that come from the heart rather than just saying or doing things to impress others—maybe because when I say and do things that come from the heart, they are usually much more meaningful.

  33. lori says:

Lance, where do you find such awesome photography and words of wisdom?
I appreciate the time you take to find such precious gems for us!

I’ve embarked on a mission this year to do as much for others as I can muster and the results have been astounding. And I’m talking about fairly little things that I’ve changed, like hand-crafted birthday cards, an extra note or personalized photo mailed, extra time to listen to others (where, normally I’d be “too busy”), or helping others move forward in their personal endeavors. Once I stopped worrying about what I’d “get” from what I was doing and simply do things for others to lend a hand (or a heart), the beauty in my life multiplied exponentially.

Your post today said volumes. I LOVE how you do that!

  34. Hi Lance,
This is a wonderful quote and I really like the picture you chose to go with it as well. Just yesterday I had some time to myself. I’m trying to ready myself for a small trip I’m taking so I spent the majority of my free time running errands. I started to feel depleted–and realized I was doing busy work and nothing that actually truly mattered for my trip preparations. I looked at my list again and asked myself what would truly satisfy me-what would fill my heart and the hearts of others I care for–and ended up having a much better day. I did a little “artist’s date” for me, bought a gift for someone I care for, bought a book for my boys, read a book, ate an awesome early dinner and came home to watch a movie. These are minor examples of what your quote speaks to but the point is the same. Living from the heart puts everything in its proper perspective!

@Melly — Hey Melly! “Tuesday’s with Morrie” is a favorite of mine, too — and one I’ve read more than once. It’s so real, and so true — not sugar-coated. And filled with so many wonderful thoughts. And I agree, it’s so easy to be swayed in the ways of the world — and those directions may not be the directions of our heart. Melly, it’s so good seeing you here today…much love right back to you, awesome friend!

@Jenny Mannion — Hi Jenny. I see this so much in you…so it’s much more than trying, it’s love in action! And sure, we all have setbacks, no matter where we are along this path. And that’s okay, especially when we can recognize them and move beyond. You give so many beautiful gifts, Jenny. So, really — thank you for being the caring and compassionate person you are! And much love to you too, Jenny…

@Lynn — Hi Lynn. And what a wonderful thing, and look how it’s just stayed with you. When someone does something directly from their heart, it is so touching. Thanks so much for sharing this story…

@Stacey Shipman — Thanks much, Stacey! And thank you, very deeply, for your comments on the header changes. It’s interesting how it all happened. I decided to play around with some changes, not sure exactly where I’d go with it. And I was bouncing ideas around, solid colors, photos, jungle, etc, etc. And I wasn’t finding anything I really liked. Then I decided to just look through some of our own pictures, and the Mount Rainier photo really jumped out at me…and then almost instantly, so did the idea to change the tagline. And it just all seemed “right” and “good”… So, thank you, very much for noticing!

@Karl — What a great story, Karl! And I see it, too — you’re work out there showing your heart, shining through! And that is a gift to the world! Keep on listening to your heart, and the great things you’ve already started will just continue to multiply!

@Angelia — Ah, what a beautiful thought, Angelia! Our heart IS such a beautiful guide because it’s touches upon the Spirit within us, and to what God has given. Wow! Pretty amazing stuff, isn’t it!

@South Beach Steve — Thanks much, Steve!

  41. Lance says:

@Srinivas — Hi Srinivas, and thank you! When we give without expecting something in return, an amazing thing happens…and we are blessed in more ways than we ever knew possible! Isn’t that great!

@Diane AZ — Hi Diane. I love the line “he heart is simple and pure.”. Thanks so much for writing this! It’s so true, our heart knows…

@Akemi — Hi Akemi. Yes, this is “Tuesday’s with Morrie”, a great book! Thanks much!

@Positively Present — Thanks much, Dani!

@Caroline — Ah, yes…not always easy, for sure — following your heart when your head is saying something different. I know! And it’s a journey, for all of us, getting closer to that spot of listening truly to our heart…

@Diantha — Hi Diantha. And I LOVE the way you used the word “peak”! This new tagline just really came to me as I was looking at the picture I ended up using, a picture I took while visiting Mount Rainier last summer. So, thank you, very much, for all of this!

@Evita — Hi Evita. When we do things from the love within our heart, beautiful things happen. And that is indeed gold, and even more! Because it’s so real, and so alive within us, this feeling of love — how connecting that is to our soul. And I really loved this photo too, especially with the light shining through the clouds — like the love shining from our hearts. And thank you, so much, for all you’ve said about the changes to the header. It wasn’t even something I thought about and planned out, so much, as I just really listened to my heart in bringing it together. And then the tagline just flowed so freely once I connected with the image I was going to use. And I knew…as soon as I wrote it, that it’s what the tagline should be, for me — with where I’m at right now. Thank you, very deeply, for your caring and kind thoughts…

  42. Lance says:

@Nadia — Hi Nadia. Thank you! I love how the light shine out from this picture, much like our hearts when we really listen to them! You do this, in everything I see, Nadia. The heart is where true happiness resides, and being there is so deeply good for us — because it connects us to what really matters..to us individually. And as I read all these wonderful comments today, I am assured that all is awesome, and our world is filled with so many deeply caring souls.…

@Carla — Hi Carla. And…I think this is a good reminder for all of us, no matter where we fall on this continuüm. If we could all just let these words permeate our, even just a little bit, each day — what a beautiful world we would live in, as we all continue to move toward more authentic living…

@Vanessa — Hi Vanessa. When love is at the center, wow! It’s such an amazing thing to witness…seeing love in action. Real love. Love that doesn’t boast, or envy, or want. Love that just is… So, so incredible! Thanks so much for visiting and sharing here!

@Jan — Hi Jan. And when we’re not so concerned about what we’re getting back, life and it’s beauty seem to give us back so much more than even seems possible sometimes. And that is the beauty of generosity and love working in tandem. And I love the “ripples” thought here…so good to think about, and how what each of us does, how that can go out and spread itself into the world. Which begs to question, what kind of ripples are we sending out? I know that you, Jan, are sending ripples of love that reach to so many places! And it’s so great to witness this! And thank you for your kind and gracious words here today. And…no, I didn’t realize I would be your first male guest — very awesome! I’m really looking forward to sharing this piece!

@Tess — Hi Tess. And thanks for the heads up on a new book from Mitch Albom — his “Tuesday’s With Morrie” is a favorite of mine. Opening our heart when we have those feeling that aren’t so positive…Tess, I love this idea. I know this could be hard for me to do, too. Still, even if it only works 1/3 of the time, that’s still better than none. Awesome! And thanks much for sharing our your family experience growing up. The prayer you shared did make me laugh out loud!!!

@Tim Enalls — Hi Tim. Yes, if we could all just even do what this quote says just a little bit more, how much better that would make our whole world. Coming from the heart has so much more meaning. And thank you for sharing that thought, it’s one that’s good for all of us to embrace, just what our hearts are saying…

@Lori — Hi Lori. Well…the truth is, sometimes a quote or picture comes quickly, and I just know it’s the right one to use. More often, though, it’s a look at what my heart is saying to me, at that moment, and then trying to find something that matches that. And that’s not always easy. It is, though, always worth it. Because I believe that when I can connect deeply with what I’m sharing, that’s the right place for me, and maybe this sounds weird, but I also think that other people somehow connect onto that…like there’s some sort of bond between your heart and mine, when these words are read by you. And that’s very moving for me…whether it really happens or not, in my heart, it does. And Lori, thank you for sharing about your own personal journey over this past year. What a beautiful story of your year! Lori, thank you so much for being here, and for giving all that you do — you are an amazing woman!

@Jodi — Hi Jodi. I love this picture, too! Something about the light shining through just feels like the light that comes from our heart, when we really listen to what our heart speaks. And thank you, so much, for sharing about your day yesterday. What a wonderful example of getting back to those things which matter the most…recognizing that…and then living from your heart. Beautiful! And thank you so much — about the header and tagline. It’s something that really speaks to me right now, and feels so much like the “right” thing. You too, have a wonderful week, and enjoy the trip you have coming up!

@Sami — Hi Sami. Thank you! The new tagline and header were really something that came about almost by accident. I was playing around with the header, and just loved the mountain scene when I was trying that out…and then, the whole thought of the tagline just came about. And it felt so right. So, know that your noticing this means the world to me! Sami, you are a great friend, and it’s an honor always to have you here!

@Tabitha — Hi Tabitha. Your heart shines, and I’ve witnessed that in the many beautiful ways you give so freely. So…we all have moments where we feel like we’ve “lost it”. And what a great support system you do have, and that’s something that can make all the difference in the world! So glad to hear you’re “back”, my friend…

@Laurie — Hi Laurie, and thank you! I’ve seen this in you, too — living from your heart, and caring deeply. And it’s such a wonderful thing to witness! You shine, my friend!

@Keith — Hi Keith. I love the color and light in this photo…so amazing! And I think that’s what shines from our heart, when we really connect. And I love the thought you’ve shared — about what you notice in yourself depending upon how you respond to a given situation. So true… thanks much for sharing!

    @Jess — Thanks much, Jess!

@Walter — Hi Walter. Yes, the mind…something that can easily override our heart’s desires. And that isn’t necessarily something easy to overcome. Maybe it’s in taking small steps toward listening to your heart…in those moments where it feels safe to do that. Walter, you can do this…I know you can. And in whatever happens, keep always believing in “you”…the amazing “you” that you are!

  45. Marelisa says:

Hi Lance: This is so true. Being jealous of others for what they have not only makes us feel bad, it also interferes with our ability to get what we want. When we put our attention on giving value based on our own unique gifts and talents, everything that we need and want is given to us.

  46. Wilma Ham says:

When you give, you experience abundance, because you will find there is enough to share.
When you do kind things, you access the heart and you access your own love and abundant goodness. It is like going into the store room and finding all kinds of hidden goodies you did not know were there.
Oh if only when we were miserable we would remember this.
This morning things did not go well and until I got a hug, I was on the way to a not so fine day.
First I did not even respond to the hug, too annoyed, but when I did respond to the kindness I accessed my own heart too and the day was fine and the problem solvable.
Ha, you are spot on Lance, in the jungle we need a heart. Love Wilma

    Lance,
What a beautiful picture–so radiant and full of light, love, hope, peace…all of the fruits of Spirit just burst forth from it. Thank you:)
My entire life I’ve lead with my heart, it’s what I do and how I live–along the way I’ve been hurt, misunderstood, misled, discouraged…ah but I’ve been loved and blessed abundantly, experienced true bliss and joy in every day, stretched beyond imagination by faith… now recently my heart has been “awakened” and it is an absolutely amazing stage to be in:)

  48. Tim says:

    Hi Lance:

Thanks for sharing the quote. Morrie Shwartz was an awesome teacher. I remember watching his story on ABC’s Nightline before he passed away…one of the most touching things I’ve ever seen. BTW, Lance I really like your new header and tagline.

  49. Hi Lance,

There’s all kinds of beauty here today. A new header, a new tagline, a beautiful image and a fabulous quote to go along with it all.

You make Sundays fantastic. Thank you for that, Lance.

  50. Lance says:

@Marelisa — Hi Mare. Right on, we’re all different and have different gifts to offer. So, jealousy only takes us away from the true depths of our heart. And then we lose focus on what makes us uniquely who we are. Getting that focus on our inner being, and acting out in love…and amazing things began to happen!

@Wilma — Hi Wilma. Yes, a mentality of abundance vs scarcity. There is enough for everyone! And I know…it’s not always easy to “live” this out. Some days, in the throes of life, listening to our heart can be the last thing from our mind. If we can somehow get back there, to where we connect with our heart, though, wow! What a turn around that can be! Just like the story you’ve shared — thank YOU! Much love back to you too…

@Joy — Hi Joy. “…fruits of the Spirit just burst forth…” ~ what a beautiful description of that picture! And thanks so much for sharing what you have, Joy. When we lead with our heart, that’s not to say it’s all going to be rosy and perfect — it’s not. Bad things can still happen. But very wonderful things will happen too. And it’s so worth it, to live from our heart…in true connection with our soul…

@Tim — Hi Tim. I’ve only read about Morrie Schwartz, and haven’t heard him speak. I can only imagine how moving that must have been to have watched. Such an amazing man, and with his view of life! And thanks much, Tim, about the changes here. It feels like the right direction based upon where I’m at on this journey, the message this new header portrays…

@Barbara — Hi Barbara. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank YOU!! Barbara, I appreciate so much all you’ve done to help me along the way — you’re awesome!

Hi Lance .. what a fantastic picture from bubble dumpster! & what a name! I love the quote — we should be doing things from the heart — as we do them, we’ll be experiencing the pleasure and share the fun .. bringing those attributes to others.
