May I Suggest

May I suggest
May I suggest to you
May I suggest this is the best part of your life
May I suggest
This time is blessed for you
This time is blessed and shining almost blinding bright
Just turn your head
And you’ll begin to see
The thousand reasons that were just beyond your sight
The reasons why
Why I suggest to you
Why I suggest this is the best part of your life

There is a world
That’s been addressed to you
Addressed to you, intended only for your eyes
A secret world
Like a treasure chest to you
Of private scenes and brilliant dreams that mesmerise
A lover’s trusting smile
A tiny baby’s hands
The million stars that fill the turning sky at night
Oh I suggest
Oh I suggest to you
Oh I suggest this is the best part of your life

There is a hope
That’s been expressed in you
The hope of seven generations, maybe more
And this is the faith
That they invest in you
It’s that you’ll do one better than was done before
Inside you know
Inside you understand
Inside you know what’s yours to finally set right
And I suggest
And I suggest to you
And I suggest this is the best part of your life

This is a song
Comes from the west to you
Comes from the west, comes from the slowly setting sun
With a request
With a request of you
To see how very short the endless days will run
And when they’re gone
And when the dark descends
Oh we’d give anything for one more hour of light

And I suggest this is the best part of your life

~ Susan Werner

You don’t know how much I needed to hear that right now…

So funny about that one hour of light…I turned mine off tonight and sat in the quiet with only candles. What a difference that made.

Many blessings to you on this day.

Good morning, Lance. Thank you for the Sunday Thoughts of the Day that you share with us every week. They are always a beautiful start to my Sunday. This was a lovely reminder today of how blessed, miraculous, and mysterious every minute is (and every second of every minute). I am going to go now and spend the best part of my life at a café by the sea with G, the most wonderful husband in the world. Will raise a glass to you and yours, as well, and the best days of your lives.

    Much love this Palm Sunday,

  6. Good morning Lance,

Got here early for once. 5:43 am on a Sunday Morning on Palm Sunday and I thought, Hm, Wonder what Lance posted…

Great song. It speaks right to my heart this morning as step by step I walk closer to my half century birthday in a few weeks. I keep getting these comments… to the tune of..Wow, 50, are you freaking out? and the answer in my heart is no. I feel so blessed, like this is truly the best part of my life. I think I just found my Birthday Theme Song.
    Thanks!

  7. Lance! Olé buddy Olé Pal…
    A. I LOVE Susan Werner. She definitely reminds me of other ‘best part of my life’ memories :)
    B. The whole family sat with me this morning watching your thought for the day. With my son’s curly haired head resting on my shoulder I thought. ” Heck ya, this is one of the past parts of my life. Thanks for asking me to take a moment to really celebrate it today!
    C. And the celebration will continue today not with chocolate chip cookies, or ice cream, but it is Maine Maple Sunday! mmmm maple syrup donuts, granola. everything!

    Be well and shine brightly.

  8. Hilda says:

Lance, this is so perfect!!! Inside I do know that if I allow it to be, this is indeed the best time of my life :-)

  9. Mindful Mimi says:

    Lance,
Thank you for making me discover Susan Werner. IN my parts of the world I had never heard of her.
And how true her words are. I was in the pool with my sons this morning and I was teaching them how to bob on the water on their backs. When they had kind of mastered that they’d come over to me, half sit on me, half hug me, all wet and smiles… and I was thinking: this is it, this is what I love, this is the best part of my life. And funny enough, there are such parts every day if we can only see them, recognize them and give them the value they deserve.
Thanks Lance and have a great Sunday. Go hug a tree :-)

  10. Joy Tanksley says:

Hey Lance. I’m new around here. Thank you so very much for this gift. One of my favorite quotes has always been this one by Jon Kabat-Zinn: “Is it possible for you to contemplate that in a very real way, this may actually be the best season, the best moment of your life?” This is such a powerful concept. It can totally transfrom us. How wonderful to find it expressed in this gorgeous song!

    Love and light to you!

  11. Lynn says:

I had my first face time with my 2-month old great niece this weekend and her sudden big grin at me was such a lovely peaceful moment. Yes — this is it — life is blessed.

  12. And so the cynical side of me comes out and says, “of course this is the best time of my life, because it’s all I’ve got!” Sometimes I wonder what we’re searching for. I’ve searched, and eventually found everything I need within me. Every day is different, ups and downs, but regardless every time there is a “challenge” I become so much stronger. And even that is the best part of life.

As I sit here on a quiet Sunday morning, writing, reading and starting slow, this is absolutely the best part of life. And today’s thought is a great suggestion…

    Happy Sunday, Lance!

  23. Hi Lance,

First, thanks for the music therapy this morning — absolutely beautiful.

Second, as I’m dealing with ‘things’ right now, pondering how this could possibly be the best part of my life, this part of the song really hit me,
    “There is a hope
    That’s been expressed in you
The hope of seven generations, maybe more”

And, I’m thinking, my great-grandparents moved to a different continent for a better life, and with the tribulations they had to endure to because their choice — back breaking work and deep doubts, with children in tow — I owe it to those seven generations to give this life my best shot.

Thanks for the inspiration today, Lance. You are all that is good in this world.

  25. Joy says:

    Lance,
    How beautiful!
The sun is shining, the day is fresh and new. *This* absolutely is the best part of my life right now. *This* is the present moment that I am in, exactly as it is, with the resources I have right now. It all changes with external, but my internal faith and all that is me is shining, and *absolutely enough* to celebrate this moment. Each moment, exactly as it is given to me. I am thankful and appreciative to be right where I am, exactly as i am. Thank you for that reminder:)
    Enjoy this beautiful day:)

  26. Angelia Sims says:

It is beautiful that we can choose how we live. We can choose to see the blessings. To grab hold of life and live with eyes open to the beauty that lifts us up. The struggles that make us whole. To be here and now and to not miss it. It reminds me of my favorite verse. “Take hold of the life that is truly life” 1 Timothy 6:19

  31. Lance says:

@Caroline — Earth hour. And sometimes…in the darkness, there is light… May today be filled with moments that really feel like “best parts”…

@Suzie — Suzie, you have touched upon something that I think is elusive today…this concept of living in the now. And I think that even sometimes when we say it and have every intention of doing just that…we still let moments slip by. And every day can have something great…every day.… Suzie, your thoughts are so good around this.

@Chania Girl — Hi Carla. As I type this, I am imagining you, in your beautiful country and with your husband, sitting at that café overlooking the sea. What a beautiful image! May all your moments be ones that connect to you, and may this day and always be a treasure of goodness. Carla, you are a beautiful and shining light. So, on this Palm Sunday…and always…much love to you, dear friend…

@Jeanne — Thank you so much for being here!

@Miz — Miz…it is great, always, having you here! Have a wonderful week…

@Wendi — Hi Wendi. It’s great having you here WHENEVER that happens to be!! And…I LOVE your attitude! It shall be a celebration, Wendi! A celebration of YOU and all the amazing beauty you bring to this world!

@Katie — Hey Katie. I love this song, and it’s one that is new to me in just the last few months. And the image of your son on your lap is precious. Being surrounded by a loving family is truly one of life great moments…and one that can last a lifetime. I hope the donuts were all sorts of sweet…just like YOU!

  32. Lance says:

@Hilda — What I love about what you are saying, Hilda — is the use of the word “allow”. That’s it…when we “allow” ourselves to just be (in the moment) — there is so much there. And…daylight saving time…it came two weeks ago here. I have a hard time keeping track of that…it seems different every year! Anyway…yay! for more daylight hours!

@Mimi — Susan Werner was new to me just a couple of months ago. Beautiful song and lyrics. And that is it…moments with those we love are moments that are so precious and wonderful. Cherish all of them, Miranda, and at all stages as your boys continue to grow. Happy Sunday, tree hugger friend!

@Joy Tanksley — Hi Joy. And welcome!! I love the quote you have shared. I think this takes a lot of looking within…and really grasping who we are. And really, all we have is this very moment. Right now. Thanks so much for being here and sharing so wonderfully!

@Lynn — The joy that comes from a baby is such a gift…because there is no pretense behind it. It is all real. And that makes it so, so beautiful. Enjoy the moments you have with your niece…all of them… Life is all sorts of wonderful!

@Stacey Shipman — As I read your comment, a quote comes to mind: “I don’t believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive.” ~ Joseph Campbell. And it’s all part of the journey for each of us. Through all the highs and lows that come our way…are we alive to these moments? Perhaps that’s really the journey…one where we reach that place.…that place that maybe we have experienced as a child, or in moments throughout our life…where we have been completely in the moment, alive to all that it holds. The best part of life is in this NOW, whatever that is for each of us. And Stacey, your quiet Sunday morning sounds like a wonderful way to start the day…

@Nadia — Hi Nadia. That sure is the truth!! And as you have touched upon life…what a wonderful thing…just being alive! Really, our bodies are so amazing…so to be here, on this earth, in this beautiful creation we have been given…what a great, great thing! Nadia, what a wonderful thought!

@Darren — Hi Darren. Thanks much! And may your day, too, be filled with much goodness…

  33. Lance says:

@Zeenat — Hi Zeenat. I wonder…if it all goes back to this idea that we are all connected…and in that…we all help each other. Because I know for sure, that you have shone your light upon me so many, many times. And just seeing you here is always a comforting feeling. Zeenat, thank you so much for the beautiful love you share. Peace and love always…

@Tess — Great stuff, isn’t it!! And I love the quote that Joy shared, too! Have a wonderful rest of your day!

@Evita — Hi Evita. Susan Werner’s music is pretty new to me…I just discovered her in the last few months. And I just love this song. Change is one of those things that can bring up all sorts of emotions…from the good and exciting to the fears and questioning. And yet…what we have is now. Wherever we are in our lives. And that’s all good. So, I know that in your heart…deep within…you know what feels right. I know you do, Evita. And that is the best part of life, when you are connecting to that “deeper within”.…

@Tim — Hi Tim. We are alive…and that is a gift, right there. Maybe some moments don’t feel too gift-like. And yet, it’s that moment that we have…as good or as bad as it is. And in it all…we can step away better for having been there.…

    @Mama Zen — Thanks much!

@Heph — They really are nice lyrics, aren’t they!

@Ellen — Ahhh.…a bright blue sunny day! What a wonderful way to start the day! And I happen to think…even on those grey days…we can create our own sunshine…and make every day beautiful! Anyway…I love the thoughts, Ellen!! As I look outside on what has become a cloudy afternoon.…I still see the sunshine in life…and you are helping to remind me of that.…

@Lori — Hi Lori. I have let these words soak into my soul this past week. The lyrics are beautiful, and Susan Werner sings them so wonderfully. Whew. So, I want you to know, Lori…that everything I see from you really just shines love. And I know, too, that life isn’t always easy…and probably doesn’t even seem fair. And I look at you, and I read what you have said here…know that I am with you on this road…and that you have my support and love always… Lori, thank you for being so open, and really…for your deep and caring friendship.

@Megan — Hi Megan. May I suggest…you are onto something. If each of us…everyone in the world…saw the beauty of the moment…what a powerful movement that would be! And it would change the world…

@Joy — Hi Joy. I love how you have focused on what is within. When we come from that spot, and focus on our moments…what a beautiful place to come from.

@Angelia — The Bible verse you have quoted fits so well with this…and is a beautiful reminder of what life we are truly grabbing hold of. What are we choosing to see? It IS a choice.…what we take from any moment…or how truly into that moment we are. Angelia, thanks so much for sharing all you have here today…

@Audra — Hey Vegas Girl!!!! Reaching that place of trust…of deep trust…is such a good place to be. And sometimes we may not think we have that. Or that we have someone who is always there…who always loves us. We do, though…through a God who loves and cares for everyone, equally.… Audra, you always help to remind me of what is truly important.

@Cheryl — Hi Cheryl. These words can touch us at our soul. And that is perfect and beautiful…and such a great place to be at. Thanks much, Cheryl, for being here today.

@Nethra — Hi Nethra. As I think of that line about the extra light…I’m drawn into just being connected more deeply with the light that is within…and then noticing when it is gone…how much it truly is missed.

@Barbara — Today IS a gift…even when it sometimes doesn’t feel like a gift… We are alive, we are here, in this world. And that alone is a gift. Barbara, you always impart your wisdom so well every time you visit. Know that you, too, are a gift in my life. (and thank you, very deeply, for your wonderful words today)

@Deb — Hi again Deb!!! I think Audra is visiting Vegas…although the desert is still her home… And — I am listening to the song again, too — right now. I love it!!

@Karl — Our lives really are wonderful. Sure, there are moments that may not seem all that great. Still, we are alive, we are here, and we are the person we are…all pretty amazing! Enjoy the barefoot walks in the grasss…and I’ll probably wait just a few more weeks before I do that!

Oh Lance! You’re starting to freak me out with knowing just what I need to hear and when I need to hear it! :) This is the best time of my life. How true! This past week I’ve had the opportunity to visit my past. Through facebook I found some old friends, and it surprised me how off kilter I felt after finding them. I spent a lot of time this week thinking about my life and what it might have been like if different choices had been made. I went to a funeral of a long time family friend on Saturday, and I saw a lot of old, old friends, again putting me in the past, but also in a strange way putting me into the future and the unknown.

To me the reason that right now is the best time of my life is because it’s all I really have AND it’s so full of possibility. And, so full of love and life! I’m glad to be back in the present and enjoying the fruit of my choices, my husband, wonderful, wonderful man that he is. My son! It doesn’t get much better than this!

Thanks Lance! Hope that you have a great week!!! :)

  45. Lance says:

@J.D. Meier — That’s it!! What we have is NOW. And when we see the good in the moment (no matter what that moment is)…that’s a great place to be.

@Natalia — Hi Natalia. Maybe I should get into mind reading!!!! So…can we sometimes judge ourselves based upon what we see in others? Sure, I think so. I have done this. Shoot…I still do it. And the thing is — what we are seeing is only one part of these other people (and probably a glowing part). Those choices we make…that have led us to where we are…we can’t change them. What we can change is how we go forward from here. Natalia, you shine in sharing so honestly here today. I think so many of us can relate to this (and not say it out loud publicly). So…thank you, dear friend, for all you have written today. This is indeed our best life, right now. You are a sweet and caring soul…and it is good to have you here today. And keep on savoring all those moments you have with your son and husband…

@Jannie — Hey Jannie!! Wow, so there!!! I’ve learned something new today — where Kerrville is! And that it is a very cool and awesome place (if you love it…then I know it’s all sort of awesome!). Jannie…you too, my friend…are what makes my life wonderful and awesome!!!

@Hilary — Hi Hilary. Life is indeed good. And beautiful. And the words in this song really are deeply moving for me. Thanks much for being here today.…

@Vanessa — This is just a great song!! And — beautiful that this is exactly where you see your journey now. Vanessa…your words are infectious with all that is right and good in this world!!

Thank you for the introduction to this music and musician — it was greatly appreciated.

I’ve waited for a day and a half to hear this! I love your Sunday posts. And this one… you always know how to touch on to something special that clicks with all of us. These are thoughts that I struggle with, but I also find inspiration and hope from these words, so thank you!

  50. Lance says:

@Sagan — The present is it!! Thanks for being here Sagan!

@Patricia — It’s beautiful music…and Susan Werner sings it so, so well. Thanks Patricia!

@Adrenalynn — …and it’s great to have you here today!! (and whenever you can make it!) I think it clicks because in a way, we can all relate to this idea that this moment…now…is what we have. I struggle, too. It’s easy to say that I’ll be fully present in this moment…this now…and it’s something completely different sometimes “in the moment”. This idea, though, that this is the best part…well…it really means to me that this is what I have. And I really love that thought. Thanks much, buddy!! You are a shining light here…

@Jody — Jody…you are SWEET!!! So…thank YOU! And — I hope the craziness lets up for you… Thanks for all your support, sweet friend…

  51. FatFighterTV says:

Hey Lance! Thanks for the beautiful song. I have never heard of Susan Werner — how did you find her?

  52. Lauren says:

    Lance,

Absolutely beautiful! And what is most wonderful is that so many of us get it that life is a tremendous gift. I want to reach out and embrace life and all the gifts it offers.

    Thanks for this inspiring reminder!

    Be well!
    Lauren

  54. Lance says:

@FatFighterTV — Hey Sahar! The song IS beautiful…both the lyrics and the voice of Susan Werner. I don’t even remember how I stumbled upon Susan and her music. This song, though, just really goes to my core, in such a good way.

@Lauren — Hi Lauren. Life really IS a tremendous gift!! What a beautiful thought! And when we embrace that, and really let it become part of us…wow!

@Greg — Hi Greg! Well, that is such a great point! When I think of Easter, I think very much of LIFE. And that thought alone is one that is filled with what BEST is — life itself…

  55. We sat around a camp fire last night in the cold and it was beautiful. This poem reminded me of it so much.
