The Power Of A Smile

“There are hundreds of languages in the world, but a smile speaks them all.” ~ Author unknown

I’m walking down the street.  Someone smiles.

Someone smiles!

…and I feel an instant lift in my own spirit…a connection (if but for a brief second) to another…a connection to something greater than just myself…

The power of something so simple, so free, so a part of each of us.…

…the power of a smile!

Please enjoy the video above, created in conjunction with The Levity Project.

One world, one smile.

As you go forth in your days, in the moments that are your life, may the smile that is within your soul shine brightly.  And may you also experience the joy that comes from the genuine smiles of those whose paths you cross.

Peace.

Love.

Unity.

This is lovely — thank you for sharing it Lance. It was good to see you and your family popping from behind the tree!

I just wrote this earlier this morning on my blog: »My beloved uncle worked until just one month ago at the age of 86. He managed a parking garage for an office building in downtown Macon, Georgia. He passed away last week after a brief illness and it was so lovely to see the comments from patrons of the parking garage on the online “guest book” at his obituary page. One example out of many, “John was so very nice. I met him when I started working downtown in Aug of ’08. He has been pleasant from day one. When he was not there, I looked for him to be. It is an honor to have known such a person who always gave you a smile as you entered and left his presence. I will never forget him and I know many others won’t either.”»

  7. That was so moving. The song is awesome! First time I heard it.

There were some great smiles in this. Beautiful! Watched it twice already. Who was the gal in the clown nose and funny hat? She cracked me UP. And hey, is that Evita in a house being built? Looks like her.

Fun! You guys did such a great job.

      Robin,
What a moving experience this was for me to watch too, as I had watched most of the videos individually as they came in, only had not seen the compilation until just a few days ago. Seeing all these individual smiles become ONE…wow! Really letting that sink in, where smiles from across this great world came together — such a wonderful experience!

Robin, you embraced this so enthusiastically from the first day, and that enthusiasm was such a boost to getting this started! More than that, though — that’s an enthusiasm I really believe you bring to ALL of LIFE. And what a beautiful gift that is — the way you connect to the moments of your days!

Know too, that what you have written here — I find that so deeply moving. Your soul shines through, just like in your smile, so full of life and love.

Robin, I love you and all the beauty you bring into this world. You, sweet friend, are such a dear friend. Big hugs of LOVE and GRATITUDE to you!

  12. At least two people change when a person smiles — the one who received the smile and the one who smiled. That is how we change the world, one person at a time. Changing the world doesn’t mean big things have to happen, small things create a ripple effect which can go around the world, one person at a time.

There is an insurance commercial on TV that I love which starts with one person doing an a good act and helping someone. Another person saw the act happening and goes out to do a good act of his own which someone else saw. It goes full circle back to the first person who saw someone else do a good act and did one of her own. I just love the interconnectedness of it and Life.

      Patricia,
That’s exactly it! It doesn’t have to be something gigantic we do to make such a positive difference in the world. A smile, a helping hand, a caring touch.…all of these can be such powerful ways to make a real difference. And sometimes, I think, these can do even more than something big and grand — as it touches another very personally…and in that, the beauty spreads!

Patricia, you bring a smile to my face…today…and always…

    Smiling is infectious
You catch it like the flu
When someone smiled at me today
    I started smiling too.

    I walked around the corner
    And someone saw me grin
And when I saw him smile
I knew I’d passed it on to him.

    I thought about that smile
    And realised its worth.
    A single smile like mine
    Could travel round the earth.
