“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” ~ Napoleon Hill

Think and Grow Rich

History has provided us with many great resources upon which we can use to improve ourselves and our lives.  One such resource is a book written by Napoleon Hill in 1937 – Think and Grow Rich.  This book is truly a classic, and one that shares principles that are easy to understand, yet too often overlooked.  Like the title, what we think about, along with actions put to our thoughts, will lead us to the many riches of life (whatever “rich” is for you) – monetary, physical well-being, mental well-being, and so on.

Think about this – in your life.  When have you been most successful?  Truly successful, on something that matters dearly to you.  It probably didn’t happen per chance – instead it involved something you cared deeply for (and had thought about) – combined with some sort of plan of action on your part.  You CAN have this in your life, today!  And the teachings of Napoleon Hill can help to catapult you into these successes that are waiting for you.

Journey to Success

Today, with my colleague, Jennifer Abbott, of Principles for Peace – we are rolling out a forum to discuss this book.  Have you thought about reading “Think and Grow Rich”?  Are you looking for something motivational to read as we start the new year?  Do you have a burning desire to take your life to greater levels of purpose?

Consider joining us over at Journey to Success, where we will have an open discussion on “Think and Grow Rich”, by Napoleon Hill.  There are no commitments, no costs, no advertisements.  This is solely a way to help you take your life to new and great heights!  This forum is for you, my friends.  This forum is for anyone desiring to live their life with intention!

May the new year take you in all the directions you desire!

Hey Lance, I looked at this book last week and considered buying it, but passed in favor of a Seth Godin book. Maybe I should make a trip back to the bookstore if you recommend it so highly, Lance.

On a side note, you’ve been tagged to play along at Blue Duck. 😀

Hi Lance (& Jennifer),
What a GREAT idea! This is such a wonderful book that I believe everyone could learn from. It was one of the first books I read when beginning to study the law of attraction and just how powerful the mind is! A true classic and I am sure with 2 brilliant writers (and people) running this forum it will be even more illuminating! I’m going there right now to check it out and will tell people about it. All the best!
Love, Jenny

Lance and Jennifer,
You know I’ve read this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It made so much sense to me and yet I’m still struggling to use the wisdom. I guess I need to read the book again.
I’ll be along to have a look at the forum shortly.
What a great way to start the year!
Dave 🙂

This book is the classic on using your subconscious to achieve success. If you read any books since this one you will see the tread of thought came from Mr. Hill. “The Secret” takes ideas from this book as well. Your subconscious has the power to change everything about your life- you just need to start utilizing that power and focus it in the direction of your heart. Your life will be amazing!

Fantastic idea! Have read this book, and oh yeah I do think it is one of the greatest books ever written. I keep going to it, now and again and must I say, that it does not matter whatever page I read, the book lifts me up. And it has been a great inspiration, a must read folks!

Jennifer January 2, 2009 at 4:19 pm

Dot, I hope you don’t mind me saying – I’m not a law of attraction person either. From what I understand the law of attraction is based a lot on theory. Think and Grow Rich will have some similarities, but Think and Grow Rich is based off of principles that the 500 most successful in America all practiced. It was written after a 20 year study of these successful men and what they all had in common and practiced. That’s why I chose to study this book – I’m all about principles. We’d love to have you if you change your mind. If not, we love you anyway!! (I just have to say, Dot, that I love your gravatar and your big smile. I want to smile every time I see it! Thank you for brightening my day!)

@Jennifer – It IS great Jennifer, thanks for making these forums all that they are! You’re the best!

@Rupal – Hi Rupal, looking forward to seeing you in the forums. Check out the book, or there’s also a link to a free downloadable version in the forum.

@Jamie Simmerman – Definitely check out “Think and Grow Rich”, Jamie. I think you’ll really like it! …and maybe I should make a trip and check out some of Seth Godin’s stuff. What book did you get?

@Jenny Mannion – Thank you, Jenny! The premise of this book really does deal with our minds, and how powerful it can be the making our dreams a reality. And, thank you, also, for your support in helping to spread the word, and for stopping in! It all means so much, Jenny. You are a wonderful friend! Your support means the world to me!

@Dave – Hey Dave, thanks for stopping in the forums and jumping right in! Looking forward to seeing you over there, and hearing your perspective on all of this!

@Miz – Hey, MizFit – that was me too! I’ve had this book forever…just sitting there. Jennifer really spurred me on to start reading – and the forums I really believe will help to not only continue this process, but also to solidify what I’m reading – and that’s where I see the real benefit in all of this. Stop on over whenever you get a chance!

@Jay – It really shows how powerful our mind can be, doesn’t it Jay! It’s great to have you here, and thank you for contributing over in the forums. The more people that get involved, the better the discussions will be – thank you, Jay!

@Davina – Thank you, Davina! Check us out, and feel free to jump in at any time. We also have a link over in the forum for a free downloadable version of the book – if you’re interested in seeing what it’s all about.

@Dot – Hope to see you in there, Dot. This isn’t really “law of attraction”, as Jennifer has also explained. I’m not overly familiar with the law of attraction, although I think some of the principles are similar. It may be worth stopping in and just seeing what kind of discussions are going on.

@VeRonda – Thanks for stopping over here today. VeRonda! And, I hope to see you in these forums too!

@Stacey/Create A Balance – Stacey, thanks for all your continued support in this project — it all means a lot to me! And yes, let’s all make 2009 a year to really put these time-tested principles to work!

@Sharon – Thank you, Sharon! And thank you for sharing your experiences in applying these principles – they really do work, don’t they! If you get a chance, stop in the forums – your knowledge and experience are most definitely welcome!

@Meleah – Happy New Year! We’d love to have you stop by these new forums Meleah…give it some thought…

@Betsy – A classic, indeed! Would love to have you join us if it works out at all for you!

@Fit Mommy – It really is a great book! Like I’ve mentioned a couple of times above, we do have a free downloadable version in the forum, if you want to check it out.

@Success Factors – It is a classic! And thanks for the comments about the “Journey to Success” forums! We are right now going with a grassroots promotion, although we’re open to other ideas as well…

Napoleon Hill encourages people to evolve into their dreams. This strategy has effectively inspired many people. At the same time, it can also be useful to believe you already are what desire to become. That can build your confidence without arrogance or conceit. You can learn to channel energy in directions that show you that you already have what you need to achieve. You are already there. Believe it. Visualize it. Be it.

Great idea and looking forward to check this out. Think and Grow Rich is an amazing book and I’ll definitely recommend it as well. It is excellent. Also, it is nothing like the new age recent law of atraction junk like the secret. That is just a terrible rip off of old useful principles like that in Think and Grow Rich, or another classic not as popular, “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wattles Wallace.

Hi lance

Wonderful. I read the book quite some time ago. Lots of the basic principles of the Law of Attraction – although not stated.

See ya

Lance January 3, 2009 at 7:30 am

@Natalia – Definitely, check it out Natalia. We’d love to have you join in the discussion!

@Sagan – That’s exactly it – our mindset, and how much of a role that plays in realizing our dreams and desires. If you get a few moments, check out the forums, I think you could add a lot to the discussion, Sagan!

@Jamie Simmerman – Hey, I’ve read the “Purple Cow” before. And, I’ve heard mention of “Tribes” a lot recently – maybe it’s worth checking out further.

@Liara – Great point, Liara – about believing/seeing yourself as what you desire. It all fits with the idea that our mind plays a huge role in us fulfilling our desires.

@Mike King – Hi Mike, awesome to see you’ve jumped right into the forum. I’m not familiar with “The Secret”, although I do know of several who do follow it’s practices. I wonder if there is some overlap between the two books? I guess I’m saying that I’m not ready to knock this book yet – and I may be reading here in the near future. Going in with an open mindset…

@Mindful Mimi – Great! Yes, it’s much easier to read an actual book, I agree. We’d love to have you, however much or little as you want to contribute, in the forums.

@Mike Foster – Very cool, your father and the role he played in your life! Would love to have your perspective on this, if you get a chance, stop in the forum and share some of your knowledge!

@Juliet – Please join us, Juliet, in the “Journey to Success” forums. It would be awesome to get your perspective.

I’ve read the book twice and hope to visit the book again every now and then. Its he principles are timeless. In troubled financial times like this, it’ll be a good idea to be reminded about what has been espoused by Napolean Hill.

I’ll be checking out Journey to Success in just a second. Congrats on a new launch!! Certainly a great way to start a New Year!

Lance, this was one of the earliest self improvement books that I had read along with How to Make Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. I must have been all of 20 or so and they both had a profound influence on my life. While I did not become rich, there were other things that I learned from both the books that have lasted a life time. It would indeed be nice to revisit them.

I am however more into spiritualism now and rarely if ever go to self improvement books unless they are very highly recommended.

@Tom – Napoleon Hill really produced some great material – thanks for pointing in the direction of one I’m not familiar with.

@Karl – It’s great to have you as part of the community over at “Journey to Success”. I think it can be a great resource, too, especially with lots of people committed to really making these principles come to life – and sharing their experiences.

@Evelyn – It would be great to have you join us, Evelyn, over at the forums – if it fits your schedule, please stop by! And yes, this is a very good time to be reminded of these principles. We are only limited by our mind!

@Rummuser – I really like to look at the term “rich” – not just in terms of monetary richness, but also however we might define rich in our life – meeting some goal, doing work that is meaningful, love, life in general, monetary – rich is really however we define it to be in our lives. Even though this book may not fit your plans right now, know that you are always welcome in the “Journey to Success”.

@LisaNewton – That’s awesome, Lisa! And that’s a good point for others, as well. If you’re on the fence about purchasing this book – and don’t want to use the downloadable version – the library is an excellent resource! And, thanks for stopping in and adding to the discussion over in the “Journey to Success” forums. And, there’s no way I can take full credit for all of this – Jennifer, from Principles for Peace, put a ton of time into making this a reality – it would be nowhere near what it is without all her effort.

Hi Lance,

awesome project. I love “Think and grow rich” and I have been writing personal lesson plans about every single chapter. Of course, it has to be read and discussed together with a mastermind group. I’m doing so for the third time and I slowly realize the meaning of Mr. Hill’s words “Thoughts are things.”

Thanks for sharing your insights.
