What Should You Give?

by John Spence on · 16 comments

  • A Damn: “Life is a daring adventure – or nothing at all” ~ Helen Keller
  • Help: to anyone you can offer it to.
  • LOVE: to yourself first… then to as many others as possible – you have an endless supply!
  • Respect: because EVERYONE is worthy of it.
  • Hugs: as long as HR does not have a rule against it – ugh!
  • Freely of your best ideas: the future will be unlocked through collaborative creativity.
  • Advice: when it is asked for… and then… carefully!
  • Advice: sometimes – only sometimes – when it is NOT asked for… and then even MORE carefully!!
  • Mentoring: help others to avoid some of the mistake you have made.
  • Generously: to a charity you are truly passionate about.
  • Time: to people who will not waste it.
  • Wisdom: to those who love you and will listen.
  • Yourself a break: you are not supposed to be perfect – let that go.
  • Praise and thanks: to everyone – often!!
  • 100% of your personal effort: life is not a dress rehearsal.
  • A smile: pass along some warmth and joy to others.
  • Understanding: remember that everyone you meet is fighting a mighty battle.
  •  Give, give, give and give some more. Embrace an abundance mentality by understanding deeply that if you just help enough other people get what they need – you will get everything you need.

I promise this works – I GIVE you my word!

Now… would you like to give me some additional things to add to my list?

Lance! I love you more than ever. What a heart-warming, beautiful list reflective of what’s going on in the blogging world of good things you have created here.

With this post you’ve given me inspiration for a lyric line I’ve been waiting for, a song called “Love Will Be The Answer.” Thank You!

Hey — wanna “hear” the chorus??

Love will be the answer
Love will be the dancer so light on its feet
Giving and sweet
Love will be the answer
Love will be the answer to everything.

Give what you do best!! Share your talent. Do not hide it under the proverbial bushes.

And what!!?? Someone has something against hugs?

And thank you for being YOU — as if you really have a choice but to be so awesome, eh?? 🙂

If you enjoyed the list above, I sure hope you will share it with lots of people – I think it is a message we all need to take to heart, especially right now. Thanks so much — John Spence

Thank you so much for sharing this list! It is SO true!!! And the most amazing thing about this list is that, while I don’t know you all that well, you walk it out! I have watched you time and again be an example of the very things on your list! Thank you for remind us all and for being an example for the rest of us! You are blessed with much wisdom and I am blessed to know you and Shelia!

Presence. Be present with the person or people you’re with. Pay attention to them, which means stop doing three other things when you’re with someone. Listen, learn from them, hear who they are and what they’re saying (and what they’re not saying out loud).

Thank you John!

What should you give?

Passion………conviction to truth and belief…agree to disagree…embrace our diversity….we all matter….

Appreciation…….. =:O)

I’d add some:

-Time. Indeed, you have to be present to win. Absenteeism doesn’t work in real life.
-Forgiveness. Looking back in the past to “right wrongs” doesn’t help your future. Always be moving forward.
-Communication. Steven Covey was right – First Seek to Understand…

Thanks John – great post.

Chance: Keep your mind open and be ready to try new things. Take the opportunities and remember that you will only fail if you are not doing anything.
I’m glad I gave this post a chance. Every now and then it’s a good thing to stop our busy lives and take a minute to think about deeper things that matter in life.

My giving motto is “give everyday” Find one thing you can do every day to give back to the planet, people or animals. You won’t believe how you will view the world differently. Thanks for sharing this list John!

A prayer. It does not matter if you are religious or not. A sincere prayer of love and care can bring wonders to anyone, even a stranger. Yesterday, I walked past a construction worker who was working and drenched in the rain so I said a prayer for her to be safe and healthy. Then, I said another prayer for a dear friend to be productive and cheerful.

Once you get into it, you will be amazed by just how many prayers you can give in one minute. So send your love prayers out to people you think of (even if they might have done you wrong in the past or present), to the environment and to animals as well.

Finally, give to yourself by saying a positive prayer for your day and well-being.

Great list.. I love all the other things people added!

I would just add a smile to all out there because even though they may be frowning, that one smile may make their day!

A kind word to a stranger for the same reason above!

Hi John and Lance,
Nice list. Time I like that. Sometimes that is the greatest gift we can give to others.
I would like to mention that we do need to know how to receive. Give to others whether it is just a smile, but don’t forget to recieve from others when they offer that smile before you do. It can mean the world to them.

thanks again and blessing to you,

This list is surely a wonderful reminder of ways to give…
And the comments above hold many great ways also.
The best thing is that they do not cost a cent.
I believe we are all capable of giving to another, we meet along the way.
I have learned that in giving… we receive a great blessing in return.
Warming the heart of another by offering a small gesture of kindness,
brings {HOPE & LOVE} to all!
I am sharing your list today! Thanks!

Give Forgiveness with compassion and understanding. One can never fully understand another’s mindset, intention or path. Allow for missteps, misunderstanding and miscommunication with openness and grace.
